In May 2016, a celebrity couple went through a difficult breakup. Following the public relations guidebook, they formalized an official statement, hitting all the familiar notes. “Everybody thinks everything’s perfect, that we have a perfect life,” they said, “and it’s really not.”
https://www.theverge.com/2017/6/7/15662976/youtube-gossip-vloggers-drama-alert-keemstar-scarce-tabloids Plus, Here Defranco responds to the article. Phillip said earlier he wanted to make a neutral-based news org that didnt focus on a obvious bias back when he first announced it. not shocked to see people feel threatened by it.
person who wrote that article is a joke, there are better people out there who could do a better job.

That doesn’t necessarily mean vloggers are scrambling to get themselves involved in the next YouTube scandal. An emerging class of tabloid reporters online have realized they can capitalize on the clicks just as easily from the outside, by creating gossip-specific channels. Like the magazine and TV tabloids that paved their way, these channels have become the de facto record of YouTube’s celebrity class. Their tuned-in hosts track the site’s main players and their supporting characters diligently, and profit from an audience eager to hear their perspectives.
It's not wrong at all though? DeFranco is debatable, but Keemstar/Scarce/etc are absolutely tabloids and use 99% of the same tricks. What do you think is wrong with the article?

And ok, you only one defended this semi-badly written article?
This is coming from the Verge, it's perhaps less bad than the rest of the Vox network but this is like the daily mail accusing fox news of being a tabloid. The verge is complete trash.
Youtube drama channels are pure trash just like tabloids. Like, who the fuck watches that garbage?
As TotalBiscuit said, old newspaper networks know they're a dying breed and they're lashing out at youtube content creators every opportunity they get.
I wouldn't consider The Verge or anyone in VOX's network that they're "old newspaper networks"
Youtube drama channels are pure trash just like tabloids. Like, who the fuck watches that garbage?
DeFranco may cover a lot of drama and news in his videos but he does take pretty much always neutral stand points in his videos. Something that so many "journalists" from news websites don't do. When he doesn't, he reveals his bias right at the beginning of a subject. And he is certainly not on a level as Keemstar. Nowhere that level. And while he covers up drama, it's not the only thing he talks about. Pretty much everything that is newsworthy. When it comes to stay up2date with stuff happening in the world, I tend to watch his videos rather than other newssites. Here's a good video by Charisma on Command where he breaks down DeFranco and explains what makes him more credible and more trustworthy than many other people and especially so-called journalists. TL;DW: DeFranco keeps himself neutral. When he gets asked questions or is being told of a new perspective towards a specific case, he doesn't try to instantly think up argumentsit but rather saying that he hasn't thought about it that way yet. He admits mistakes rather than trying to justify himself or writing himself into a corner. And he acts against his financial interests.

People like DeFranco would be nothing without traditional news media. Take a random DeFranco video and take a shot every time he cites an online news site that actually does its own fucking journalism occasionally, and you'll pass out before the video is over
