Two men were fatally stabbed Friday on a train car in Portland, Ore., when they tried to intervene as a fellow passenger screamed anti-Muslim insults at two women, the authorities said.
The victims were attacked when they tried to calm the man, who was ranting and talking disparagingly about the women, one of whom was wearing a hijab, the police said.
“It’s horrific; there are no other words to describe what happened today,” Sgt. Pete Simpson, a spokesman for the Portland Police Bureau, said at a news conference.
One of the victims died in the train car, and the other at a hospital, the police said. A third man who was stabbed was being treated at a hospital. He was expected to recover.
The attack occurred about 5 p.m. in a train car on Portland’s light-rail system. The attacker began yelling — calling Muslims “criminals” — shortly after the two women boarded, said Evelin Hernandez, a train passenger.
“He said, ‘Get off the bus, and get out of the country because you don’t pay taxes here,’” Ms. Hernandez told KATU-TV.
When the two men tried to intervene, he pulled out a knife and slashed them, according to Ms. Hernandez and the police. The two women were not injured and left the station before the police could talk to them, Sergeant Simpson said.
well that went somewhere else real quick
jesus
No words....
Lock him up and throw away the key.
Trump and his rhetoric is to blame for empowering these kinds of fucking degenerates.
:wow:
what a nut

You're exactly right, this is all Trump's fault. He should be tried for murder.

To be fair a lot of crazy homeless people ride public transportation, wouldn't be surprised if he was one of those

Is it that impossible for you Trumtards to connect more than 1 single dot? Or think past a 2nd grade education level?
Trump has continuously bashed, and mislabeled and antagonized the Muslim community. It has without a doubt given power to the racist tards who elected him. They see their president talking shit about the brownies and think, "Well he's the president if he can do it so can I. Fuck them and not paying taxes and all of them are terrorists!". It's a daily fucking occurrence on public transportation.

The lack of treatment for those with serious mental problems is a longstanding problem. This guy didn't pop up in the last six months.

while trump cannot solely be blamed for a lot of the hateful rhetoric going around, he certainly had a major role.
People haven't been shy to bash Muslims since 9/11, Trump may encourage some to be more vocal but it's like you guys are forgetting just how much hate there was going around when Obama was president too. Hell, people were accusing Obama of being Muslim and trying to destroy the US from within because they were so vocal about how much they hated Muslims

wow this is disrespectul, 2 people just died standing up for them.

They probably just wanted to get away from the insane dude who just murdered two men in front of them.

IMO the rise of ISIS and their attacks on western nations themselves have contributed more (not that these justify it) and Trump definitely can't be singularly blamed for the rise of anti-Islam sentiment. Also what Valdor said.

"THESE MUSLIMS ARE ALL CRIMINALS IM GOING TO SHOW YOU BY COMMITTING A CRIME."
Dude obviously has something wrong with him, I just feel terrible for those men who probably had no idea it was going to escalate that quickly. I guarantee if he managed to stab three people he did it on impulse with no warning so I bet none of those guys even had their hands up or anything to defend themselves.
edit - People like this existing honestly make me just try to avoid confrontation with other people all together, and if I had to confront a person on something I always prepare for the worse in my mind. I hate the paranoia but I also don't want to end up on the floor of a train bleeding to death. Like the percentages of these people are small compared to the actual number of people, but that "what if" always sits in the back of my mind. It almost makes me understand their mindset, as it is just an even more isolated, extreme view of mine with a lot more racism. I think looking over how we feel like this can help us gain insight though into how these people get this way and how we should work to stop it before it happens. Like through my own life experiences I can see how someone can easily get informed/raised wrongly and then it is just down hill choices from there and at that point it is just blame blame blame for their state of life. Like I caught myself one time stewing over how my roommates made more money than me, but they also put in a lot of work to achieve that. I think the main medicine humanity needs the most to instill on these people is perspective, but that is a lot easier said than done.

And from the looks of his budget he's going to do fuckall to help with that either.

And the stereotype of Trump voters having the thinnest skin while calling liberals the overly triggered ones continues.

Muslim hate has been happening since before trump dude

Yeah, pretty mature reaction to call for stopping petty insults.
You're no better than a trumptard
Well that's pretty sad, I bet those poor women must feel awful that two good men died so that hateful bigot could live. :frown:
Well this thread went from 0 to polidicks fast.
Damn I didn't even know they figured out what happened already. Last I heard, two had died, one was still in the hospital and one was in custody.

Those people existed before Trump, yes, but they're also the type of people who voted for him. IIRC he was also one of those "Where's the birth certificate?" guys so of course when President Fuckhead is in charge they feel like they've got a field day.
can you please not resort to just yelling at people who support trump

If you're still a Trump supporter after everything that's happened you're so entrenched they're going to be digging you up as a fossil in 3000 years.
can you please not resort to just yelling at people who support trump

Does it even matter at this point? I mean I know the whole piss someone off they won't consider your views, but Trump supporters have pretty much proven themselves loyal to the jackass, so really there is no going back. If the truth won't set them free nothing will besides maybe a lobotomy, and I only say that as a joke.

Having a mental illness is not an excuse for bigoted bullshit like this
The attacker began yelling — calling Muslims “criminals”
...before murdering two bystanders. He must be insane.
Having a mental illness is not an excuse for bigoted bullshit like this
Oh right, we should expect mentally ill hobos to act like rational and tolerant people.
Trump and his rhetoric is to blame for empowering these kinds of fucking degenerates.
Yeah, just like Islam is to blame for empowering terrorists to kill civilians.
Or how videogames lead to youth violence.
Blame the perpetrator.
Having a mental illness is not an excuse for bigoted bullshit like this
Lol, mentally ill people aren't exactly going to be paragons of judgment when it comes to their actions. They no longer have a sense of right or wrong, unless their mental illness itself shows a lucid interval. If a crime is committed during a lucid interval, only then is a mentally ill person responsible for their actions.

In fairness, Trump himself has hardly been charitable to Muslims and has openly called for them to, among other things, wear identifying symbols. Then there was that monumentally stupid statement where he said "you know maybe we should kill the terrorists, and their families too" like that's going to endear him any more to those against that form of rhetoric.
I'm also aware that Islamophobia has seen an uptick after 9/11 in general, but that doesn't also mean that Trump himself is casually adding more fuel to a blazing fire, when he should be setting an example by not inflaming tensions some more. But getting in with his vote bank, particularly the avowed xenophobes and racists/bigots, seems to be more important to him, and his administration's members, than communal harmony.
You also can't deny that there has been an upswing in racially motivated attacks, as well as attacks motivated by bigotry, during and after the election of Donald Trump as President. So far he has done very little to address these or, I might add, condemn them. And until he does, his silence may as well be taken for tacit support by those perpetrating these attacks, or those who see his election as validating their twisted views, combining it with his rhetoric for "America for Americans only".
