Fans have known a beta version existed for over a decade, but have been unable to secure its release. Now, out of the blue, an even earlier version of the game surfaces, and is fully playable to boot. (the beta had a glitch that prevented progress past the initial level)
I can easily have sworn I played this game as a kid...
I miss Bionicle. I think I still have that little flash adventure game saved somewhere.
I can easily have sworn I played this game as a kid...
I don't suppose you're thinking of Bionicle: The Game? That was released in 2003 along with the first Bionicle movie, and had a mixture of levels featuring the Toa and Toa Nuva.
Holy shit. I remember people searching for this years ago. Most of Year 1's story was told through the Mata Nui Online Game, which followed Takua's journey but didn't really involve the Toa too much. This is the missing half of the story that was meant to be told through their perspective. I can't believe they finally fucking found it.
I can easily have sworn I played this game as a kid...
It's possible you were thinking of promotional material that was found on the back of some of the instructions which featured screenshots from this alpha. As a young-adult I tried finding this game, thinking "where the heck is it!?" despite having pictures of it right in front of me. As you can see the game was cancelled prematurely because they ran over budget - really wish it was released. This is an incredible find, seeing as this was done by an outside developer and most likely scrapped and deleted upon cancellation. [editline]a[/editline] Also, a lot of features from this alpha were used in the (second?) game. There are some features, such as ice-surfing, that made it into the final of the next. It looks like this one was a lot more ambitious then the next one, which was wayyyyy too short clocking in at two freakin' hours! [editline]a[/editline] While I am here, there was actually going to be a third game for Metru Nui using the same platforming. That never saw a release either, probably for the same issues. This actually isn't even the last alpha they made. There are multiple screenshots which show a 3D menu (similar to the next game) - these don't have developer options. [t]https://biosector01.com/w/images/bs01/9/99/BIONICLE_The_Legend_of_Mata_Nui_Main_Screen.png[/t] Furthermore, there was currency in the game at some point that isn't visible either, which could be spent on things in the pause menu which to my knowledge doesn't exist in that alpha
I was so excited for this to come out when I was 10, but it's been so long, my heart has moved on.
Oh god I've been waiting for this day for so long and it just so happens my computer died. :| EDIT: Anyone got it working on Windows 10?

I still remember being so stuck on that water village section because it wasnt finished yet :v: I'm really sad the sequel is so hard to get working.
According to comments, no one has
Correction. Apparently somebody has managed to get it working on Windows 10 via a Windows XP virtual machine. That is probably everyone's best bet if they want to play it. Also, the soundtrack has been released on soundcloud, as promised. I'm listening to it right now, and its quite good.
I still have the GBA game somewhere, never really knew the story but we had a sort of underground cock fighting thing going on in primary school where you'd have to claw the mask off your opponents Bionicle and if you did you got to keep it.

The first, Quest for the Toa, is probably the one your thinking of. There was also a (terrible) platformer called Matoran Adventures, a rather decent turn-based RPG called Maze of Shadows, based on the 2004 novel of the same name, and finally, a version of Bionicle Heroes that like the DS game was completely different and actually better than the console/PC version.
i remember the one i got free with breakfast cereal good times
Ah, it has finally happened. Never thought I would see the day. I'm disappointed there wasn't ever a really good bionicle game. The potential was so there but it just never happened. I always felt the ideas were ripe for and RPG.
I wanted this game so badly, and the physical orange Vahi mask it was supposed to come with. My disappointment upon hearing about its cancellation was palpable.
I remember having played a Bionicles adventure game where you played as a small character (one of the villager type bionicles?). Anyone know about such a game by chance? Think it was a bit buggy as some scrap kept disappearing from my inventory. Finally the game just disappeared altogether. This was way back in 2002-2005 I think.
Dude that buonicle adventure game was my shit back in the day.

Oh shit my childhood has returned. I always wanted an exo-toa set when I was a kid.

You played as Hahli and had to go to all the different villages performing menial tasks over and over again, instead of actually going on a big adventure and crossing paths with the Toa like in the first game.

Literally the only PC software I owned that used that CD format [editline]13th February 2018[/editline] Or was that another game?

http://www.bzpower.com/story.php?ID=839 You can literally Google "Bionicle mini CD" and find it that way. I still have a original mini CD from the first 6 Toa in plastic somewhere in my desk.
i always asume that bionicle being so big is some sort of internet inside joke of sort.
i always asume that bionicle being so big is some sort of internet inside joke of sort.
Yeah it's just a meme. IRL Galidor is the real thing.
Yeah it's just a meme. IRL Galidor is the real thing.
My brain hurts every time Galidor gets brought up.
Every time I look at my Galidor figures (or at least, the pieces I haven't lost that are now one figure), I feel a tad shameful as I could've asked for more Bionicles instead.
i always asume that bionicle being so big is some sort of internet inside joke of sort.
you missed out
you missed out
Idk. Never really saw Bionicles being "a thing" around here at the time. While they were sold and were avaliable, most of them went completely ignored and treated just as toys. I guess that lacking the huge amount of lore-building marketing these had in the us was caused that.
Galidor was cool u nerds
