Iranian state television presenter Azadeh Namdari has faced accusations of hypocrisy on social media after a video emerged showing her drinking beer and not wearing her hijab while on holiday in Switzerland.
Alcoholic drinks are banned in Islam and in Iran, where it is the law for women to wear the headscarf.
Namdari is known in Iran as a proponent of the Islamic dress code.
A photo of her in full hijab was once published in the conservative Iranian newspaper Vatan-e Emruz under the headline: "Thank God, I wear the veil".

In response to the revelations, Namdari published another video of herself in which she offered reasons for not wearing a hijab.
The two-minute long video was published by the hardline Young Journalists' Club (YJC) news agency under the headline "Azadeh Namdari's reaction to the publication of scandalous photos in cyberspace".
This time wearing a hijab, she explained she was sitting with family members and "maharem" - close relatives among whom a woman does not need to wear a hijab - in a park. She said her scarf fell suddenly and the video was taken at that instant by an unknown person.
She gave no explanation about drinking beer in the video.
What a hypocrite.
How embarrassing. But is she gonna get stoned now or whatever it is they do?
Is she even a Muslim though? I can't find anywhere where she says she is.
She may only wear the veil simply because it's law and support it as a political move.

seems legit
Wait, how do they know that's her? Isn't she normally wearing a veil?

Face covering veils are not required in Iran, just headscarfs. A Hijab is not necessarily a full body covering that everyone thinks it is. It can be a full on Burqa or just a scarf that partially covers your head.

Her response of "I was with family so a Hijab is not necessary" instead of "I'm not Muslim so I'm not required to wear one outside of Iran" kinda points to her being Muslim.

Well first of all she confirmed it :v:
As someone with relatives in Iran, I have to say this is very common.
In public you have to follow all these "religious rules" but once you are in the privacy of your home, off come the scarves and out comes the champagne.
There is a lot of worry there due to the secret religious police, however, which snoop around seeing if anyone is breaking the rules. In one case I recall, my relative had to bring her dog to the vet by hiding it in a cardboard box since dogs aren't quite allowed there (at least in that area) and it was known that the religious police shoot them on sight.
I wouldn't be surprised if the religious police had something to do with this
Just playing the part, must suck to have to live in a society like that.
Fuck this excuse. Not only is she "playing the part", she's advocating the shitty rule and making life miserable for other people by acting as a figurehead and saying "hey, I wear hijab and it's okay and women ought to wear hijab!". How many mothers, aunts, or relatives of young women buy into this woman's bullshit and force their daughters / relatives to wear hijab as a result?
Not only is she a hypocrite, she's a scumbag.

I wanted to mention this. A lot of people keep their heads down to avoid persecution, but screw this woman for outright pushing this narrative
reading more into this just makes me sick, she straight up promotes compulsory (no thanks!) islamic dress, whilst knowing full well that behind closed doors, she doesn't give a rats arse about it.
really gets you down when you realise how abhorrent a person has to be to potentially ruin other's lives to better their own. my best guess is she's playing the holy and religious part to garner support and wealth, when in actuality she doesn't believe in it one bit. which wouldn't really bug me, except for the fact other people are probably being shoehorned into ideologies and lifestyles they don't agree with due to the political and social media clout this woman carries.
Man, she's lucky the religious police weren't there on site to prevent her vile corruption and blatant breaking of the religious law, resulting in 20 standard whiplashes and a good shouting at from the elder leaders. Re-education will be applied now.
To be fair, I'm not even being entirely sarcastic. It's Iran, after all. Their leader wears a religious symbol on his head.

They weren't on site because we don't have religious police in Switzerland. Only people that force-feed you cheese if you fail to meet the quota.
Off with her head.

To me it says something about how ridiculous islam law is and just about how ridiculous people sound when they try to defend it
