Facebook has made a lot of choices that people don't like, such as separating Messenger from the main Facebook app, making the Facebook app slow and huge, adding a ton of bloat to Messenger, etc. I could go on and on. But this latest potential addition could be the worst yet, at least to our eyes.
The feature looks to be in testing currently (and we hope it stays there forever). Twitter user Evert Groot seems like the first one to have posted about this, and his screenshots have revealed these colored comments are a major eyesore. It looks like you'll be able to choose from seven eye-hurting colors/gradients, including orange, bright green, and purple. Luckily, the backgrounds look to be limited to mobile, at least for now.
Oh thank god, it's something I've always wanted to really get my emotions across while I post about how much traffic there is on my way to buy toilet paper.

So...brown?
Haha this guys last name is Groot
but honestly it looks like shit, I don't understand why we'd need comments to stand out like this. Seems rather pointless
I thought we got over gradients in the 2000s please don't bring them back.

can we go back to boxes around things as opposed to circles please
Thanks Mark, it's terrible.

I also prefer boxes.
circles and subtle gradients are the 2017 design fad, huh.
i hate it.
Meanwhile, trolls still get top comment slot because of their shitty ass algorithms.

Microsoft is going to roll out Fluent Design later this year, which hopefully will kick things into the 'hard edges and really fancy rendering' direction :v:
Unfortunately it's not trivial to copy and the translucent plastic material is pretty much impossible to do in a web browser right now.

Hope they don't stick with the unbalanced vertical positioning of their type...

I can't remember where I heard this from, but I think the vertical offset exists because of special Latin characters:
FLŪÈŃT DÊŚIGÑ
So...brown?
No, that would be cultural appropriation, we can't do that
Just let me costumise my facebook page with HTML like I could with ny myspace page instead.
Oh thank god, it's something I've always wanted to really get my emotions across while I post about how much traffic there is on my way to buy toilet paper.
Probably best not to post them at all unless you like the idea of following it up with a sad emojii about how you wrecked your car while typing it.

I think HTML customization isn't ever going to happen, there's too much to think about, if you do HTML wrong you can screw things up for people in certain browsers or break accessibility, plus you don't want a situation where someone has used green text on a red background so it's hard as shit to read. I think a level of color customization would be nice, kinda like Twitter has its theme color option.

thats a really dumb reason to have an offset t b h

Oh god no no NO
Fucking. Circle. Avatarts. Can this shit fad die?
Now Facebook comments can look like all of my middle school power point text bubbles
Well that's gonna look hideous.

Can we talk about those color background statuses they added? The way you treat text affects the way it reads back.
Now even the most inane shit people post looks like a special announcement.
