Ukrainian pilots who were steering an airplane of the Turkish company Atlasglobal were able to safely land an airplane with a badly damaged cockpit on 27 July. The 121 passengers and 6 crew members on board were safely transferred to another airplane, Milliyet reported. At 4000 feet (1220 m) altitude, the airplane ran into some bad hail, in the result of which its front windows and cockpit were damaged.
The pilot Oleksandr Akopov explained that after the Airbus A320 he was steering departed on the IST / ECN flight at 18:10 from Istanbul Atatürk Airport when they ran into a storm. The pilot made a decision to return and was able to land by tilting the airplane to see the runway through the side window and by good coordination with the airport’s dispatchers.
Turkish media reported on Akopov’s professionalism, indicating that he has almost 14,000 flying hours of experience.

That plane got damaged like that because of hail? Are they sure they didn't run into a meteor storm?
Man that's a code brown landing. Seeing a plane still banking that far down the runway would be enough to make me clench. And I'm the person that laughs at others praying during bad turbulence.
Regardless, nice job for getting it down.
Found another video of the landing:

F = M x A
small objects with high acceleration have a shit tonne of force behind them, especially when the plane is travelling at whatever high speeds they go at.
Ukraine hasn't had much luck with planes recently
Not sure if this counts as bad luck or good luck.
A Turkish friend posted these images the same day (27th), most likely the same hailstorm.

Normal nose for reference. Normally doesn't come with preinstalled with a orbital bombardment impact crater.

judging by some of the footage on the ground, probably felt like it. fierce stuff

at the end of the clip you can see a handful more impact shatters show up on that poor car
Thats quite a fucking crater in the nose. Probably a small dent that turned nasty due to the plane losing it's aerodynamic shape.
Man hail is scary. Frozen fist-sized balls falling from the sky at high speed.
Oh boy
That must've sucked big time
One in Argentina, it rained orange sized hail. Insurance companies had a nasty day.

Hail the size of golf balls or baseballs, a plane traveling just under 250 knots, and an aluminum skin that's only 2mm thick, I'd say it took it pretty well.
The crazy part is the hail did all that but the engines kept running
The nose of the plane is damaged so much because that's where the radar is. And it has to be made of plastic to allow radar waves through.

Honestly hes lucky his engines didn't get destroyed, I've watched documentaries about cases far worse with smaller hail that ended pretty badly.

I was once in the front seat of a roller coaster when it started pouring rain as the coaster was about to go down the first drop. Things quickly went from "Oh it's like a water park ride now" to "OH GOD END MY MISERY" as me and the person next to me being in the front seat got absolutely fucking pelted as we smashed through the rain at 60 mph. Now extrapolate that to solid hailstones and a plane flying at anywhere around 500 mph give or take. It'd be like sitting on the runway and in front of you is a never-ending sea of lobsterbacks taking potshots at you with their Brown Besses.
I have to wonder why the fuck they flew into that mess in the first place? At 4000 feet it must've been shortly after takeoff, surely that would've been picked up on the airports radar.
