Please be aware of this scandal (yes, it's reddit, I know): http://www.reddit.com/r/tf2trade/comments/yk9ji/psa_i_believe_the_tf2_pricing_spreadsheet_at Also, why should Valve dictate prices when they have more important things to do?
Didn't valve hire an economist?
They did, but he said he was only going to observe. Quite unlikely that he'd do experiments himself after he said that.
Please no.
While valve having some say in the market would be okay, it won't happen. From what I'm aware, most community involvement strictly involve contributions like maps and items. I could be wrong. However outside of rarer hard to get items and promo only stuf, we have a way to by pass things like spreadsheets and crazy traders. Buy from the mann.co store. It supports the game, it supports the person who made it, and you walk off with a hat with out a migraine. EVERYONE WINS!

Since Valve is busy at the moment they got the economist to work in the marketing department. Did you watch the interview of Gabe talking about and how they set up the prices of the items and even the games?
Didn't valve hire an economist?
Any idiot could set arbitrary prices, their economist has more important things to do.

Valve lowered the price of tags which in turn has made them a bit cheaper to trade for, and now, they're reasonably enough priced that I don't even buy from traders if I don't have to. Maybe they're doing a little influencing after all.
