• Plane diverted after 'suspicious conversation'
A plane flying from Slovenia to the UK made an unplanned landing after the pilot was alerted to a "suspicious conversation" with "terrorist content". Three British men arrested after the Easyjet flight from Ljubljana to Stansted, in Essex, was diverted to Germany's Cologne-Bonn airport on Saturday are being questioned. All 151 passengers were evacuated and flights were suspended for three hours. A backpack belonging to the men was blown up by police.

Dave Hargreaves, said: "In the flight I didn't see the suspects at all. But I noticed quite a bit of activity, with aircrew popping into the cockpit repeatedly. And a slower than normal serving of the food and drink service. "Then at our cruising altitude I was surprised to see the air brakes go up on the wings and us start a rather speedy descent. It wasn't until perhaps 10 minutes later that we were told 'due to operational reasons' we would be diverting to Cologne airport."

No explosives were found in the passengers' luggage or on the plane. The men are aged 31, 38 and 48, a Cologne police spokesman said. It is unclear if charges will be brought. The Bild newspaper said the men worked for a London firm and were returning from a business trip.
**SOURCE** It fucking feels like a scene from Harold and Kumar. I mean if they were drunk or loudly joking about it I can see that as a problem. Otherwise it just looks like another embarrassing jump of the gun with no results.
Imagine having a conversation with your mates not thinking much of it, suddenly your plane is balls to the wall descending to an airport you didn't intend to land at. You're forced off the plane and arrested, all flights are grounded for 3 hours, and your shit is blown up by the police. You'd probably rate Easyjet 1 star
How dare the captain make a decision not to risk the lives of 151 people.
Considering how much screening passengers and luggage on international flights go through it seems a bit paranoid to be making an emergency landing and arresting patrons over something you heard as part of some conversation.
Sounds like it was nothing but them being dumbasses if other passengers were worried enough to alert the crew. Pretty fair to be worried about this sort of thing in the current climate.
"We won't let terrorism win." uh-huh...sure looks like it's winning to me.

Maybe they were algebraic geometers talking about their work?
"We won't let terrorism win." uh-huh...sure looks like it's winning to me.
vigilance != letting the terrorists win. I'd much rather lose 3 hours over a potential bomb scare than 151 lives
A "suspicious conversation" with "terrorist content" could've been reading/discussing the news from UK a week/two weeks ago (not out of the way for people flying into the UK IMO)
I think it's funny that people are making fun of this and calling it a waste of time and alarmist, but then are pissed when we don't aggressively pursue people that are on watch lists before they commit a crime and then ultimately end up committing acts of terrorism like the Manchester guy. These are two sides to the exact same coin.
vigilance != letting the terrorists win. I'd much rather lose 3 hours over a potential bomb scare than 151 lives
Wasn't even a bomb scare. No one once said bomb. At least the article doesn't say anyone ever mentioned a bomb. Literally some guy was discussing terrorist activity (which be honest there has been quite a bit activity) and people assumed he himself was a terrorist and blew up his luggage. So this is the world we live in now. Terrorism is such a problem that you can't even read a headline while flying a plane. I'd say terrorism is winning.
I find it kinda hilarious that some people think three people who assumedly were gonna blow up the plane started talking about it loudly enough for others to pay attention to it
"Oy mate, which word wasn't I allowed to say again? 'Bomb' or 'remote detonator'? I just can't remember..."

It's just been a high-strung environment around airports and airplanes ever since 9/11. I always get strange looks when I was speaking in Arabic to family members and friends in airplanes, some old lady even complained to the hostesses that I should just be speaking English around two years ago. It's unfortunate, but nothing's really going to stop people from being fearful over nothing. Terrorism has sunk its claws deep into some peoples' minds, and nothing will make them ignore that lingering threat.
How dare the captain make a decision not to risk the lives of 151 people.
Yeah, make it sound general to avoid the stupid really
I hear isomorphism is highly radioactive.
It certainly gave me cancer.

This is up there with people getting questioned for doing maths in airplanes. Between this climate and anti-terror laws shitting all over our human rights it's become pretty clear that the terrorist have won.
