[WAR BEGINS SUNDAY 24TH JULY [8PM > 9PM] Website - http://www.robotwars.tv/ Partaking teams & robots - http://www.robotwars.tv/competitors/ Championship Bracket* - http://www.robotwars.tv/competitors/ *May be out of date What the hell is this? It does exactly what it says on the tin. Before there was the American show Battlebots, there was Robot Wars. An series of Robot Fighting live events that took place from 1994 to 1997 in America before being made into a British technological game show that was originally broadcasted back in 1998 on the British Broadcasting Corporation and ran till 2004 where it was cancelled by Channel 5. You could say that peace was found. Then those bloody yanks decided to start prodding with things they shouldn’t be touching and ended up igniting Robot Fighting yet again with Battlebots and it was only a matter of time before the armistice is dropped hard and the Robot Wars begin once again, now headed by the Irish man, because the original Smeghead is too busy is hanging out with a hologram, a robot and a cat in space. But still, could be worse. Will the war continue after this year? Well, give war a chance and we’ll see what happens. What the hell is so different about it compared to Battlebots? While both are similar to one another. There are a few differences that seperate them, mostly minor. For one, certain weapons like say, Flamethrowers are banned in Robot Wars aside from one of the House Robots, yet allowed in Battlebots. Drones are a current trend in Battlebots yet may not be used in Robot Wars. Another more considerable difference was weight. Originally, Battlebots ran different weight classes like say, boxing but now have the robots fight at the same weight class of 250.0 pounds or 113 Kilograms, making them slightly above "Heavyweights". This is roughly the same as Robot Wars today, prevously having the limit at just 100kg. The major factor is the arena itself and what it contains, while Battlebots contains more hazards to worry about in their arena. Robot Wars opts for fewer more decisive ones. There is not much known about the Arena in the 2016 version but one thing is most certain to remain. The Robot Wars arena contains active "Hazards" known as the "House Robots", they don't follow the regular rules that competitors have to follow and their main purpose is to fuck you up. Also, from what was seen during the original run. There's less fluff and reality tv bullshit, And Robot Wars was a lot less spoiler-ish with it's previews. Although considering that one is American and full of adverts and other has a lack of adverts because of how the BBC is done, it's going to much easier to watch. But i say that as someone who's British and scratches his head at the sight of an bombardment of American advertising and your milage may vary. What the hell is a House Robot? Battlebots Update, this comedy/satire website that focuses on Robot Fighting explains the house robots perfectly, I can’t really argue with it. “If you’ve never seen Robot Wars before, the “House Robots” are basically bastardized referees of sorts that hang out in the corners of the arena (dubbed the “Corner Patrol Zones”) and just wait for the drivers of the robots to be stupid enough to cruise over to them wherein the House Robots utterly decimate them and erase the competitor from history. They also leave their zones when a robot is knocked out, that way they can exact their pound of flesh from the fallen fighter and throw them in the arena pit or whatever. Basically, if you die in Robot Wars you die for real.” They have been upgraded from the previous showings and will not be so much of a pushover as they where at the end. Have a look at them right here. http://metro.co.uk/2016/06/23/robot-wars-2016-the-house-robots-are-back-and-bigger-and-badder-than-ever-5962916/ - - - Wait, Where’s Sgt Bash? (In the reboot) MIA [sp]They didn’t have the time to build him, basically.[/sp] I want more Robot Fighting. - - - Where do I watch the original show? A dude on YouTube has archived everything Robot Wars related, containing most of the episodes from the early days of Clarkson to the ill-fated seventh season which was shown on Channel 5. I can’t see a reason why they would be blocked, I’d hope not anyway. https://www.youtube.com/user/BBCRobotwarsUK https://www.youtube.com/user/FiveRobotWarsUK - - - What about older stuff? Another dude has an archive that consists of a few other robot fighting shows, such as Battlebots. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJd8Y2GVUYWHuo_PcApvPPw - - - What about the newer stuff? (Battlebots 2015/2016) Thanks to Youtube's Copyright ID thing, it's a bit harder to get a hold of episodes. You're on your own there. Let the wars begin.

So glad they are bringing this back, and as someone who doesn't really know how much fighting robots have changed due to improvements in technology since it went off air I think I'm in for a treat.
With there not being many details in this thread: The new format has nine battles an episode: Two four-way melees in the first round, the second round is a round-robin tournament between the four qualifiers, and the two highest scorers going through to a 1v1 heat final. The final uses roughly the same format, but with two three-way melees, with the five heat winners and a wildcard, picked by the judges from the heat runners-up. And of the forty competitors, these are the ones that have been officially confirmed: Behemoth Dantomkia Thor Sabretooth Eruption Terror Turtle Storm 2 Apollo Pulsar Ironside 3 Glitterbot Carbide TR2 And as for the arena: Four main hazards - Flame grille, Flipper, Pit of Oblivion, and Floor Spikes. Each hazard is surrounded by a red border, and is right next to a CPZ. The pit is still operated by a tyre, but this time is on the opposite side of the arena than the pit.
Ah, thanks for the new information. Is it me or does the arena seem smaller? Then again i've only seen the one screenshot of it. It did look smaller.to.me I hope flipping robots out the arena wont be too problematic but i am slight bias against then.
The old arena was 32ft by 48ft, which is about 9.75m by 14.6m, whereas the new one is 15m by 15m. It probably looks smaller because everything in it is larger than the old ones. The walls are about 2m high, apart from the gaps where robots enter, and the pit release, so it should be much harder to flip robots out of the arena.

