THQ Nordic has entered into an agreement to acquire Koch Media GmbH, including, inter alia, the games developer and publisher Deep Silver with AAA-intellectual property rights such as Saints Row, Dead Island and exclusive licence for Metro.

THQ Nordic AB (”THQ Nordic” or the “Company”) has, through its wholly owned subsidiary, SALEM einhundertste Holding GmbH, today entered into an agreement with the owner, Koch Media Holding GmbH (the “Seller”), of Koch Media GmbH (“Koch Media”) to acquire 100 percent of the share capital in Koch Media. The total consideration amounts to EUR 121 million on a cash and debt free basis (the “Transaction”). Koch Media is a leading, independent producer and marketer of digital entertainment products in Europe and North America with studios in Germany, the UK, and the US, and offices in several Central and Northern European cities. Koch Media’s business consists of three business areas; i) Games, which are mainly published under the Deep Silver label with several AAA-intellectual property rights such as Saints Row, Dead Island and Metro; ii) Partner Publishing, which is the leading company in this business area in Europe and iii) Film, which is a business within movies for primarily the German and Italian speaking territories. Koch Media generated net sales of approximately SEK 2,548 million and Adjusted EBIT[1] of approximately SEK 296 million for the period April - December 2017. The new group generated pro forma net sales and Adjusted EBIT for the period April - December 2017 of SEK 2,933 million and SEK 505 million, respectively.

“Koch Media has a long history of profitability despite losses incurred from some less successful game releases. THQ Nordic is convinced that the development studios of Deep Silver as part of THQ Nordic will successfully deliver at least four ongoing AAA game projects including Metro Exodus as well as the next Volition Studio AAA release and the next Dambuster Studio AAA release, together with a number of other game development and publishing titles.”, says Lars Wingefors, CEO THQ Nordic “I strongly believe that THQ Nordic is a great strategic fit with Koch Media. In addition to having long experience within games development and publishing, THQ Nordic has the skills, willingness and capital to deliver growth in the future.”, says Dr. Klemens Kundratitz, CEO Koch Media
http://news.cision.com/thq-nordic-ab/r/thq-nordic-acquires-koch-media-gmbh,c2452159 It all comes full circle. Previously, Deep Silver bought some of the properties owned by the old THQ. Now the new THQ Nordic has stepped in and bought them.
Now there is hope for Saints Row V
Now there is hope for Saints Row V
Hopefully they pretend Agents of Mayhem never existed like most consumers did
[t]https://i.imgur.com/zAZRz0j.png[/t] Lol what are you even talking about
A bad dream I guess
Hope it won't impact X4. (Or maybe make it better?) Maybe they could also make a good Emergency game again, not the trash that came out after Emergency 4. There is actually a good amount of great IP that should get a new title.
Well one thing to take away from this is that since THQ Nordic owns Red Faction, this means that Volition could potentially work on that series again.
I feel so fucking smug reading the press releases and articles about this sale referring to AoM being a leading cause of Deep Silver losses that likely led to this deal Imagine buying a property from a dying company, and then fucking up so bad with it that you have to fire a bunch of people and the "dead" company's new form ends up buying your parent company IdolNinja should've listened when we said that this game being singleplayer only doesn't make any fucking sense given the team up theme and that a totally-not Saints Row game without co-op or customizable characters wasn't wanted and was doomed to fail Edit: Their spending had to be mad stupid too because they made a new engine that supposedly has no live online play capability, looks worse than Saints Row 4 and runs worse than Arkham Knight just for it
i read up on licenses and from what i can tell deep silver dont actually own rights to X? Its listed as being owned by the developers wherever i look, with deep silver being associated but not owning it.
They are still the publisher and publisher give the money basically, so there can still be some impact being done by them. Don't think much negative will happen, THQ and Deep Silver are good people for the most part.
THQ is rising from the grave to reclaim the birthright. Poetic really.
Their spending had to be mad stupid too because they made a new engine that supposedly has no live online play capability, looks worse than Saints Row 4 and runs worse than Arkham Knight just for it
For real though it looks like a mid-gen PS3 game and even then looks like its emotionally stagnant and void of anything interesting or unique. SR4 was already insanely vapid, AoM trailers seem to take that to a further extreme. [editline]14th February 2018[/editline] They should have made something new but it tried being this big unique thing while basically just taking SR3 and adding features onto that. It's impossible to be unique while not actually doing anything new. Saints Row 4 basically took a good game and peeled its flesh off, and wore it over its own skin like some kind of flesh body suit And then there is AoM. It took the skin suit out of SR4's trashbin and used it as its own. But it isn't SR3 guys! It's its own UNIQUE thing!

