I'm halfway through the movie and it definitely would.

So far the atmosphere and setting is great, but the script and story is very meh. It would definitely be better as a series that David Ayer has nothing to do with.

I feel like it's unfair to attribute the quality (or lack thereof) of a movie solely on the writer and/or director

A shitty director can make a shitty movie out of a good script and a shitty script can be made into a good movie by a good director. I don't know exactly which situation Max Landis falls into but food for thought.

People who have read the original script have confirmed that it was very different, and much better overall. None of the "Fairy Lives Don't Matter" stupidity, for instance. And this isn't the first time one of Landis's scripts has been meddled with either.
