A 22-year-old man died on Monday after he was allegedly shot by his girlfriend as part of a stunt to gain notoriety on the video-sharing platform YouTube, KSFY reports.
According to KSFY, the incident took place outside a home in Halstad, Minnesota.
After the Norman County Sheriff's Office got a report of a person who had been shot around, Pedro Ruiz was transported to a hospital where he later died. Monalisa Perez, 20, was arrested and charged with reckless discharge of a firearm.
"He had told me about an idea. I said, 'Don't do it, don't do it,'" Ruiz's aunt Claudia Ruiz told KSFY. "'Why are you going to use a gun? Why?' 'Because, we want more viewers.'"
Ruiz's aunt added that he gave a 50-caliber handgun to his girlfriend to shoot at a book, thinking the book would stop the bullet.
"I don't know why they thought the book was supposed to stop the bullet," said Ruiz.
Perez is said to be seven-months pregnant with the couple's second child.

he would have wanted her to upload the video if he was this stupid

:what:
Congratulations, your stunt made headlines.
I can't even feel bad for these two. There is so much stupid in this article that I can't believe they survived on this Earth for this long.
What made them think a 50 cal bullet wouldn't penetrate a book. Like, why do we even bother with body armour when we got Bibles?
I feel sorry for the children who won't have a father because of his stupidity.
Ignoring for a second how dumb this is... Why didn't he just shoot a book first to see if it worked?

Would you rather he taught them how to be idiots?
And to clarify, if it wasn't him, it would have been their children later on down the line. Now at least the mother won't be making any mistakes like this again.

Maybe it's safer for them that he won't be around.

C'mon man, you should know this isn't appropriate. Like, what the fuck dude.

I'm just being realistic here.

Even a little bit of education would have stopped this moronic stunt
Did it ever occur to them that it's possible to see if a book can stop a bullet, without putting themselves in the line of fire? And honestly they're both equally clueless (and as a result, dangerous), both him for being in the line of fire, and her for firing the gun anyway.
See, this is why I think that, while the 2nd Amendment is important for various reasons, that not every Tom, Dick, and Harry has business owning a fire-arm. There are people that I wouldn't trust with hedge-clippers, let alone firearms.
You want to own a gun? Cool, fine, awesome. Just be fucking responsible about it. Don't holster it in your pants, don't leave it somewhere that children can have easy access (or access period), and don't fucking discharge it at anything you don't intend to destroy.

What is this even supposed to mean?
Not just any gun but a fucking 50 cal?
Isn't that pistol caliber made to disable small vehicles?

no actually iirc .50AE was an experiment. it doesnt have tremendous penetrative power (that's .50BMG you're thinking of) but it's still a magnum cartridge that will fcuk YOU UP

Anything at that range, even a .22, is bad news

.22 is a super scary caliber to me because the wounds it creates will kill your ass despite what people think

Guess which one's fired out a pistol

Darwin award exists for a reason.
The Muzzle velocity of a desert eagle .50 caliber pistol is around 470 m/s, this means it was travelling at roughly 1051 mp/h or 1692 km/h to the Americans out there. That assuming that a special round wasn't used since he was obviously inept, which is likely (however if he was using something like a .50 Action Express, that would be a staggering impact of ~2.5 pounds of force on impact).
So let's assume he had some old Smith & Wesson Model 500, handed down maybe. That would be about ~2.76 lb/s impact force.
Now this would be fine if the bullet stopped there, but they don't unfortunately since bullets are moving fast enough that other forces come into play.. An instant impact of just over 2lb of force is enough to knock you back, but that bullet keeps going until the the force behind has stopped via friction or until is passes through the body.
So when a projectile pushes its way through the target, it must move the target material out of its way. This imparts the kinetic force [sp]mentioned before[/sp] to the target material, which was a bloody book, that must come from the bullet, and the faster the bullet is going, the faster the target material must end up travelling in order to get out of the way in time and the move energy is used.
Therefore with high enough speeds, these dynamic forces needed to push the target material out of the projectile path far exceed the material strength of the target and the physics of the problem becomes one of hydrodynamics - at these speeds, the target can be considered a fluid without any material strength.
A .50BMG can penetrate 14mm of Hardened Steel. Assuming the book is an "average sized one" it would be 8.3 centimeters of soft, paper material to pass through. Therefore he may as well have had a plastic bag of water on his chest, probably would have worked better for him as well!
tl;dr. He may as well have had a bag of water to protect him.

He doesn't qualify since he has already made two kids before death. His genes live on.

Guessing you're accidently bringing up the giant rifle round, cause they were shooting pistol rounds.
And the bag of water might have worked better :v:

Because that would've made sense.

No that was intentional, just showing how fucked the guy was. I know the difference
Had they been in New Hampshire what she did would have been totally legal for a short amount of time.
The shit that people would do to become internet sensations these days :why:
She took the wrong turn to YouTube and ended up at LiveLeak.
