• Refugee rescue boat sent to help far-right anti-immigrant ship stranded in Mediterranean
Volunteers on a German refugee rescue ship say they have been deployed to help a far-right vessel that has become stranded in the Central Mediterranean. Sea-Eye said Italian officials had told their crew that the C-Star, operated by an anti-immigration group calling itself Defend Europe, had suffered a mechanical failure and could not manoeuvre. A spokesperson for the group, which is among those Defend Europe has accused of “colluding” with Libyan people smugglers, said it was on its way to offer aid. Michael Buschheuer, the chairman of Sea-Eye, said: “To help a ship in distress in the duty of anyone at sea, without regard for their origin, race, religion or beliefs.” Defend Europe confirmed its ship was suffering a “minor technical problem” that was being resolved. “C-Star developed a minor technical problem during the night,” a spokesperson said, saying that its engine was stopped so it could be fixed. “This means that under [maritime laws to prevent collisions] the vessel is considered ‘not under command’ and information was sent out to vessels nearby in accordance with regulations. “This problem is about to be resolved.” The group, an offshoot of the white nationalist Identitarian movement, crowdfunded its ship with claims it would target “criminal NGOs…that are nothing less than part of the international human trafficking ring”. Defend Europe claims the rescuing of refugees from the Mediterranean Sea, where more than 2,400 men, women and children have drowned so far this year, is part of an “invasion” endangering the continent. [...] Robert Timm, a German member of the group, told The Independent the C-Star would “not interfere” with humanitarian operations. “If we are called, we will help,” he added. “But we would make sure that they [the migrants] don’t get to Europe.” Mr Timm claimed the C-Star would take asylum seekers to the “closest safe African harbour” instead of Italy and named Tunis as a possibility, although Tunisian authorities are not believed to have agreed to the plan.
Source: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/refugee-rescue-boat-anti-immigrant-c-star-ship-mediterranean-defend-europe-mechanical-failure-far-a7887876.html Facebook statement from the refugee rescue charity, Sea-Eye (in German): https://www.facebook.com/seaeyeorg/posts/1177087879063774
That's some crushing irony.
This same ship actually smuggled refugees into turkey too by accident(?), what a bunch of retards. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/jul/27/anti-migrant-boat-crew-arrested-famagusta-cyprus-people-smuggling
At least 20 Sri Lankan refugees were aboard the C-star as the vessel approached Famagusta, Pasa told the Guardian. The Sri Lankans disembarked told authorities they had been trainees aboard the ship and were allowed to continue on their journey, but then changed their story at the airport where Pasa and other activists met them. “Some said they had paid €10,000 to smuggling rings to get on the ship and be taken to Italy,” she said. “Five have since requested asylum. The other 15 have now flown back to Sri Lanka.”
wait, isn't this Lauren Southern's boat? :v:
What kind of name is C-Star anyways? That sounds like the name for a cruiseliner not a racism mobile. I would have imagined it would have been named something that had some sort of political or racial undertone.
I don't care wether the C-Star is manned by racists or not. NGOs waiting 12 miles of the coast for smuggler boats to arrive and then bringing them to mainland europe is little better than smuggling. They are making the smugglers jobs easier, directly working against the libyan coast guard and encouraging more people to cross the mediterranean sea.
