Details such as the reboot director, stars, and how the reboot would fit into the franchise narrative are being kept under wraps. But Martin Moszkowicz, chairman of the board at Constantin Film, did confirm to Variety at the Cannes Film Festival that a reboot is in development at the giant German production company, which owns rights to the franchise and has produced all of its installments. The franchise was set to end with this year’s “Resident Evil: The Final Chapter,” which grossed $312 million worldwide after its January release, including an eye-popping $160 million in China alone. Sony helped sow the seeds of success by securing a release for “Resident Evil: Afterlife” and “Resident Evil: Extinction” in China.
http://io9.gizmodo.com/report-resident-evil-is-getting-a-six-movie-reboot-1795413684
According to Moszkowicz, the goal is to milk six movies out of the deal, which is the same number as the original series. While it might sound sudden, it’s not really surprising they’d want to bring back this series. The original franchise brought in $1.2-billion worldwide, and it’s the highest-grossing film series based on a video game.
make it stop
endless trash
And of course, they'll avoid the opportunity to make it actually good, and just churn out the same old shit as the previous "hexalogy". And have nothing at all to do with the games. Fucking hell.
I reaaaally hoped it was over
I could write a better script for these movies than they have.
I kinda liked the first... and maybe the third
I could write a better script for these movies than they have.
I already made one, its in the toliet
I'm only interested if they at least try to stay loyal to the source material, but I guess it's too much to really ask. Guess it might not be so easy to make a compelling film about a group of people stuck in a mansion filled with the undead, and other creatures. Films based on games just aren't there yet still.
Rising from the dead, how meta.
The first movie was good, I really enjoyed it. Do that 6 times and I'll buy the box set
On the way to the hockey rink today I heard the commercials for "the final Resident Evil movie" hitting blu-ray and thought there's no way that's going to be true. Didn't expect to be proven right almost immediately.
Hollywood is going to crash at this stage. I know some people are quite alarmist about how the video game industry for example is going to crash (somehow). But new IPs are still being made all the time in the VG industry and the indie scene is very healthy. But I can't see the same thing in Hollywood. Consumers are eventually going to push back.
and it’s the highest-grossing film series based on a video game.
i mean is there any other video game series of movies with this many entry's? Of course it'd be the highest lol it's six movies. Anyways, if it's really a reboot with a different director and such then I'll wait to see who signs on. But it's probably gonna just be someone shit again because these things never work out
I cant understand this. Reboot the movie franchise, sure. I mean the previous one was complete shit. But 6 movies? Why not focus on making a single really good movie and then maybe take it from there. Movie planning like this is just horrible.
imagine if we could get alex garland to write and direct a movie based on the actual plot of the first game.

i see it like that: from now on, it can only get better. these films have the worst camera work for action scenes i've seen ... ever. remember that prick who sent that stroboscope-ish gif file via twitter to Kurt Eichenwald with the text "i hope you get a seizure"? could've just aswell sent him an action scene from any of the RE films instead.
This isn't borderline experimental.

That's how I imagine it, anyway.
I was excited to see the Final Chapter, knowing it would be the last movie and should be good. But no, it wasn't but I was still happy it was the final movie. Now? Depression
If it is a reboot and they do it in a different style I'm down for it. While most of the resident evil movies are hot garbage, i enjoyed the first two or three. The first two were good as resident evil movies after that I just looked at them as action movies with monsters. In that regard they where okay..but as resident evil they're mostly trash. So hopefully if it is rebooted right...it might have some potential.
I mean if they at least do something similar to the CGI films where the plot is at least half and loosely based on things that are sorta kinda from the games, the reboot would be alright in my book. But if they fuck it up and go back to "lol the world is totally fucked and there's nothing we can do and umbrella's still being dumb for no reason and also wow super action telekinesis girl" I don't care about what they try and do with it. Umbrella hasn't been the focal point of the game series in over a decade, I don't know why they felt the need to continue with them as enemies as long as they did. I mean fuck, I have my Resident Evil 5 Collector's Edition Tricell bag over in my closet as I type. They didn't bother putting Umbrella on the bag instead because Umbrella is hardly an important figure in the game's overall plot compared to Tricell. I've only finished RE4 a couple of times, I haven't looked at RE5's documents laying around the game since my first playthrough in 2009 (despite the 5 or 6 times I've played it), and I blocked RE6 from my memory after 1 and a half playthroughs, but I don't remember Umbrella being the supervillain company they're made out to be in the movies and Racoon-based games. I haven't played the RE7 DLC so I can't fully judge them in that because I'm missing info, but I still doubt they're a "the world is 99% zombies and desert, let's keep making everything shitty" company even in that.

Anderson will give up the only thing that's keeping his wife's acting career on life support, do you?
After how disappointing the fifth movie was, I just said fuck it (the directors clearly did :v:) and stopped bothering with them. I might consider watching the reboot series, but that's assuming it even grasps my attention at this point.
Can it at least be following Chris Redfield and Leon this time?
Never trust a movie that calls itself the last one.
Can they at least get someone competent behind the wheel this time? I mean, I enjoyed Death Race but pretty much everything else Paul WS Anderson has made is fucking wretched.
