This is the way it is with the Zone: if you come back with swag - it's a miracle; if you come back alive - it's a success; if the patrol bullets miss you - it's a stroke of luck. And as for anything else - that's fate.

Welcome to the Zone.
The S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series is made up of a total of three games thus far: Shadow of Chernobyl, Clear Sky, and Call of Pripyat. Another unofficial branch of the series known as Lost Alpha has also been released.
Each game has its own set of unique experiences, stories, and features that give a new twist upon the life of a Stalker. The game series is based off of the Chernobyl nuclear catastrophe, with it's own fictional additions. The Zone is an irradiated man-made Hell that was formed after a second explosion at the nuclear powerplant. It is filled with mysterious phenomena known as anomalies, and it is also home to grotesque mutated wildlife. There are many dangers that may await you at every corner, but there are also many treasures to be found as well. Keep your eyes open, your bolts at hand, and with a level head you may just survive.

The S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series is renowned for having an ambitious and active modding community. There is a plethora of modifications to choose from ranging from small tweaks to entire full-blown overhauls that boast new storylines and other amazing features. After playing each of the three games at least once you should try out a mod (or ten) in order to spice up the games even further. The dynamic nature of the games along with the consistent mod releases creates an almost never-ending source of entertainment. A few members of our community have taken the time to organize the sheer volume of mods into convenient repositories. Others have also written up guides for beginners to take a look at so that they can learn how to install and manage their mods without having to learn the hard way.
To find mods there are a few helpful websites than can steer you in the right direction. Keep in mind that aside from ModDB most repositories and shared MEGA folders tend to have links to outdated mods. The sure-fire way to know you're getting the most up to date version is to visit the source page of the mod you're keen on trying. Most have their stuff on ModDB with a few being a little more obscure and only accessible via forums and direct links.
The Facepunch Mod Repository is mostly outdated but some stuff is still relevant. I have placed all of Loner's links inside the repository for easy access. His detailed list is essential to browse through as it contains many more links to useful information and mod repositories. Check them out!
A spreadsheet listing mods for all the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games (including CoC) has been made by our very own tallquasi.

As of right now the current released overhaul mod that everyone is talking about is Call of Chernobyl. It's more of a game than it is a mod though!

Q: What order should I play these games in?
A: I'd recommend playing them in the order they were released,
Shadow of Chernobyl, Clear Sky, and Call of Pripyat.
Doing it any other way may ruin certain game experiences or spoil the story!
Q: i hear these games have some bizarre difficulty system, how does it work?
A: check out this handy chart: http://puu.sh/xQyph/9d167012de.png
Q: I just bought these games is there anything I should install right off the bat?
A: For Shadow of Chernobyl you could install the Facepunch Starter Pack if you feel like you need to, and for Clear Sky install The Sky Reclamation Project.
These are community bug fixes that will make your experience with the games more pleasant.
Call of Pripyat on the other hand is the most stable build of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. so far and only requires to be on the latest patch.
Other than this don't install anything else, playing mods on your first playthrough is not encouraged. PLEASE don't use STALKER Complete.
Use ZRP if you really want to have a bug-free experience.
Q: How do I install these mods?
A: First get to the directory for the game you want to install the stuff in -
Steam: "C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common" - In the common folder the games will be in their own folders.
Shadow of Chernobyl: "C:\Program Files\THQ\S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Shadow of Chernobyl"
Clear Sky: "C:\Program Files\Deep Silver\S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Clear Sky"
Call of Pripyat: "C:\Program Files\bitComposer Games\S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Call of Pripyat"
If you're running a 64-bit OS then go to the (x86) portion of your program files.
Depending on what you're installing it's most likely going be a folder named "gamedata", just toss that into the main directory.
Also go into the "fsgame.ltx" file and open it in notepad, then go the the line game_data and make it look like this: $game_data$ = true|true|$fs_root$|gamedata\
Q: How do I reduce/get rid of this annoying headbob?!
A: Open the console with tilde - type 'cam_inert x' where:
x = 0.00 to 1.00
0.00 = no headbob at all
Tilde is the ~ key if you didn't know.
Q: How do I change FOV in this game? I'm about to puke!
A: Use this tool by our very own TKGP. Works with all of the games, but mod compatability may vary, check the readme for more info.

