Nominated for Best Butt: Shape of Water
Where is blade runner 2049 in best picture
Where is blade runner 2049 in best picture
glad I'm not the only one who had multiple orgasms over the visuals in the cinema
glad I'm not the only one who had multiple orgasms over the visuals in the cinema
It's still nominated for best visuals, cinematography, and three other technical categories. Btw, Christopher Plummer who replaced Kevin Spacey at the last minute also earned a nomination. Impressive.
Blade Runner should definitely win for cinematography, visuals, soundmixing, sound editing, and production. [editline]23rd January 2018[/editline] So basically every category it's been nominated for.
You know they couldn't care less about the animated category when the boss baby is nominated.
But who am I kidding, the voting committee has been shown to be clueless if it wasn't a smash hit they probably haven't seen it, and judging by the lacking sales for blade runner chances aren't good most of the voters have seen it.
Shape of Water is a conflicting film, everything about it is so perfectly executed but the premise and progression of the plot is absolutely bizarre, which almost detracts from the rest of the film. It's cool the actors are up for Oscars though, their acting is A++ in that.
imagine if some mermaid fanfic drama wins over dunkirk lol
Dunkirk is shite fight me
Shape of Water is a conflicting film, everything about it is so perfectly executed but the premise and progression of the plot is absolutely bizarre, which almost detracts from the rest of the film.
I disagree. I have more problems with the execution than the weirdness. [sp]Particularly, the pacing in the first half was extremely fast, which I thought lead to an unconvincing romance. And since that's sort of the main thing in the movie, it didn't really land with me. "Can I offer you a nice egg in this trying time?" -> We have to save him it's not right -> gonna get dat monster dick, all basically in the first half of the movie. Other problems: very predictable plotline in general, and the "oh he's magic he heals people" element is really played out for me.[/sp] The performances were pretty good though, particularly Sally Hawkins and Michael Shannon. I'll be upset if Sally wins over Saoirse or Frances though. Jenkins didn't deserve a nomination, and I like him as an actor. He plays almost the same character he plays in everything else and he's done it better elsewhere.
Best Picture “Darkest Hour” “Dunkirk” “Phantom Thread” “Get Out” “The Post” “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” “The Shape of Water” “Lady Bird” “Call Me by Your Name”
well if i had to choose between get out and dunkirk, the only movies i saw from this list, i'd definitely go for the former
I know nobody at the Oscars gives even the tiniest shit about animated movies but nominating The Boss Baby might just be the biggest insult that category has suffered in years.
I'm surprised, but very pleased to see Three Billboards up there.
You know they couldn't care less about the animated category when the boss baby is nominated.
As if Coco isn't going to win.
where is "Storks"? it's such a charming film. or was that one from the year before?
I think I'm done with the Oscars. I'm reeeeally tired of them constantly shafting animation. The fact that they didn't even nominate LEGO movie and now they've gone and nominated boss baby, a movie that categorically DOES NOT DESERVE to be nominated for best animated, is just a fucking joke They literally just dont care about animation, so fuck it. VES awards are better anyway
It's more insulting they even have an animated category at this point.
glad I'm not the only one who had multiple orgasms over the visuals in the cinema
I saw it 4 times in theaters. Moviepass brah. But yeah holy shit almost every shot in it is memorable. [editline]23rd January 2018[/editline]
imagine if some mermaid fanfic drama wins over dunkirk lol
IMO, Dunkirk was hurt really badly by Nolan's compulsion to needlessly include nonlinear storytelling.

They refused to nominate Tron for its special effects because they thought CGI was cheating. It's not a surprise that they largely use commercial success as their metric for animated movies.
Dunkirk is shite fight me
Nah. It's nothing mindblowing but it's really solid.
Dunkirk might not deserve Best Picture, but Nolan does deserve the nod for best director. It's kind of amazing to think that this is the first time he's even been nominated as such
I just want to say, I saw a movie this year called Wind River and it was one of the best dramas I've ever seen. Not only that, but Jeremy Renner was also very very good, he played a strong but emotionally compromised character and he did it exceedingly well. All the acting was great. The story was heart wrenching, showing the struggles many Native American people have to live with on the reservations. It is a very sad and deep story, but it is so so real. I am absolutely stunned that the Oscars do not honor the film in any way. I think Get Out should get best picture
BUT, I do have a theory as to why: given credit for (one of many) executive producer of the film is non other than Harvey Weinstein.
They cut ties with the Weinstein Company before the campaigning season and scrubbed his name from any material. My guess is that that they simply couldn't keep up as independents in promoting their film during the season while others had studios doing the heavy lifting for them.
I completely forgot about Three Bilboards, I really need to watch it
I think Get Out should get best picture
I don't. It was fairly refreshing, as good horror movies are hard to come by, but there are so many better ones that were completely overlooked because they weren't as popular. [sp]also i just didnt think it was very good[/sp]
Dunkirk was just average but not bad by any means, it's just harder to judge it when all other movies been way more impressive in scope by comparison.
Dunkirk should have just been R rated. I wouldn't be so bothered if it didn't show people getting blown up cartoonishly only for the rest of the movie to be so grounded in reality.
War movies don't have to be gory to be effective imo. I thought it conveyed the feeling of hopelessness very well without it.
