Fire crews investigating after smoke seen from grate, explosion sounds heard in downtown Toronto

The cause of the incident hasn’t been determined, but a Toronto fire spokesperson said crews are investigating the possibility of a hydro transformer fire.

Toronto Fire Services said the building at 20 King St. W. is being evacuated.

Officers said there were no reports of injuries.

King Street West is closed between Yonge and York streets. The TTC said subways are currently bypassing King station.

Oh hey, that happened as I walked by today.

No panic though, the heavy rain fucked up a hydro vault underground. Nobody got hurt.

I saw it all at King Street and Yonge, apparently it was going on down to Bay street as well.

Transformer explosions are always cool to watch.

We had something similar happen here about two weeks ago. My UPS noticed the line voltage drop from way the hell across town.
