Nickelodeon has ordered 26 more episodes of the animated series featuring the underwater exploits of a sea sponge and his friends in Bikini Bottom, EW has learned. Season 12 is slated to premiere in 2019, which will be a big year for the show. It’s not only the 20th anniversary, it’s when the third SpongeBob movie will hit theaters. (The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie was released in 2004, while Sponge Out of Water hit theaters in 2015.) The No. 1-rated animated show among children 2-11 is currently in season 10; season 11 will debut later this summer. Doodle Bob, Bubble Buddy, Man Ray, and Cave SpongeBob are among the characters returning for that batch of 26 episodes.
Source
In other words, the sky is blue [sp] I mean it's still one of Nickoloden's biggest cashcows[/sp]

Let Spongebob die already. He's been through enough. [editline]27th May 2017[/editline] Wasn't Spongebob supposed to end after season 10?

I reckon Spongebob is only going to die when Nickelodeon itself is about to die even if it didn't get good ratings I think the idea of killing their 'flagship show' is so unthinkable they'd rather ride it to the network's death
Nickelodeon is going to follow Fox's tactics of milking Spongebob's corpse until no one likes it anymore.

Spongebob will only end when Nickelodeon stop seeing profits from it (many years away).
I'm legit curious what they'll do for the anniversary, though.

You guys realize that Nick literally has nothing else to offer to kids but Spongebob right? Nick is a terrible channel, at least Cartoon Network has a couple of hits but even then I wouldn't let my child watch either

This show has a lot in common with the Simpsons now

I'll be the first to say they don't have the best lineup, but they have Loud House. A cartoon that's actually pretty damn good and is so popular that it's outperformed Spongebob.
This show has a lot in common with the Simpsons now
When are we getting a Spongebob x Simpsons crossover?

I thought I had heard some of the old writers returned for newer episodes a while back, but from what I've offhandedly seen, episode quality is still about the same as it was for previous episodes after Season 3. I thought the old writers returning would've helped, but sadly not.
Spongebob would have to be purged from existence at this point, let alone "killed". If it goes on, the pain continues. If it ends, it goes the way of Rugrats in being used as filler at every opportunity, while following suite from The Simpsons in the lousy later season episodes getting priority. For the record, I never liked Spongebob. I was 20 when it started, which is most likely a factor in my disliking of it.

It wouldn't be the first one to die, either.

everyone always talks about spongebob being nick's flagship show and how it'd never die, but they've killed their other 'flagship shows' before rugrats was the icon for nick's and while they did try to keep that on the lifeline (rugrat's first ep was 11th august 1991, the last piece of related media iirc was all grown up which ended 17th august 2008, nearly exactly 17 years) after that, jimmy neutron was considered to be nick's flagship show (very much debatable, however) although it didn't run for nearly as much, only going for 4 years (and spongebob was basically nick's flagship show by the time they renewed it after the movie anyway)
If they wanna rake in more viewers they could possibly re-boot old shows people miss like Making Fiends, Kappa Mikey, My Life as a Teenage Robot, ect., but then again we all know how rebooting cartoons goes (Powerpuff Girls for example)
