Swedish 'man-free' festival comes under fire from transgender groups
Swedish festival that describes itself as being "man-free" has been faced with questions over how it will enforce the unusual policy. Statement Festival was created by the comedian Emma Knyckare in response to reports of sexual assaults at other music festivals in the country.
She announced the event in a tweet, writing: "Sweden's first man-free rock festival will see the light next summer."
"In the coming days I'll bring together a solid group of talented organisers and project leaders to form the festival organisers, then you'll hear from everyone again when it's time to move forward," Ms Knyckare said.
She had previously suggested men should be barred from music festivals until they had "learned to behave."
But the festival has come under fire from users of Instagram, the photo-sharing social network, who claimed the policy was discriminatory against transgender people.
This is because the ban on men only applies to what Ms Knyckare described as "cisgender men", a term for a person whose gender identity corresponds to their sex assigned at birth.
One user angrily asked whether the ban extended to transgender men - people who are biologically female but identify as male.
Another wrote: "You have previously argued that transgender men know how it is to be vulnerable and oppressed, just like women, and should therefore be welcomed. What do you do with the rest of the men who are vulnerable and oppressed, then?"
The festival has responded by saying that transgender men and cisgender are "equally male" and that it was re-evaluating its gender policy.
Quite the pickle to be in.

Well if she wants to be consistent, the answer would be yes.

I'm pretty sure that's what they're doing already.
This whole thing is pretty amusing.
An event that banned men is discriminatory towards transgender people.
Rich.

What the hell does that even mean? Logic and reason flying over their heads.

whoops haha guess i never got the memo that, as a male, it is expected of me to sexually assault people as they think the majority of males do so.
no actually its not fuck you, youre just generalizing and im willing to bet the majority of guys dont. this is on par with punishing a whole class because of one bad student.
It's almost as if banning an entire sex from attending your event is sexist. Who knew?
How could you possibly put on an event like this and expect it to go smoothly without a hitch?
"All men are not rapists, but almost all rapes are carried out by men,"
So a man that commits a rape cannot ever be rapist. Your logic, amongst other things, needs to be re-evaluated.

Disregard this. I failed miserably and need coffee
I may be presuming too much but I'd suspect the same people that are calling for a a male-free music festival on grounds that a small minority of men are rapists are the same types that call people who are calling for restrictions on muslims on the basis that a small number are terrorists islamaphobes.

Yeah, it's basically the same as the keep out the immigrants/muslims/mexicans/etc. logic. I can only assume that Tudd is posting this thread because he approves of the arrangement.

So does your reading comprehension.

They worded it awkwardly but what they meant was "not all men are rapists, but almost all rapists are men".

Apologies. Looks like I made a mistake. I retract my statement.
And coincidentally, a certain Swedish person should consider doing the same thing.
Maybe this is Déjà vu but I feel like this has happened before

This is the second time around this manufactured outrage has come around on the news is probably why.

Aye. The festival was first announced mid-July-ish, earlier this year.

I'm still disappointed "man-free" doesn't in this case mean "everything controlled by an AI"
I love how sexism only exists when males are doing it towards females, kinda like how white people are the only ones capable of being racist :v:
While that's not true, which is ofcourse your point, historical context kinda matters.
Emma Knyckare is a fucking hack.

more like Emma Hycklare lmao
I find this whole thing really dumb, honestly. A concert where the performers are all women is one thing, but why restrict men from experiencing it? Men might commit rape (using 'non-consensual sex' including being forced to penetrate as the definition of rape, rather than just penetration) at a higher rate than women, but there are many men who have been raped and many women who have committed rape. To make a womens-only event based on statistics is somewhat foolish, imo. Having segregated events like this seems antithetical to the idea of liberalism that European countries have been building upon for the past century.
When can I go?
