• Spotify and Hulu reach deal to have one combined $5 student plan
Spotify and Hulu are teaming up to combine both of their streaming services into a single education bundle for only $4.99 per month. That’s a pretty remarkable deal for students. The offer pairs Spotify Premium and Hulu’s on-demand streaming plan (yes, with ads) at a price cheaper than either would cost individually to regular customers. Spotify’s student plan is already $4.99 monthly, so you’re basically getting Hulu tossed in for free. You can sign up here. If you already have Spotify Premium for Students, you can now activate the Hulu side. And if you’ve got a regular Hulu subscription (with no add-ons), you can merge that with your education Spotify account. The offer is only available in the US. But this is just the beginning of what sounds like a major partnership between the two companies, and soon it will expand to include all consumers in some form — not just students. Spotify and Hulu describe the education deal as a “first step” in bundling their services together and promise “offerings targeted at the broader market to follow.” Two popular services are trying to create an irresistible combo.
Source: The Verge
holy SHIT I can finally afford this all these subscriptions.
Hmm, Spotify and Hulu merging would be weird and interesting. I mostly use Spotify, but I hop on Hulu from time to time for some shows.
Was about to post that it sucks that Sweden has no student discount yet but turns out that exists now. Wonder how long I've been paying double when I could've saved money. :v: Only seems to be for 12 months though but I'll take it.
What?! Companies are realizing that Students have barely any money, and are HELPING THEM? :freakout:
What?! Companies are realizing that Students have enough money issues and are HELPING THEM? :freakout:
Do you guys not get offers in the US normally or something? In Sweden all students get special discounts on just about everything from clothes and food to technology.
holy SHIT I can finally afford this all these subscriptions.
Depends on how much one can afford and what one wants. I think it's going to be competition between bundled subscriptions primarily such as google's play and youtube, spotify and hulu, amazon prime, and perhaps apple at some point. But that's only in experiencing media as we could also go into software subscriptions such as Adobe or Microsoft Office. Not to mention ISP and Cable subscriptions. Something in me makes me thinks the threshold will be met in terms of a cluttered market causing a number to join with another or die. It's a payment model that will always be dependent and doomed upon competition.
Do you guys not get offers in the US normally or something? Some places have, like, $2 off but other places are $5 off (where your mean is normally about $10, so it's a solid 50%).
cool, now I have hulu for an extra $0 a month
Do you guys not get offers in the US normally or something? In Sweden all students get special discounts on just about everything from clothes and food to technology.
nope. Apple gives student discounts though, and Amazon Prime does too but that's about it.
nope. Apple gives student discounts though, and Amazon Prime does too but that's about it.
check out the app Unidays—a lot of retailers/brands do student discounts [editline]7th September 2017[/editline] in the us
It's very rare, and companies have virtually no incentive to give deals since students spend a significant portion of their income regardless.
That's just not true. Almost all mainstream professional software lets students get licenses for cheap/free.
Well fuck time to cancel my Hulu subscription and gain Spotify in the process as well as saving money. Hot damn, I missed crossfading my music in playlists when I switched to Google Play Music. [editline]a[/editline] Shame I'll have to put up with commercials though, If they had a $7 plan instead for ad-free I'd use that. [editline]a[/editline] lmao I have to wait until the 23rd to switch fuck off
I really sucks you have to watch ads on hulu though. I heard it's kind of ridiculous how many there are.
nope. Apple gives student discounts though, and Amazon Prime does too but that's about it.
I'm starting to think the US just loves to fuck over students for some reason.
over here spotifies student subscription requires a credit card. almost nobody has a credit card here, especially students. well maybe international students do.
aaaaaaaaaaaand its not available in sweden
Do you guys not get offers in the US normally or something? There are also numerous grants out there that, if you just spend a week researching and performing the required tasks for the sponsor and you'll have a bachelors degree paid off.
aaaaaaaaaaaand its not available in sweden
why would you even think it was hulu doesn't exist in sweden
What?! Companies are realizing that Students have barely any money, and are HELPING THEM? :freakout:
Don't worry, data providers will take care of fucking up your wallet.
