This high-performance hybrid is said to produce over 1,000 PS and reach top speeds beyond 350 km/h. The show car combines outstanding race track performance and day-to-day suitable Formula 1 hybrid technology with exemplary efficiency. This is a world first.
https://www.mercedes-benz.com/en/mercedes-benz/vehicles/mercedes-amg-project-one-formula-1-technology-for-the-road/ it reminds me of CLK-GTR, what do you guys think?
Looks like a copy of McLaren P1
Looks like a copy of McLaren P1
Reminds me more of the 918. Way too much actually.
If anything it's closer to a 911 GT1 [t]https://www.topgear.com/sites/default/files/styles/16x9_1280w/public/news-listicle/image/2016/03/1.jpg?itok=FJtnCfJV[/t]
The thing is, at this level of required performance, aerodynamic designs will look like many others. Aerodynamic efficiency is key here, not so much following the design trend of the automaker that produces it.
F1 car for the road? Erm.....someone in Stuttgart remind Merc's marketing department what F1 cars look like. This is more street legal LMP1 than F1. Hope Clarkson gets a hold of it for Grand Tour shenanigans.

It's actually much bigger than a modern prototype, but some lines are similar: [t]https://i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media/image/upload/s--Igx8uQxj--/c_scale,f_auto,fl_progressive,q_80,w_800/ryb2wokgre8fyiaezota.jpg[/t] [t]http://images.hgmsites.net/lrg/2014-lotus-lmp1_100469295_l.jpg[/t] [editline]13th September 2017[/editline]
F1 car for the road? Still, looks more like an LMP car than an F1 car.
Project LMPF1 wpuld have been more accurate.
This is the kind of hybrid technology I can get behind....
The new fad of making super cars hybrids, simply because 3.4 to 60 was too slow and the faction of a second between gear changes was too long to be without power is the fucking best.
Yeah, an Ariel Atom looks more like an F1 car than this.
Someone get me a performance hybrid Ariel Atom now. I would give my left nut for one.
It's only a "F1 car for the road" because it shares an F1 engine. Look at 3:05 for the mention. The most interesting bit is that these current engines are slightly over 50% in thermal efficiency. V8 gen cars were only achieving around 35%. Although I still will complain/rant about this until a the decision is made, but they (the car industry in general) should start to focus on efficiencies with fuels other than gasoline. Keep the ICE alive, just ween it off gas. Even if we develop 95% thermally efficient gas engines with like 300mpg, gas will eventually run out (some think 40-50yrs, others well over 100) and it will eventually out price itself from being convenient/practical.
Someone get me a performance hybrid Ariel Atom now. I would give my left nut for one.
The weight of batteries would probably be detrimental to the design but what do I know
Someone get me a performance hybrid Ariel Atom now. I would give my left nut for one.
Ariel is doing a fully electric one.
The weight of batteries would probably be detrimental to the design but what do I know
Well yeah, the Ariel Atom follows Colin Chapman's philosophy of "Adding power makes you faster on the straights. Subtracting weight makes you faster everywhere", which means keeping it as simple as possible and carefully balancing the whole car while keeping weight down. They're not meant to be speed demons on straight lines, rather taking tight curves at high speed without touching the brakes
