Entertainment Weekly can exclusively reveal that independent entertainment studio IM Global and independent U.K. games developer and publisher Rebellion have struck a deal to turn the iconic comic book character into a live-action TV show called Judge Dredd: Mega City One. The potential show is set in a future where the East Coast of the U.S. has become a crowded and crime-ridden megalopolis. The plan is to make the series an ensemble drama about a team of Judges — futuristic cops invested with the power to be judge, jury, and executioner — as they deal with the challenges the future-shocked 22nd century throws at them.
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
I'm so excited.
Karl Urban please
Too good to be true.
Can't wait to find out why I shouldn't get excited.
I liked the 1995 film.

Heresy.
[sp]I like it too, but as a Dredd film it's garbage.[/sp]
Karl Urban please
Cameo at best. TV shows almost never get the big names
HNNNNNG Yes please!
Cameo at best. TV shows almost never get the big names
He was in a TV buddy cop show about android becoming more human-like a few years back, it's not impossible to think he could return for this.
I personally hope so, even if it's just special guest starring and not main character.
Fuck I'm so hyped.

Yeah, Karl Urban would never do-

Edit: God damn I miss this show
Karl Urban please
He's been tweeting and talking about a potential show for a while, I'm hard pressed to believe he wouldn't be the one doing it if he's talking about it so much
Karl is also super into Judge Dredd.
He refused to remove the helmet on camera, since they were going to do that at some point in the film.
It's a tough setting to cover. Goofy yet gritty, with plotlines going from the very silly to the very grim. Fatties illegally having eating competitions after one of the major crises, Judge Death and co. controlling the city, the most delicious candy in the world being sealed away and it's creator sent in exile to space, a major nuclear war with the Russian Megacities...
Tough to manage tone and setting. The 1995 movie bears that out, and while Dredd was a very good movie it lacked some of the goofiness... and was also not nearly densely populated enough!
Drokkin' awesome! I think Dredd really does lend itself to a TV series; although it does have its share of big epic stories a lot of them are briefer procedurals or longer tales that benefit from serialization.

From the concept poster it looks like it'll be going closer to the more stylized futuristic look from the comics (and the '95 movie)... very excited to see where this goes.
i hope it is mostly a "monster of the week" style show with a few multi-episode arcs

This is simply not true anymore. Plenty of shows these days have huge names. I mean, Kevin Spacey anyone?
if karl urban is aboard i will ejaculate
This is simply not true anymore. Plenty of shows these days have huge names. I mean, Kevin Spacey anyone?
Netflix can easily afford Spacey
Can an indie entertainment studio and indie game developer do the same? (spoiler: no)
FUCK YES! Please Karl Urban as Dredd

Alot of major TV productions these days seem to have at least 1 big movie star on board. The roles have more substance to them and with the way things are going it seems likely an A list TV star could earn more money than if they were in film in the near future. A few of the actors in Game of thrones for example are rumoured to get around 5 million for a whole series..
Aside from the shows others have listed with big stars in them, off the top of my head
The night manager on BBC
The Knick
11/22/63
Board Walk Empire
Fargo
True Detective
Hannibal
Big Little Lies
Karl Urban in a Dredd TV show is not outside the realm of possibility, I hope he is cause I can't see anyone else doing the role justice. But as the person above me said, an indie studio might not be able to afford him. Tha tbeing said, while this studio hasnt made any TV shows yet, it is a spin off branch from the guys who made the film, in tandem with what i'd consider a AAA game company. Money might not be an object.
even if karl isn't in this i'll give it a shot, as long as they stick to what makes dredd good
If Karl isn't Dredd then the guy who voiced him in Dredd VS Death and the audio progs would be perfect.

''THE LAWWRGRHAGRHRHTHRH''
Let's hope it's got Sylvester Stallone, Even if he's the bad guy i'll take that..
Speaking of Karl Urban, last year he stopped by the 2000AD/Rebellion offices and he retweeted the series announcement. So who knows...

he doesnt have much else going on right now as far as i know either, hmmmm
i wonder if the actor playing Dredd (hopefully Urban) will have to come up with a special frowning technique to avoid developing a cramp in his mouth and cheek muscles
I think they'll get Karl Urban unless some shit out of his control happens. Lots of big screen actors are moving to TV because that's where the compelling stories are now. I think Keifer Sutherland said that's why he did 24.
Pierce Brosnan is starring in a show on AMC now too
