• Steam UI refresh still happening, according to product designer Alden Kroll at Valve
Last year, a mock-up of a new Steam interface appeared in a client update and was quickly removed. We still don't know if the image represents anything real—it's just an image—but we did learn later from a Valve presentation that some kind of Steam UI refresh is in the works. And it's still in the works, says Valve's Alden Kroll. In a Twitter thread about an upcoming Valve presentation in Milan, Kroll was asked if the UI update is still happening. "Yes: We're still working on it :)," he said. Kroll then responded to a second question to confirm that the option to mute Curators is a feature being worked on.
http://www.pcgamer.com/that-steam-ui-update-is-still-happening/
One of the few things Valve is actually still working on, I imagine.
I have a feeling people will hate the new UI (as it happens with everything new), then people will grow to like it unless they removed some features because of any sort of oversight. I hope it's not anything like the mockup, though, having 6 different tabs for different kinds of content that I bought would get annoying, all in one place feels better and Steam already sorts out games, vr stuff and software on the library tab.
Give me an in-game browser that actually works please.
I hope it's not anything like the mockup, though, having 6 different tabs for different kinds of content that I bought would get annoying,
What? There is so much room in that line in the UI, it's the best they just divide it so you need to click one or two times less, rather than hiding the navigation behind other menues.

Something like Library > buttons with the types of content I bought that spread after clicking it would be better, even if it's an extra click.
Hope it doesn't have these dumb circular avatars that every nowadays has
One of the few things Valve is actually still working on, I imagine.
Nah, There's still a few people working on TF2 and other projects. However, They just need another project day that kickstarted P2.
Hope it doesn't have these dumb circular avatars that every nowadays has
I'm 100% sure it will have them.
Doesn't discord save the full picture but just show the circle
Doesn't discord save the full picture but just show the circle
literally every sane ui design that uses circle avatars does that although this is valve we are talking about...
Doesn't discord save the full picture but just show the circle
What round image formats do you know of?
What round image formats do you know of?
ask that to people concerned about it causing conflict with ingame squares
And when it comes it has the design of a UI from 2012, when they first started working on it so it's outdated the moment they release it :v:
Nah, There's still a few people working on TF2 and other projects. The way those VNN and other videos described it, it sounded really fascinating to me.
Give me an in-game browser that actually works please.
One of the reasons it sucks so much ass right now is that it’s literally just Internet Explorer Edit: Apparently it's been moved to Chromium now, must've been a really, really long time ago since it was based on IE
We're still working on HL3, everyone, it's in the works. :) I don't trust Valve when they say "we're doing x and y" and show nothing, anymore. Same with those VR games they were working on.
One of the reasons it sucks so much ass right now is that it’s literally just Internet Explorer
It's not chromium based like the rest of steam?
One of the reasons it sucks so much ass right now is that it’s literally just Internet Explorer
I'm fairly sure it's a modified Chormium; I remember reading that somewhere. [editline]9th January 2018[/editline]
It's not cromium based like the rest of steam?
Ohey
One of the reasons it sucks so much ass right now is that it’s literally just Internet Explorer
I think it's actually a poor webkit implementation
Steam UI refresh still happening
That might never happen... I mean we already have this (posted March 4, 2015):
Valve announced the Source 2 engine, the successor to the Source engine used in Valve's games since the launch of Counter-Strike: Source and Half-Life 2. "The value of a platform like the PC is how much it increases the productivity of those who use the platform. With Source 2, our focus is increasing creator productivity. Given how important user generated content is becoming, Source 2 is designed not for just the professional developer, but enabling gamers themselves to participate in the creation and development of their favorite games," said Valve's Jay Stelly. "We will be making Source 2 available for free to content developers. This combined with recent announcements by Epic and Unity will help continue the PCs dominance as the premiere content authoring platform." Also as part of supporting PC gaming, Valve announced that it will be releasing a Vulkan-compatible version of the Source 2 engine. Vulkan is a cross-platform, cross-vendor 3D graphics API that allows game developers to get the most out of the latest graphics hardware, and ensures hardware developers that there is a consistent, low overhead method of taking advantage of products. Vulkan, previously called Next Generation OpenGL, is administered by the Khronos Group, along with other standards such as OpenCL, OpenGL, and WebGL.
Unless they tell us the release date, there is no point in waiting for something from Valve.
The whole UI just feels so lackluster and at times, broken. Not to mention how easy it is to exploit (See CS:GO in-game ads) And the steam mobile apps sucks so much
That might never happen... I mean we already have this (posted March 4, 2015): Unless they tell us the release date, there is no point in waiting for something from Valve.
Steam is really big for Valve, it's probably a priority for them
We're still working on HL3, everyone, it's in the works. :) I don't trust Valve when they say "we're doing x and y" and show nothing, anymore. Same with those VR games they were working on.
Valve has never made a single statement like that anywhere about HL3.
please re-design big picture so you don't need to go trough 2 or 3 different menus just to do something.
Valve has never made a single statement like that anywhere about HL3.
He's alluding to Valve Time and things said by Valve that haven't happened yet.
Every UI element is out dated. Not only that but every single feature from curators to the market to steam broadcast to big picture to it's mobile app to it's literally everything is outdated shit. For one I'm extremely tired of the Store and community being shared as if it was a single browser. I want the Store and community tabs to be completely separate.
Steam is really big for Valve, it's probably a priority for them
It's a priority to make sure it functionally works. Steam gets updates fairly frequently but they're just bug fixes.
At least make Pixelvision as one of the vanilla skins.
