The actor was asked by Australian morning TV show sunrise if there was any truth to the rumours about a sequel to the 1986 military action film. "It's true, it's true," he replied. "I'm going to start filming it probably in the next year. It's happening." The original film launched Cruise's career and took more than $350m (£270m) globally at the box office. The actor played the cocky pilot Maverick in the movie, one of the top students at a US training camp for elite military fighter pilots. The film also starred Val Kilmer, Tim Robbins, Meg Ryan, Tom Skerrit and Kelly McGillis.
you know im not a huge fan of red letter or constant cynicism about media but ENDLESS TRASH!
They better not use fucking CGI, the only reason to watch the first one is all the beauty shots of the F-14.
I wonder if the USAF learned their lesson on free advertising yet, the Navy got a huge boost in recruits thanks to Top Gun. They're calling it Top Gun 2 and a sequel, so we're not dealing with a reboot at least. But after all this time, who knows if this will even hold a candle to the original.
If it's gonna be another cheesy flick with terrible romance and boringly predictable plot but with some of the coolest action scenes to ever grace motion pictures, I'm happy. Not holding my breath though.
I can't wait to see evil faceless Russian pilots blown up again.
Speaking of Tom Cruise, since he's doing the Mummy, if Tom Cruise is gonna do Brendan Fraser movies, the he's gotta do ALL the Brendan Fraser movies. I want George of the Jungle starring Tom Cruise, and a remake of Encino Man starring Tom Cruise.
They better not use fucking CGI, the only reason to watch the first one is all the beauty shots of the F-14.
They should let Tom Cruise fly an F-14 since he's a pilot and the US military isn't using them anymore.
Highway to the scientology zone
They should let Tom Cruise fly an F-14 since he's a pilot and the US military isn't using them anymore.
I don't think there are any flying F-14s left in the United States other than preserved examples at Pensacola which will never be flown again. Since WW2, the US government has heavily frowned on the notion of selling off military aircraft, even refusing to sell fully demilitarized, unflyable frames. I hope when (if) Iran retires their 40ish F-14s, they sell them instead of breaking them up.
I somehow doubt they'll be using real flying fighter jets. It's so much easier and less expensive to fake it.

Can't wait to see all the gay sex scenes
Stop the endless trash, for the love of god

I have faith that Kosinski can do well, though. He does have a strong preference for practical sets, as seen in this behind-the-scenes of Oblivion:
I like Top Gun but I don't like Tom Cruise anymore after hearing about all that scientology shit.
Top Gun is perhaps my favorite movie of all time, but mostly because of how much of a time capsule it is. Only way I think you could pull it off today is to truly have a genuine love for campy cliche's.
IIRC the featured plane in the sequel is going to be the F-35.
IIRC the featured plane in the sequel is going to be the F-35.
I wonder if they can get Lockeed Martin to foot part of the bill for the movie. Appearing in a movie may soften public opinion of the project.
They better not use fucking CGI, the only reason to watch the first one is all the beauty shots of the F-14.
CG is really good for things like airplanes and helicopters. I'll be fine if they use it but the original really is F-14 porn. I hope it's just as gay and memorable as the original. I really liked that Top Gun wasn't military propaganda like Battle LA is. It was pretty tame and about Maverick's maturing as a man like the Starship Troopers book instead of being about conquering the enemy like Starship Troopers the movie(still love it though)
If he's gonna be maverick again wouldn't he realistically be too old and out of shape to fly a jet now? By military standards anyway
The film will be about some new age of warfare featuring Cruise as a grizzled instructor nostalgic over his youth- All the young obnoxious undisciplined (aside from goody two shoes main character) pilots are accustomed to modern advancements in avionics and weaponry whilst Tom Cruise attempts to teach them about the fundamentals of more traditional dogfighting from the good old days. Tom Cruise only agreed to this so long as actual jets are used, IIRC
The F-35 doesn't have a gun, does it? How will you have a dogfighting movie without guns?
The F-35 doesn't have a gun, does it? How will you have a dogfighting movie without guns?
r u trying to say that the United States is spending millions of dollars on a plane that doesn't have a gun what kind of bizzaro alt-US do you live in boy
r u trying to say that the United States is spending millions of dollars on a plane that doesn't have a gun what kind of bizzaro alt-US do you live in boy
It originally didn't have a gun. They were planning to make it up with a gun pod but apparently the F35A has an internal 25mm gun. I also might be confusing it with the F-4. Someone else will have a better response, I haven't been into jets for like 7 years

[editline]25th May 2017[/editline] feat. I would be totally down for this.
If he's gonna be maverick again wouldn't he realistically be too old and out of shape to fly a jet now? Lockheeds top test pilot that flew the F-22 and X-35 was a pretty old dude also I think
