Blindfolded corpses roasting in sun show those who suffered under ISIL have begun to settle scores
The bodies lay decomposing in the hot Iraqi sun, blindfolded with their hands bound behind their backs.
The only clue as to how these 11 men met their deaths, there at the side of the road 20 miles south of Mosul, was the bullet casings scattered next to their corpses.
Some The Daily Telegraph spoke to in the nearby town of Hammam al-Alil claim they were members of Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant. Some say they were innocent boys who had been the victims of mob justice.
What is clear is they will never face trial to answer the accusations.Six months after the town was liberated from ISIL by the Iraqi army, local tribal forces and residents who suffered at the hands of the jihadists during their brutal two-and-a-half-year reign have begun settling scores.
Good to see Iraq stepping up the green power.

Be pretty fucked if this turns out to be true, people would be pissed enough at ISIS I can see witchhunts starting up and killing anyone accused of associating with them

I wouldn't be surprised if more innocents get caught up in this as people look for revenge on DAESH. Not that it's undeserved against some of these bastards but steps need to be taken to ensure it doesn't devolve into lynch mobs looking for easy scapegoats.
Vigilante justice never sits easy with me. I can see why it's happening in this case as the local governments are probably in shambles, but effort should be made to rebuild institutions of justice rather than taking it into your own hands.
Sounds like this will turn into a witchunt where people will baselessly accuse those they dislike. There's a reason mob justice is frowned upon.

As terrible as it is, one who plays stupid games, will receive very stupid prizes. Tons of villagers tend to know who collabarated with Daesh and who didn't. VICE has a video on showing how the Iraqi Federal Police goes around figuring this out. They effectively gather every man in the village, and will ask them very bluntly about who did what, and almost everyone will admit to some things, but those who admit to direct financial/military support to ISIS willlingly are usually picked up and interrogated.

What if you had nothing to do with ISIS but just got accused by someone that doesn't like you?
I think that's the point he's trying to make

All though that'll most likely happen, for the most part, the villagers tend to work around a system of organizing village councils with every male in the village bearing witness, and being required to usually give their input on the punishment. Most of the time this is monitored by the Iraqi Federal Police.
Ali Hamed Ahmed told The Daily Telegraph he was fearful when he read his own name on the social media page on Saturday. Later that day, just before midnight, a gang threw explosives at his front door.
The 65-year-old former ambulance driver believes he was targeted because three of his sons had been ISIL fighters. The eldest was killed in battle and Ahmed made the other two hand themselves over to security services late last year.
yeah, sure.
And can you post a source for what you said?
Cause from what I'm reading in the OP it's a vigilante group going around attacking the families of people they suspect to be ISIS members without police input while the police don't give a fuck about it.
The mental image is not pleasant. Sure, they're ISIS, but I'm not a huge fan of the whole mass execution thing
sectarian 2 extra judicial boogaloo
As much as I like hearing about ISIS paying for their attacks, this will only lead to further issues. Cannot blame the population though, I would probably be enraged if I had to live in such conditions or losing family members.
I do not think that having dead carcasses displayed in the open is a thing that should be found in our world.

the problem is that in order to rebuild institutions of justice the citizens will have to take matters into their own hands.

Yeah sadly this is a typical occurrence in situations like these. After WW2 French villages started to round up collaborators and publicly shamed them if not worse. Women who were known (or thought) to have slept with German soldiers often forcibly had their head shaven and were paraded outside, sometimes with swastikas drawn on their foreheads. This being a mob thing it often went very wrong.

Real shitty stuff.
