Created by Gerry and Sylvia Anderson, and first broadcast in 1965, Thunderbirds followed the adventures of International Rescue, a secret humanitarian organisation, headed by Jeff Tracy alongside his sons, Scott, Virgil, Alan, Gordon and John, with tech genius Brains, as they and their fleet of super-advanced vehicles, the Thunderbirds, helped save lives from freak disasters and extraordinary accidents, Whilst avoiding having their secrets stolen by The Hood, a criminal mastermind with mystical powers. The organisation was assisted by a network of agents to help maintain the utmost secrecy, headed by Lady Penelope Creighton-Ward, and her butler Parker. Originally filmed in Supermarionation, the new show will be a mix of CGI and live-action, with computer animated characters interacting with model sets and vehicles, built by WETA, the visual effects company behind The Lord of the Rings, Avatar and King Kong (2005).
Thunderbirds was a hugely influential television series in my childhood. Having watched it originally in black and white, it was only years later that I discovered the full and rich world that Gerry and Sylvia Anderson, Derek Meddings, Mike Trimm and their team created. It is thrilling therefore to think we have the opportunity to work with ITV on this new series inspired by this most wonderful of British shows. I personally, together with the teams here at Pukeko Pictures and Weta Workshop, look forward to designing and creating an inspirational world that will engage the imagination of a whole new generation as it did for us nearly half a century ago
Richard Taylor, co-owner of Pukeko Pictures and WETA Workshop.
Head Writer: Rob Hoegee (Generator Rex, Teen Titans)
You had my curiosity, but now you have my attention. Is the original series any good? I only know about it because of Team America.
You had my curiosity, but now you have my attention. Is the original series any good? I only know about it because of Team America.
It's really good. Some of the episodes are on Youtube, but I don't know how many.
Holy shit yes. Remember this as a kid. I hope the CGI is just the special effects and they continue to use puppets for the acting, although I did like the appeal of models and real effects.
"computer animated characters interacting with model sets and vehicles,"
I do hope they have that atmosphere that the model sets created. I can understand the CGI making life easier for puppetry, but I hope they have that odd walking movement (as if it's still a puppet) and not a realistic one. It will definitely make an improvement on the Thunderbird vehicles themselves though.
Question: wasn't Colonel Casey in the original series? ^this guy
Used to love this show as a kid. Thunderbird 2 was and is the best Thunderbird, let's be honest.

So long as it looks better than their previous attempt to revive the series. Also anime thunderbirds:
Rosamund Pike as Lady Penelope? Perfect.
I remember having the main vehicles of the show as Matchbox toys. They were awesome. So nostalgic
Has anyone got any footage from this new series? Can we also expect a Captain Scarlet series reboot soon as well?
There was already a Captain Scarlet reboot a few years ago, from what I saw of it it was good, kept to the tone of the original show as much as one could expect, animation looks a little naff today but its okay.

the humans don't look great
Scott, Virgil and John all look like the original puppets, but Alan and Gordon look like someone drew faces on potatoes.

Why do they always have to wear these spandex onesies? Scott looks bangin' though

People in SH are complaining about every show being rebooted with CGI, but to be honest it looks okay here, and when the source material is almost 50 years old, I think an artistic change isn't the worst thing in the world. It's not like it aired in stop-motion last week and CGI the next week like Postman Pat.

Where are their hats? They don't look like uniform, they all dress differently. At least they're keeping the original vehicle designs, thank god. But what about the theme tune, that was the best.
