You might want to get ready for not only a new entry in the Eidos' Thief franchise, but also a movie adaptation to go along with it. According to film production company Straight Up Films, a new game for the series is in development alongside a film. This marks the fifth game in the series, which got its start over fifteen years ago. Straight Up Films' website listed the following about the film: "Steeped in the steam-punk world created by the video game, the film will tell a new chapter in the storied world of the series’ hero." The action adventure film is being written by Adam Mason and Simon Boyes, who worked together on Misconduct starring Anthony Hopkins and Al Pacino. While we have yet to hear official confirmation from Square or Eidos on the matter, the biggest news here is another Thief game. We've reached out to Square for comment and will update the story should we hear back.
Game Informer Guess the last installment went over so well they wanted to keep the series going :v:
Another video game movie that'll go over well

"Eidos-Montreal may have adhered too closely to the series’ roots, resulting in a reboot that suffers from classic problems like simplistic combat and trial-and-error sneaking missions" Uh huh, it was because it was TOO MUCH like the originals that it sucked. OK. Sure.

Thi5f: The Degenerate Age a sequel to Thi4f: the decline project
Thi5f: The Degenerate Age a sequel to Thi4f: the decline project
Nah, watch it end up Thieve5, either a competitive arena shoot...., err sneaker or a God damned MOBA.
Nothing gets me more excited for a quality game like a movie tie in.
Make it good and actually get Stephen Russell this time.
Maybe this time we can jump outside of contextual triggers. If you ask me, the Dishonored games are the new best Thief.
I don't trust Square Enix to make a good Thief game. Hopefully this game bombs and they sell off the IP, imagine what NightDive or Otherside could do with it. That's the more exciting prospect, imo.
can't wait for another "stealth" game

Lol the same day they get rid of IO okay thanks Square Enix just kill everything I love.

I remember reading that they more or less scrapped the entire setting and went for something that looked more like Dishonored, with the Victorian era designs. Personally I hate when reboots scrap the entire setting, like how Mirror's Edge ditched the modern setting for a sci-fi future setting.

It had shitty references to the originals, but none of the charm or spirit. The game was, despite looking 'open world', more locked down than Thief 3. It was just.. awful. MAYBE someone got the message and is actually making a proper Thief game now? One can hope, but it's not too likely...
Nah, watch it end up Thieve5, either a competitive arena shoot...., err sneaker or a God damned MOBA.
I'd be OK with it if it was a MOSA (Multiplayer Online Stealing Arena).
I'd be OK with it if it was a MOSA (Multiplayer Online Stealing Arena).
That would actually be really interesting to watch as a spectator sport - set valuable object in building, task people to try and get at it while also allowing them to eliminate each other but without alerting the guards and make it out alive. Basically like jailbreak as the Spy from TF2. :v: I'd watch the shit out of it because it could all go so horribly wrong.
