We are truly sorry for getting everyone's hopes up and then delaying... again. We worked very hard to make December, but we are not yet ready. As a team, we take FULL responsibility for that. We have an internal deadline we are confident in, and we will be getting everyone more details as we get closer to that date. Thank you again to our community and Early Access supporters. The funding from Early Access has allowed us to hire many new talented developers, and has allowed older developers to put more time in the project. Simply put, Xen has proven to be an enormous undertaking, and while we are managing it to the best of our ability, it is proving to take longer than we estimated. The good news is that we will be releasing a large update in December to test all of the new features that have been developed for Xen. We have changed a number of things within the Source Engine, and we want to make sure they all work on the myriad of PCs out there. By enabling the new tech on the Earthbound section of the game, we can get the engine/code fully stabilized on Steam before we drop the final chapters.
New lighting effects that are coming in December: [t]https://i.imgur.com/iD48KBm.jpg[/t]
Hopefully they're toned down, or can be changed in the options menu. They look cool but are way too bright. [editline]24th November 2017[/editline] The rocket launch looks like something out of SFM
Like every time this happens with any game, I am not too frustrated because delays mean they have some standard they want to meet, not just push it out.
The silence on this had me thinking they'd probably delay again. No bother, I can wait a little longer
This getting a little ridiculous, we've been waiting years for this
at least this team doesn't use delays as an excuse to avoid communication [sp]unlike valve[/sp]
I'm getting Deja Vu.
The lighting effects look good, but I really hope they limit themselves on how often the lens flairs are used. I'd rather the game not look like a J.J. Abrams film with lens flairs on lens flairs.
This getting a little ridiculous, we've been waiting years for this
we've waited eight years from the original 2009 release date, for a project that's been in the works since 2004ish a few more months won't hurt

Give me more of that, and I'll be a happy camper. :speedfap:

Last time I commented on excessive bloom used by BMS (and videogames in general), I was told it was by design, that's how other games do it, and it isn't changing. At least I could simply turn off bloom, so hopefully that's also true for lens flare.
BLOOM and LENSFLARE are some of my least favorite effects DURING gameplay, but during these "pauses" that the examples are using I don't have any problems with it.
unlike valve, this team doesn't use delays as an excuse to avoid communication
The Black Mesa team actually wants to finish what they started, though. Valve led us on a multi-year wild goose chase for Episode 3 because they didn't want to admit that Steam, TF2, and Dota 2 killed their interest in anything other than games as a service. The people who run Valve are smarter than most corporate heads, because they know that double-speak and weasel words aren't going to fly. So they just don't say anything.

I can't stand excessive bloom. BMS has some bad bloom, especially with the scientists because when it's on their labcoats are glowing like crazy. Maybe it's just cuz I have light sensitive eyes, sometimes my eyes hurt just from a game doing a fade to white thing.

The JIRA leaks confirmed that Episode 3/Half-Life 3 was in the works until at least late 2013. The team actually grew slightly towards the end of the year, after DOTA 2 was finished. A fair portion of those employees are now working on other projects, but after seven+ years of development hell it's not like you could blame anyone for giving up on a project like that.
The rocket launch looks like something out of SFM
' And yet it's still dimmer than an actual nighttime rocket launch...

We're not getting a Half Life 3 because they simply don't feel like it.

Bear in mind, Episode 3 was originally just that - an episode. A tenth of your life being used on a project that's clearly not going to be completed isn't something a person will take lightly. If Episode 3 morphed into Half Life 3, adding more work to do, I don't think it's difficult to see why anyone would abandon the project to work on something different - VR, DOTA, or something we don't know about.

Combined with the dynamic lighting, it really adds another level to the experience if you ask me.

Valve really needs to stop dicking everyone around and just come out and say "We have no interest in making it" or whatever the reason is. People will be pissed, but they'll FINALLY have a real answer and will eventually get over it. Anyways, in regards to Xen, I'm happy to keep waiting if it means they get it right.
I saw "Black Mesa Xen leve" on the homepage and I almost had a heart attack. It's disappointing, but understandable.
They can take as long as they need. I'd rather it be delayed a year than come out a shitty mess. There's plenty of games to stave off my hunger in the meantime.
I'm just at least grateful that they aren't doing a Valve, leaving everyone in the dark and then abandoning it

It's deader than dead, and Gabe Newell still refuses to come out and say something. Just tell everyone "we blew it, sorry. Everybody who worked on Half Life is retired. All the new people want to work on VR and card games. It's to move on."
Is this the JJ Abrams and Valve collaboration I keep hearing about?
No. Plot Twist: That's actually Star Wars Epsiode 9. There's going to be cameos of a combine synth and a headcrab zombie in the cantina scene, ala Cabin in the Woods and Left4Dead. And Valve is going to be making the official tie-in video game after Disney snatches the exclusive Star Wars contract back from EA. [sp]It's a fucking card game[/sp]
On a serious note how fucking dope would it be to have an Alien Grunt in the background.
Remember when everyone joked about duke nukem taking forever? Now its hl3
Remember when everyone joked about duke nukem taking forever? Now its hl3
DNF was in development hell because the devs ran out of money. HL3 is in development hell because the devs have too much money.
I just want every light effect to be like flashlight from Battlefield 3 (and 4? Can't remember).
