Jeff Bezos just became the world’s richest person. A surge in shares of Amazon early Thursday — coupled with a slight dip in Microsoft shares — helped Amazon’s 53-year-old founder vault past Bill Gates to top the world’s wealthiest list for the first time. Shares of the online retailer rose 1.8 percent to $1,071.31 as of 9:30 a.m. in New York, giving Bezos, who owns about 17 percent of the e-commerce giant, a net worth of more than $90 billion, surpassing Gates’ $89 billion. Gates, 61, has held the top spot since May 2013, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires index.
http://nypost.com/2017/07/27/jeff-bezos-becomes-worlds-richest-person/ Edit: It was fun while it lasted
damn, doesn't he work on like a 70k salary though (as much as his stock is worth literal craptonnes) [editline]a[/editline] neevermind, seems like he made like 1.6m compensation in a year

Why are they not using the best picture of him that makes him look like a bollywood vin diesel :v: [t]http://i.imgur.com/JxWudMo.jpg[/t]
Why are they not using the best picture of him that makes him look like a bollywood vin diesel :v: [t]http://i.imgur.com/JxWudMo.jpg[/t]
This is what a man looks like after going from "I sell books" to "I sell everything".
What's up Jeff, hit me up, I got student loans.
That is a disgusting amount of money. I would love to have it but I wouldn't know what to do with it.
Why are people rating this dumb? Cause someone got rich who wasn't them? [editline]27th July 2017[/editline] also ffs always accidentally read his name as Jeff Benzos.
That is a disgusting amount of money. I would love to have it but I wouldn't know what to do with it.
It's not money, it's wealth. He can't do anything with it without selling shares in Amazon. He's not the richest man in the world because he's hoarding money. He's rich because a thing he owns a lot of is extremely valuable. His net worth is a reflection of the value of his assets. [editline]27th July 2017[/editline] Wealthy people are not necessarily greedy people. [editline]27th July 2017[/editline] He also sells about $1B worth of that Amazon stock each year and invests it in his space company, Blue Origin. A direct competitor to SpaceX, sharing similar ambitions. In that regard he's much more powerful than Musk. His wealth is massive.
In that regard he's much more powerful than Musk
ok but who would win in a fight
He's not perfect and Amazon has some fair criticism, but there are a lot more rich people to hate on than Bezos.
Probably Bezos. Look how hard ass he looks
Why are they not using the best picture of him that makes him look like a bollywood vin diesel :v: [t]http://i.imgur.com/JxWudMo.jpg[/t]
Though in that particular image he looks like an ironed out J.K Simmons.
For $90 billion he sure has a humble car

[editline]27th July 2017[/editline] also ffs always accidentally read his name as Jeff Benzos.
I don't like how Amazon treats its employees, so I view his wealth as based on the explotation of his employees. [editline]27th July 2017[/editline] Also Bill Gates and Warren Buffet are doing much better things with their wealth.
Not anymore he isn't :v:
...it does mean, however, that Bezos’ personal fortune, given his roughly 80 million shares in Amazon, will take a sizable enough hit to keep him from climbing back to the top. Bezos was already back at second place at the time of market close today, but strong enough earnings would have clinched him the crown going into tomorrow. Yet Amazon’s stock is down 2 percent in after-hours trading, thanks to the earnings miss, making it highly likely Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates will hold onto the title with his personal fortune of $90.8 billion and climbing.
https://www.theverge.com/2017/7/27/16052792/amazon-q2-2017-earnings-jeff-bezos-worlds-richest-person-title
Could he spare us a small loan of a million dollars?
also ffs always accidentally read his name as Jeff Benzos.
Hey, Bezoz, Jeff here
For $90 billion he sure has a humble car
I'd like to imagine that if I suddenly became rich I'd still drive my truck.
Jeff who?

Holy shit, with money like this i'll be making my own Legoland.
For $90 billion he sure has a humble car
Yeah, but to be honest who wants to worry about driving a million dollar car through traffic?
Holy shit, with money like this i'll be making my own Legoland.
you wouldn't even need a full 1 Billion for that :v:

Those flying amazon warehouses suddenly seem so close.

I get that some people think of cars as the ultimate status symbol, or as big dangerous toys to rip around tracks (or streets, Cubeman) in, but for many of us they are literally just a way to get from A to B. As long as my ride is reliable, comfortable, safe, and practical, I'm happy. My dream car is a passenger van. [t]http://image.trucktrend.com/f/32596425+re0+ar0+st0/01z-2010-best-in-class-passenger-van-mercedes-benz-sprinter-exterior.jpg[/t] Mmm, yeah, look at all that space. Look at all the headroom. I can really stretch out in you, you bad boy. Just imagine all the things I can fit in you. I can get my whole family in you. I bet I could slide a whole couch into your rear, you big hearty van -- help my friends move furniture. And a little birdy told me about your heated driver's seat? Oh, yeah, you know just how to treat me, passenger van. Wait, what's this I see? A backup camera? Oh, stop!
He's back down to being 2nd richest now as Amazon share prices fell. http://fortune.com/2017/07/27/jeff-bezos-amazon-earnings-second-richest-person/
