Dear NiceHash users! Unfortunately, there has been a security breach involving NiceHash website. We are currently investigating the nature of the incident and, as a result, we are stopping all operations for the next 24 hours. Importantly, our payment system was compromised and the contents of the NiceHash Bitcoin wallet have been stolen. We are working to verify the precise number of BTC taken. Clearly, this is a matter of deep concern and we are working hard to rectify the matter in the coming days. In addition to undertaking our own investigation, the incident has been reported to the relevant authorities and law enforcement and we are co-operating with them as a matter of urgency. We are fully committed to restoring the NiceHash service with the highest security measures at the earliest opportunity. We would not exist without our devoted buyers and miners all around the globe. We understand that you will have a lot of questions, and we ask for patience and understanding while we investigate the causes and find the appropriate solutions for the future of the service. We will endeavour to update you at regular intervals. While the full scope of what happened is not yet known, we recommend, as a precaution, that you change your online passwords. We are truly sorry for any inconvenience that this may have caused and are committing every resource towards solving this issue as soon as possible.
https://www.facebook.com/NiceHash/ Sorry for the Facebook source. The NiceHash Reddit has been up in arms about this all morning and they finally commented on their official Facebook. Everyone's BTC earnings in NiceHash has dropped to 0.00.
it was an #insidejob
Welp, I had just started mining there so only lost about £50-65. Kinda sucks for everyone who had more in their online wallet. I'm away from my PCs until Friday so I can't even switch pools and stuff.
Holy shit 60 million USD, money that given the nature of Bitcoins users won't see ever again... That's some suicide material there :suicide:.
Damn it, I've been mining on there for like a year and had a decent amount of bitcoins, this really sucks.
Watch as the bitcoin bubble pops tomorrow, not due to this but purely out of coincidence, leaving everyone out of their coins anyways
Wow, I'd been doing a shit ton of research about this stuff recently and was really interested in using nicehash. I guess their popularity outpaced their infosec capabilities.
I wonder, how easy is it to actually convert your bitcoin into actual dollars on your bank account? When they say "60 million dollars of bitcoin" would that actually mean that the guy or group who got it, can now cash it out at their banks or something and stop working for the rest of their lives?

Safe to assume its value is gonna plunge now right?
Safe to assume its value is gonna plunge now right?
It'll probably dip as do all stocks when a large panic occurs. Given the explosion of BtC's growth though it'll be a matter of time before it resumes its climb though. I mean this rate of growth is absurd: [t]https://i.imgur.com/8lUxXmO.png[/t] I don't expect it'd pop any time soon, but that's just me.
You know what hasn't been the subject of hacking though? Doge Coin. Just saying, maybe it's time to double down and make cryptos into Meme^2 Currency.

Now it's at 13,320USD according to Preev.com. Jesus Christ's hairy testicles that is some serious exponential growth.
People have been saying bitcoin is gonna pop for years. Now it's at $13k. I wish I had gotten on bitcoin when it started getting into the hundreds, but I was still in high school and couldn't figure out a way to buy any
Here is the transaction showing the 60m being moved / stolen. https://bitinfocharts.com/bitcoin/address/1EnJHhq8Jq8vDuZA5ahVh6H4t6jh1mB4rq

But Bitcoin is deflatory, it was always going to trend this way and the only people who are actually going to benefit from it in the long term are the early adopters. Sure there might be examples of people making a bit of money off it but that pales in comparison to those who mined it early and just held on to the thousands of coins early miners could easily produce. It's not a very good currency due to the deflatory nature. But it seems like it's doing well as "babys first investment gamble".
So, like 12 bitcoins got stolen?
I personally lost $80. I was waiting to get to the 0.01 BTC payment threshold so I could keep it in my personal wallet :c

Remember, the only logical time to invest in risky investments is when you're young. If you understand how to make stock purchases use gdax (way less fees). If not, use coinbase (crazy fees). Be sure you have a strategy to secure your bitcoin (see the bitcoin wiki) before you attempt to follow any of this advice. As an aside..https://anders.com/blockchain/ is an excellent resource to learn how the underlying systems of bitcoin work. Try playing with the tabs in the top right.
I had over £100 in bitcoins on my nicehash account :v: :suicide: EDIT: The funny thing is, I was only a few days from the payout. I'm cursed :v:

[t]https://files.catbox.moe/b02ycf.png[/t] Now's the time to cash in on the meme bubble! $10 gets you a whopping 3800 coins, plus some change! :v:

Bitcoin can't even be used for its intended purpose at the moment thanks to the insane TX fees.

Its actually a major sign of an unhealthy economy.

Blockchain technology is actually pretty great, altcoins are making deals with companies to use them to handle data and calculated predictions. From what I've heard examples are Ripple and banks/transactions, Iota recently with Microsoft and weather/air predictions, Toyota is supposedly looking into blockchain tech for self driving vehicles, and bank of america (i think that's the financial institution) recently filed a patent on a form of blockchain technology to use amongst their network. Bitcoin is the golden key to trading any of these coins on a lot of markets giving it inherent value, and its a great way to store value and be an international currency if on the move. Or your government is retarded with the economy, see Venezuela and Zimbabwe. Cryptocurrency market cap broke 400 billion dollars tonight, it aint going away anytime soon in my opinion.

Upcoming implementations are fit for 1 adress for each m² of the Earth.

The device density is probably higher already in many multi-storey buildings.
Isn't one of NiceHash owners convinced criminal (botnet that infected almost whole world)?

Wouldn't mind throwing 20 bucks at this for a chance.