That shiny new thread smell ooooo
Ah my post was the last one in the other thread and it locked. I thought I scared everyone else off. :v:
Wasn't CS the one that also had the invulnerability frames when guys got shot, too? Maybe they thought SoC was too easy.
I think alundaio actually said that was a glitch in the engine where damage dealt under 30 would actually heal NPCs which tended to cause the effect.
speaking of the new thread, here's some semi new things

the new things work pretty good in vanilla(with the variation mod, arsenal overhaul and atmosfear)
woo

once i get all the sunrise loner variations done up, i will release another test build, should be sometime during this week
Oh man finally a new thread. The old one was getting a little too stuffy.
Wrath it looks like you're gonna do the OP yourself, but if you want I can also lend a hand if you need it.
In other news looks like I'm back to playing STALKER again. I've been waiting for the new Warfare update to be released for CoC and it looks like that has finally happened. I'm gonna pair it with AO3 and that suit addon to make a pretty solid build ripe for conquest.
Also Ninja those models look as awesome as ever, you're breathing new life into this game with those new models.
Fucks sake.
Friend picked up all 3 games and asked me in what order should he play and with any mods.
Of course, me being the fan I am tell him to play SHoC with ZRP the first time through.
Turns out he ignored me, tried Complete, didn't like it (derp) and then installed Oblivion Lost 3.1 and came to me bitching the game's AI is annihilating him with grenades.
HMMMM.
I mean if you don't like vanilla whatever but don't just ignore what I say and try something else entirely and expect me to help you out :v:

I was mostly going to just copy the old one but if you've got some new stuff I'd put it in

This is some sick fuckin shit m8, you are making STALKER look like STALKER 2
I hope it works okay with Call of Misery and that doesn't change armors too much, I'm getting that stalker itch again and I wanna try something different from my usual entree

Tell him he failed the Slav Spirit Test and can no longer enjoy Stalker games anymore.

i did this commission for the stalker fan fiction “Expedition” by a fellow facepuncher today, so i figured i'd post it here!
That looks great! You captured the atmosphere really well too man.

I've been on the edge of making a new and simplified version of the old OP. I'll hit ya with a PM once I get it ready and then you can decide if it'll be alright. Or Loner may chime in as well since he's leagues ahead of me in the graphical department. I designed the OP's from the older threads back in the day.
I'm here to cheeki breeki and also iv damke

It should work, I've been using it with no problems so far. I think it modifies the outfit.ltx or whatever for each outfit though, so not sure how that will impact the Misery suits. No crashes at least.
I was playing some Call of Chernobyl earlier today with Azazel mode and didn't realize that playing as Monolith doesn't make you immune to the Brain Scorcher. Cue me spawning into a Monolith in Radar, immediately dying due to psi damage, and swapping into another guy in the squad until I indirectly killed the whole squad.
Granted I was playing the DoctorX storyline mod but I figured at least I would be immune to environmental psi damage as Monolith. :mindblown:
I think alundaio actually said that was a glitch in the engine where damage dealt under 30 would actually heal NPCs which tended to cause the effect.
That bug I was talking about is where stalkers get up from being wounded when you stab them or shoot them with a weak pistol. Stalkers are completely immune to anything that does less then 15% damage and is not a head shot once they reach 15% health. I never really looked into why stalkers are immune to damage during the critical hit animations.
Dat new thread smell
Great new models Ninja, as always - keep it up bud!

Cool. The Radiophobia guy is porting your stuff into SoC right now: http://www.moddb.com/mods/radiophobia/images/new-rookie-and-bandit-models3#imagebox
Also, STCoP for CoM English translation released: http://www.moddb.com/mods/stalker-com

Ah, my bad for the misunderstanding.
Still, interesting.

Neat!
Been trying out Call of Misery. It's actually pretty fun, the balance feels a bit better than the base mod, especially since you have more maps to go through. It's pretty hard, but it's nice to have something challenging again.
Does it still have wall hack AI that can shoot through solid concrete walls and Bandits in trench costs that can survive a mosin nagant round to the face from 100 meters away like the original Misery had?
Probably the best part of stcop + redistribution IMO is the economy rebalance. It makes it feel as if you are actually gradually being able to afford better equipment rather than doing a run through army warehouses + red forest and having enough money to buy the gun and ammo you'll use for the rest of the game.
[editline]22nd February 2017[/editline]
as opposed to ao3
I notice that there is currently and previously has been a distinct lack of links to STALKER drinking games in the OP. I think that should be rectified considering STALKER drinking games are the main reason I play the game at the moment.

The contract is sealed. The deed, done.

Not so far. I'm running STCOP with it now, but I was dropping guys with a 5.62 round or two. My Fort12 felt kind of weak, but all those early 9mm pistols suck anyway.
I'm still trying to figure out what else I can add in that's compatible. There's a bunch of addons for CoM, but most are still in Russian.
What is the most up to date version of NinjaNub's model pack for CoC?
