• Vulture Makes a List of their Hardest Bosses in Video Games
Last week, Destiny 2, a highly anticipated online shooter that’s best played with friends, raised the curtain on a mystery it had been teasing for weeks leading up to the game’s early September release: the Leviathan. That’s the name of the game’s marquee Raid, a massive, sprawling level that explains almost nothing about how to beat it, and requires teamwork among six players to solve its riddles and take down whatever boss lies at the end. It’s both Destiny 2’s biggest challenge and mystery, and for the past week the game’s community of players has been racing to square off with Leviathan’s mysterious boss, six people at a time. Until somewhat recently, it seemed as if the concept of the video-game boss was on its last legs. Bosses were effectively bottlenecks at a time where games were expanding. Open-world and online games flourished, player choice became paramount, and boss fights in games that felt otherwise wide open — like the notoriously underwhelming boss confrontations in otherwise acclaimed games such as Bioshock or Deus Ex: Human Revolution — ended up feeling like dead weight. That goes most for these 100 bosses, who have been providing gamers with shared war stories for more than 30 years. Assembled by a committee of gaming journalists with various tastes, our rank factored in each enemy’s overall difficulty, the novelty of their fight mechanics, and their influence on subsequent games. Most important, however, was how vividly they lingered in our minds. A good boss encounter elevates the game it’s in. It’s not something you easily forget.
Vulture, archived And so you don't have to waste your time, here's the full list
... Skolas isn't even the hardest boss in Destiny. Also Fume Knight over Sir Alonne? What?
Senator Armstrong is hard? It's all about telegraphed timing, how is that hard?!
Who the fuck put Senator Armstrong at 99? That automatically makes this list useless.
A lot of the From Soft boss placements are a bit weird. Even weirder the fact there's no Lud & Zallen. :v: Fuck that
OH wait the list is upside down... wait... ALMA IS HARD? ITS LITERALY A MATTER OF POINTING AND SHOOTING AS MUCH AS YOU CAN
The responses to threads like this are always like "wow, how could they forget the final boss from the 1994 japanese-only SNES RPG 'Keisatsu Dare Gakusei'???"
C'Thun was only the 'hardest' boss in WoW initially because of poor tuning. Didn't take too long for guilds to take him out after the first wave of changes. Should probably be Yogg 0, Firestarter, or Heroic Lich King. Also, Flamelurker? Really?
Seriously though why is a Destiny boss at the top spot? Pretty sure Borderlands had tougher bullet sponges.
OH wait the list is upside down... wait... ALMA IS HARD? ITS LITERALY A MATTER OF POINTING AND SHOOTING AS MUCH AS YOU CAN
Alma from Ninja Gaiden, not FEAR
"Flamelurker" Reading that name still gives me chills.
No Bed of Chaos? Though, the boss isn't all that conventional the way you fight her, but I still think she is the biggest pain in the ass of all of the soul games. Easily the least fun to fight imo.
Seriously though why is a Destiny boss at the top spot? Pretty sure Borderlands had tougher bullet sponges.
Because its new. Gotta get those pageviews.
sephiroth from KH2 at number 8? wasn't he a lot harder in KH1?
Seriously though why is a Destiny boss at the top spot? Pretty sure Borderlands had tougher bullet sponges.
Probably because Destiny is a big topic right now with it's recent release and will get a lot of views because of it.

The Xenomorph from Alien: Isolation? What? Also, Lady Comstock really isn't that hard, especially if you know what you're doing. She only gives new players a lot of grief imo. [editline]27th September 2017[/editline] Kai Leng doesn't even fucking deserve to be on the list
A lot of the From Soft boss placements are a bit weird. I had way more trouble with Friede/Gael/Midir than I did something like Fume Knight. [editline]26th September 2017[/editline] Why the fuck is Ender Dragon on there :v:
A lot of these bosses are only hard when you don't understand how to fight them, or they're tedious rather than difficult. Then there's shit like the Alien from Alien Isolations, which isn't a boss, or Skolas who isn't the hardest boss in a game where the bosses are just regular enemies with 30 times the health.

Borderlands bosses may fit the bolded criteria well, but I wouldn't say any of the others apply at all. [editline]e[/editline] Wow they still listed Terramorphous the Invincible at number 28? That was so boring, it was the sort of fight that's only difficult because it's basically a bullet sponge that can one-hit kill you, no interesting mechanics, no cool environment or music or anything, just you and a big giant worm that you shoot until it dies.
How on gods' green earth could they forget Pinwheel? He's the hardest boss in Dark Souls by far, he makes Nameless look like a little bitch in comparison!
Alma from Ninja Gaiden, not FEAR
OH nevermind my post then.
I like how number 65 doesn't specify which Hitler, are we talking Wolfenstein 3D, Persona 2, Sniper Elite, what?

There's many kinds of difficult. For example, they listed C'thun, who wasn't especially hard mechanics-wise when we're talking world of warcraft, and was more literally mathematically impossible unless you either A. Glitched the fight or B. waited for blizzard to nerf it. I don't think that really deserves to be counted.

[editline]26th September 2017[/editline] Why the fuck is Ender Dragon on there :v:
If you're going to go with hard Souls bosses I think most of the Demon's Souls bosses are excluded outright. Flamelurker hits hard and he's kind of fast but he's also pretty weak health wise. Similarly while Fume Knight is a really cool boss he isn't hard, it's only the arena's gimmick that creates any challenge. Shadows of Yharnham too are a pretty easy boss if you're able to keep track of multiple enemies, since they rarely attack simultaneously. For Souls bosses alone you're better off looking at Sir Alonne, Lady Maria, Gael, and Orphan (who is on the list).
How the fuck is Fume Knight above Manus? This list is rubbish.
What is Dark Link doing on there, he's not even the hardest boss in that piss-easy game. [editline]26th September 2017[/editline]
How the fuck is Fume Knight above Manus? This list is rubbish.
I beat Manus on my fourth try, and Fume Knight took me like 30 tries.
I like how number 65 doesn't specify which Hitler, are we talking Wolfenstein 3D, Persona 2, Sniper Elite, what?
In the article it clarifies this, as the paste-bin link is a bit more straight forward but not entirely clear.
In the third and final chapter of Wolfenstein 3D, you are out to kill Hitler himself. Unfortunately, Hitler has acquired a mecha-armor suit wit-
Excuse me Cyberdemon? He wasn't that hard at all, at least on Ultraviolence. I mean I died a few times but who doesn't? [editline]26th September 2017[/editline] On the bright side, they aren't lying about Reaper or Orphan of Kos.
O&S is up at 22? Wtf, even the fucking gargoyles were harder than that [editline]26th September 2017[/editline] Fucking Psycho Mantis is a hard boss? It's only [sp] shooting up some statues for fuck sake [/sp]
