It’s not just concept vehicles and press releases anymore. Mercedes-Benz revealed in detail today its plan to build electric vehicles in volume at 6 factories across 3 continents and a “global battery network” to support the effort. As we previously reported, Daimler has one of the most aggressive electrification plans amongst established automakers. They plan for Mercedes-Benz and smart cars to offer electric versions of all car models by 2022. ... Markus Schäfer, Member of the Divisional Board of Mercedes-Benz Cars, Production and Supply Chain, commented: “Our electric vehicles will be built in six plants on three continents. We address every market segment: from the smart fortwo seater, to the large SUV. The battery is the key component of e-mobility. As batteries are the heart of our electric vehicles we put a great emphasis on building them in our own factories. With our global battery network we are in an excellent position: As we are close to our vehicle plants we can ensure the optimal supply of production. In case of a short-term high demand in another part of the world our battery factories are also well prepared for export. The electric initiative of Mercedes-Benz Cars is right on track. Our global production network is ready for e-mobility. We are electrifying the future”.
https://electrek.co/2018/01/29/mercedes-benz-electric-vehicle-production-global-battery-network/
Whenever people use the word 'Aggressive' in regards to business it just makes me think of a Mercedes exec going "Aw yeah you fuckin' bitchass electric vehicle get sold"
let the electric vehicle age commence. I want one where I live; electricity is relatively cheap here.
this is a germany company so remember the cars wont pass the emissions test
this is a germany company so remember the cars wont pass the emissions test
Here I was thinking they were going to electrocute some monkeys/people for 'safety testing'.
Here I was thinking they were going to electrocute some monkeys/people for 'safety testing'.
wouldnt surprise me at all, after all they are going at it 'aggresively'
this is a germany company so remember the cars wont pass the emissions test
Customer: "Why does the EV has an exhaust and why does it vibrate while it's running?" Dealer: "It's for the look'n'feel." Customer: :speechless:
You're making an electric car so what do you do, you slap some stupid pointless lights on the front that waste power...
You're making an electric car so what do you do, you slap some stupid pointless lights on the front that waste power...
The thought process is understandably backwards but it can’t be denied that aesthetics is a major part in selling.
You're making an electric car so what do you do, you slap some stupid pointless lights on the front that waste power...
welcome to the future that lighting is insanely efficient compared to bulbs of 10+ years ago
Looks like merc is rushing war-factories, Tesla'd better get that weather dominator and earthquake machine done.
You're making an electric car so what do you do, you slap some stupid pointless lights on the front that waste power...
When you're comparing it to the energy it takes to power a 4000-5000lb car, those lights are completely negligible
Great, can't wait for 100k$ price per car!
Great, can't wait for 100k$ price per car!
Not to mention installing the electric motor (which will break) right under the battery section, but behind the substructure of the car, so when you need to do anything on the motor, you need to take the entire back-end off, because reasons (<Insert buzzwords like "space saving", "revolutionary", "weight balancing"). :tableflip:
You're making an electric car so what do you do, you slap some stupid pointless lights on the front that waste power...
Um excuse me, but we aren't going to get closer to this with that attitude mister.
welcome to the future that lighting is insanely efficient compared to bulbs of 10+ years ago
to offset this we need to put on as many lights as possible to match the power used by a few bulbs 10+ years ago
This is completely absurd. Why would you want the car to be noisier?
Because when you buy a sporty car, part of the appeal is hearing the noise of the engine when you open the pipes up a bit. The problem is that new advances in technology have allowed for some excellent materials to dampen the sound in the cabin and insulate it very well, but at the cost of 'dulling' the engine sound. As a result, car makers need to use these silly workarounds to pipe in the engine sound without allowing road noise to enter the cabin.
