Turkish schools to stop teaching evolution, official says
“We believe that these subjects are beyond their [students] comprehension,” said Durmuş in a video published on the education ministry’s website.
The subject of evolution in particular stirred debate earlier this year after Numan Kurtulmuş, the deputy prime minister, described the process as a theory that was both archaic and lacking sufficient evidence.
Reports in Turkish media in recent weeks, based on apparent leaks of school board meetings, have also predicted a diminished role in the curriculum for the study of Atatürk, and an increase in the hours devoted to studying religion.
Sorry if that's the whole article, I can't load the article with the internet I have
What a crying shame, Turkey's going completely backwards now.
Let turkey continue being a lesson in why you must never allow religion to influence politics.
They are completely sliding backwards now, it must be frightening to live there

Okay, I know that keeping a population stupid is the best way to subjugate them but it's usually a bit more subtle than this.

No, its often that hilariously direct.
For example, in Iran, when the government suddenly forced women to wear shawls, their reasoning was "womens hair emit radiation that naturally excite men, and must be covered"
You can make whatever up if your population is brainwashed
Can't say as I'm surprised at all. How better to subjugate your population than keeping them ignorant?
Turkey going back to the 1800s I see.
If these kids try to got to America for school they are gonna get fucked over because of this
Remember how they wanted to join the EU a few years back?
How long until they introduce the sharia law?

Never doubt a country can regress.
The veil gradually disappeared in the following decades, so much so that by 1958 an article by the United Press (UP) stated that "the veil is unknown here."[30] However, the veil has been having a resurgence since the 1970s, concomitant with the global revival of Muslim piety. According to The New York Times, as of 2007 about 90 percent of Egyptian women currently wear a headscarf.[31]
It's a shame countries are going further back to fundmentalism instead of secularism.
Of course, replace proven fact with some bullshit fairy tales enforced by bearded old cunts.
You might as well just lobotomise them.

Bit ironic I'd say.

Well visible light is electromagnetic radiation technically.
Coming up; Turkey to renounce all electrical, steam, nuclear and mechanized technology, shuts down national internet service, replaces the arms of all existing law enforcement and military units with swords, pikes, bows and crossbows.
Turkish President crowned king, declares war on all surrounding nations and begins to mobilize siege catapults and mounted cavalry.
This idea that science is the "anti-religion" of the modern world is the dumbest and most dangerously ignorant fucking bullshit I've seen in my life
It never ceases to amaze me as to how easy it is to destroy something, from something as simple as a tooth pick, all the way up to an entire country.

We live in a time where people in a developed first world nation believe vaccines give kids autism, we're flying by the seat of our pants here.

It's pretty curious how religion turned from being the safeguard for intellectuals into a bludgeon wielded by anti-intellectuals in the past couple of centuries.

I have to respectfully disagree with that actually, although I know what you are saying.
The more we advance in science has not made any(or not a considerable) difference in the numbers in religious people, this is true (for a couple of reasons).
However I think the more scientific minded people there are the FASTER religion will fall into non existence (if that ever happens).
"Science" is similar to any religion when it comes to it's SOCIAL impact. Many believe it without learning lots about it like any religion, however those that do can turn around and prove it to the others. It's a wonderful difference.
"Lacking sufficient evidence"
But... you believe...
You know what, just nevermind.
In my opinion, religion was a great tool for humanity, but once we hit a certain point in understanding the world around us, it became detrimental to us, and here's yet another case