THQ lives again. What a strange timeline.
So... Volition is under Deep Silver and THQ Nordic owns Red Faction and I think Freespace... I wonder if we'll get to see those IPs shine again.
Hopefully they pretend Agents of Mayhem never existed like most consumers did
Well, there is a loophole... we never really saw Saints Row 3. Only Saints Row The Third. A good way to just retcon all that shit as an over the top comic book or a film.
I mean, alternate reality Saints Row with 3rd Street Saints as policemen doing the same shit but "in the name of the law" would be amazing.
I mean, alternate reality Saints Row with 3rd Street Saints as policemen doing the same shit but "in the name of the law" would be amazing.
You just described Agents of Mayhem. And we know how that turned out.
To be fair the premise wasn't why AoM was fucking retarded
You just described Agents of Mayhem. And we know how that turned out.
I meant the same Saints Row but on the other side of the barricades. Maybe even with 4-player coop.
To be fair the premise wasn't why AoM was fucking retarded
Well, story was solid, and the whole game looked promising. But quality issues and gameplay were awful
Please reboot Saints Row or Retcon 4. It's a good game but I really hated the whole super Wacky ALIENZ bullshit. I can JUST stand SR3 (more than most people considering it was my first SR game). I want another SR2. Also was AoM THAT bad?
yes
Saints Row 4 was good. I don’t get the hate
AoM seems to have thrown away everything people liked about SR Oh, you liked wacky co-op with your friends? Single-player only! Oh, you liked pretty expansive character customisation? Preset characters! Oh, you liked all the different guns and toys on offer? Every character has a set loadout you can't change! Oh, you liked open-world shenanigans? The open world has literally nothing in it, all you can do is go to missions or shoot generic enemies!
it was 3 but worse since it was originally DLC they slapped a proper price tag on and made stanadalone
The basic premise yes. But it was completely redone from scratch and they reworked the story. they didn’t just like copy and paste it. (Other then the city) [editline]14th February 2018[/editline] In fact one of the DLC stories for SR4 shows what the original SR3 DLC was going to be and they’re not that similar.
Man, with this news, it'd be fantastic to hear of a true sequel to Saints Row 2 (as much as I liked The Third and IV they're just not true sequels). But then again I'd also be happy with just the current Saints Row 2 with the better controls and speed hijack stuff from The Third Seriously I love 2 much more as a game as a whole but man it's kind of hard to go from The Third/IV and back to 2
Hopefully they pretend Agents of Mayhem never existed like most consumers did
It's a pretty fun game, actually. Just...it really shouldn't have been singleplayer and/or Saints Row-connected. It, theoretically, should help them channel their incessant need for superpower shit in their videogames, in a format that isn't ruining a series that's been "GTA but over-the-top" until 4, and I thoroughly enjoyed it on its own. Console port is trash, but the mechanics were solid and the story didn't hurt to play through. It's certainly not $60-worthy, but if you see it for cheap? Go for it.
Well one thing to take away from this is that since THQ Nordic owns Red Faction, this means that Volition could potentially work on that series again.
As much as I would want to love that I really hope they don't. Don't forget Armageddon was made by the "real" Volition under THQ.
Well, there is a loophole... we never really saw Saints Row 3. Only Saints Row The Third. Just make up some universe reset technology bullshit that lets them do a Saints Row 1 remake and go from there or something. I'm sure die-hard fans would love to run through the original on something that isn't the 360, in co-op, with better shooting mechanics, etc.
