After canceling a third installment in the sci-fi franchise in 2015, Disney is exploring the idea of a movie that would act as a Leto vehicle.
Disney is planning to get back on the grid.
The studio is in the very early stages of development for a new Tron movie, with Oscar-winning actor Jared Leto circling to star, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.
No writer has been hired at this exploratory stage, and no filmmaker is involved. Justin Springer, who co-produced Tron: Legacy and executive produced the Tom Cruise sci-fi movie Oblivion, will produce. Leto and his producing partner, Emma Ludbrook, would also be involved in some producing capacity if the project moves forward.

Sources say this new project is not a direct sequel and is being built out of the source code of the deleted Tron 3 script. Leto would play a character named Ares, who has not appeared onscreen before, but was a key player in that script.
I wonder if they could successfully pull off a soft reboot of Tron.
gotta have bruce boxleitner
I actually liked Tron: Legacy so I hope this is connected in someway
I'd rather see a continuation of what TRON: Legacy left off with instead of a reboot, but I'll take what I can get. Hope they keep the art direction and music if this gets the green light.

I liked it too, but I feel like in a bizarre way, Daft Punk doing the music sort of overshadowed the movie as well (amongst some other nitpicks I had with the movie).
It'd be nice if this time around, they had a decent soundtrack with a group of great artists than just one so it could avoid the tag of being one very long Daft Punk music video.
Reboots, reboots, reboots. Just make an original bloody movie.
i just want tron:uprising to come back, that show was my shit
I don't like any of Leto's movies he seems like a weak actor to me.
Anyone have any recommendations?

ENDLESS TRASH
I loved legacy so after Tron 3 getting canceled i'll take anything that resembles a sequel.

Legacy was a very impressive Daft Punk music video, but as an actual sequel to Tron it was very meh.
The original Tron was all about imagining what it would be like being inside a computer and interacting with software and games back when most people didn't know a lot about how computers actually worked, and when games were so basic visually you had to imagine what they were actually representing. Tron was so great because it brought all that stuff to life: computer programs, computer networks, games like Pong and Battlezone. Back then it really was mind blowing.
Now, when not only do most people know much more about computers and technology, but there's much more actual computers and technology to explore, the Tron metaphor was begging to be expanded into the modern world of internet and gaming and whatnot.
But instead they went the opposite direction and completely disassociated the Tron world from actual "real world" computers, making it about some unspecified parallel dimension things with hot chicks and glowy stuff. Which looks and sounds nice, sure, but that's not what Tron was about. It was about goddamn programs!
You know what the movie needs to be like? Tron 2.0. Where you can see the inside of servers and computers and mobiles, upgrade your utilities, interact with firewalls, travel around in a packet and fight viruses. How awesome is that?
This awesome:

Requiem for a dream (typical reco), Lord of War, Chapter 27 (crap movie, great acting). I heard Mr. Nobody is neat
And definetly Dallas Buyers Club, his best work.
I heard Mr. Nobody is neat
yeah it's pretty good
i cant wait for him to debut his tron voice
gotta have bruce boxleitner
Highly unlikely. Which sucks because Bruce has been the most staunchest of Tron fans, voicing and acting as Tron and Alan in every appearance they've made, from 2.0 to Evolution to Uprising. I love the Tron franchise, but it just won't be Tron without him.
Didn't James Gunn get a Legacy styled light cycle delivered to his office just recently?
Tron Legacy was a very mediocre movie with a neat soundtrack. I hope they focus more on making a good movie than an extended music video

That'd be a pretty cool plot point I think. Having the ability to move between devices (From a PC to a mobile for example), but the "scenery" changes a bit as a result. For example, a PC is more powerful than a mobile so could have bigger, better "cityscapes" etc, but a mobile would have smaller clusters dotted around the place to represent smaller processing power etc.
Doubt it'll happen though. Almost all the reboots lately use the husk of their original IP and bastardise it so only the name and vague nods to the original IP remain (ala Robocop, Total Recall etc).
The aesthetic of Tron Legacy was awesome, all the cool neon lights and shit, I loved that. I hope they do the same and utilize all the amazing things you can do with modern film making

Yeah can't wait to see him help ruin another series
Tron Legacy was rad as hell, it had Jeff Bridges, Daft Punk, and cool ass effects. I wont accept this reboot.

yeah and the dude who played anakin is the reason revenge of the sith sucked
I liked the visuals of Legacy and the first part of the movie up until after the bike arena, the rest was very meh. I was expecting it to focus more on Sam being forced to fight gladiator battles while trying to find answers about his dad, eventually having to challenge CLU for his freedom. Instead we got two cool arena scenes followed by a whole lot of not much. I hope a reboot will focus more on the arena stuff.