Are flippers banned? I remember towards the later seasons, everybody just built flippers and it got boring as fuck.
Are flippers banned? I remember towards the later seasons, everybody just built flippers and it got boring as fuck.
No, but the producers turned away a number of flippers in this series for a greater variety of weapons. Gravity from Series 7 were told by the producers that they couldn't compete because of this reason.

Flippers are easily the least creative bots and I'm glad there's gonna be more variety now.
"The uploader has not made this available in your country" Fffffffffffffffff
For those outside the UK: Teaser 1 Teaser 2 Teaser 3 Launch Trailer And with the Launch Trail, we can add: Terrorhurtz Draven M.R. Speed Squared King B Remix Nuts To the list of officially confirmed competitors.
So, it seems that the House Robots have now got twitters and it sounds like Robot Wars will be broadcasted this month. Sir Killalot - "Fear me, I am the Dark Lord of Robot Wars. (Location - Your Laundry Basket)" Dead Metal - "I like circular saws" Sgt Bash - "I've been benched for this series. I'm not bitter about it though.. I mean, sometimes you save the best til last right?....RIGHT???" Shunt - "Yes I got had by Roadblock in Series 1 Sumo - let it go!"
Holy shit those robots look badass. Are they returning champs? Does battlebots just have shitty competitors in comparison?
Holy shit those robots look badass. Are they returning champs? Does battlebots just have shitty competitors in comparison?
They're the House Robots, or Robot Wars' equivalent to Battlebot's hazards. They're massive above-the-rules robots that patrol the corners of the arena in every fight, mauling whatever enters their zone. They make for a good showing when a robot is incapacitated and they come over to gangbang the parts out of it. They're truly feared threats, especially when Sir Killalot weights nearly 4x the max weight of your standard participant. They add a lot of tension and drama to what could be otherwise boring fights, unlike, say, how old Battlebots often just ended up being 2 wedges slamming into each other. With my returning interest in robot combat, I'm so fucking psyched to see this show back in action. While reboot Battlebots sets the bar for robot combat pretty high I'm interested to see how Robot Wars will match that,
Oh God I'm so excited.
The BBC have released a press pack for the series, with the rules, and the draw: Episode 1
Behemoth, Bonk, Carbide, Kill-E-Crank-E, Nuts, Razer, Terrorhurtz, The General
Episode 2
Chimera, Disconstructor, Draven, Foxic, M.R.
Holy shit those robots look badass. Are they returning champs? Does battlebots just have shitty competitors in comparison?
battlebots is boring... the robots may be more powerful and crazy but they're way too nerdy and serious to be any fun. you guys don't have anything as good as this:
I was given a scrap of Diotoir's fur from the team when I went to see it live. I think I've still got it somewhere, if it hasn't disintegrated by now. Super psyched for the new series. Sad to see Sgt Bash isn't returning, but at least my boy Shunt's looking p. good.
When I was about 6 or so, my parents took me to see Robot Wars live for my birthday. It was an event or something, it had a huge hall outside where you could see the Roboteers and talk with them. And after that they filmed an Episode of Robot Wars, it was fucking awesome. But after the episode ended, Craig Charles called out for the biggest Robot Wars fan to go up and stand with him at the booth thing and I couldn't stop screaming. It was like my entire life had lead up to this, it was my birthday and I could stand there! But some kid with a terminal disease got to go up instead and I was heartbroken. I remember shouting "It's not fair!" very loudly and stomping my tiny feet about. Sorry to whoever that kid was :(
battlebots is boring... the robots may be more powerful and crazy but they're way too nerdy and serious to be any fun. you guys don't have anything as good as this:
I was always amazed when comparing Robot Wars designs to Battlebots designs. So many Robot Wars contestants had ridiculously tacky and silly designs and still went in just for the hell of it. You never heard "we're really not expecting to win but we'll give it our best shot" in Battlebots. Only problem was when designs as Chaos 2 and Cassius caught on and people realized how unfairly the Robot Wars arena favored flippers unlike Battlebots whose arena and ruleset gave a pretty level playing ground for all types of bot (at least the original series since requiring a powered weapon meant that the check vertical spinner, the wedge, can't be entered). Additionally because of that the series never got many "destructive" bots not named hypnodisc and they had to rely on the house bots for all the gore. I'm glad the new design of the arena has the walls put up much higher in most parts to make flipper bots have to put in a bit of effort in order to claim their easy win.
Meet the House Robots preview minisode will be up on iPlayer 11th July.
Oh yes, this will be good. And do i see razer entering?

In the Radio Times now: 24th July at 8pm for the first episode.
So how many episodes before one of the new revamped house robots get inadvertently smashed up by bot made from Victorian pram wheels.

So The One Show just showed some footage from the series, and whilst most of it was from the first round melees, one of the scenes may be a massive spoiler, so if you're trying to avoid spoilers, don't watch it.
