The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has officially announced next year's inductees: Bon Jovi, Dire Straits, the Moody Blues, the Cars and Nina Simone will all join the class of 2018. Sister Rosetta Tharpe will be given an Early Influence award. The induction will be held at Cleveland's Public Hall on April 14th, 2018. An edited version will air later on HBO and there will be a radio broadcast on SiriusXM. Ticket details will be announced in the near future. Artists are eligible for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25 years after the release of their first album or single. Radiohead was the only act on this year's ballot in their first year of eligibility, but they didn't make it in. Bon Jovi is the only act in the class to have started after the 1970s.
Rolling Stone
Holy shit all actual rock stars(varies).
Bon Jovi
glad to see the cars are getting some love now though [editline]13th December 2017[/editline]
Bon Jovi
I literally cannot stand Bon Jovi, the fucking cheese that oozes out of his music is literally sickening.
Excited about Nina Simone
Bon Jovi should just be called Ritchie Sambora because that's all I care for in that band. Seriously, the dude is an underrated as hell guitar player in a shittily overrated band. [editline]13th December 2017[/editline] Mark Knopfler is also an excellent guitarist, I think he's totally fingerstyle if not mostly.
I can't believe fucking Bon Jovi got in and not the MC5. God, arena rock fucking sucks.
These replies are making me depressed because I actually love Bon Jovi. :frown:
Holy shit all actual rock stars(varies).
Ever since Dave Grohl took over, the nominees have improved. I think he got Pearl Jam inducted last year

Never found any of his music good. Hate when they play living on a prayer (sorry was thinking of another song.) fuck's sake bon jovi over judas priest judas priest helped to evolve a fledgling genre during its earliest days in the '70s when it was contemporary to motorhead, budgie, and black fucking sabbath bon jovi had three songs anyone still listens to and most of them are from one album that is about as shameless as glam metal gets with none of the flair that made meritorious glam metal bands worth the time
Judas Priest was let out in favor of Bon Jovi. Whoever made this decision needs to be named and shamed.
Bon Jovi is New Jersey's gift to the world and you all are just cretins who live in the dark, screeching at his beautiful, glorious light.
Yup. Never found any of his music good. Hate when they play that stupid song "tremble like a flooooowwweeer" on the rock station here...
Is this an obscure reference I'm missing or??? Anyway, Bon Jovi deserves to be a Hall of Famer but not to be chosen over other greats. He's great, but he's definitely not better than Judas Priest or many other bands who may have been sidelined for him.
Let’s face it, this is the main reason Dire Straits got in
Aside from the Bon Jovi thing, I'm fucking surprised that it took them this long for The Moody Blues to be inducted. Like holy shit I thought they got in along time ago not in this decade.
Let’s face it, this is the main reason Dire Straits got in
It probably is but Dire Straits is an awesome band with tons of great music. Money for Nothing is everyone's favorite Straits song but they really rock.
Let’s face it, this is the main reason Dire Straits got in
I like how everyone (that I know at least) think it's a ZZ Top song because of the opening riff and guitar throughout the song.
Let’s face it, this is the main reason Dire Straits got in -money for nothing-
Come on man
Mooby blues got in holy shit
...no Judas Priest or Iron Maiden? Again????
The Cars really deserve it
The Cars really deserve it
I did enjoy their video where they got in a cock rocket, blew up 4 chicks, a sexbot, and then hook up with aliens. Warning: NSFW Ship docking
...no Judas Priest or Iron Maiden? Again????
It's a shame. I got to see Maiden back in July and they're still rocking
The Moody Blues were a long time coming.
Bon Jovi
Actually it's totally appropriate that a literal for-profit-only shill machine where two people in the band basically abuse the shit out of their bandmates and own all the rights and royalties make it in during the tenure of the most openly greedy and malicious president ever. A decade from now cultural observers will prolly mark this as a sign of the times. [editline]13th December 2017[/editline]
Let’s face it, this is the main reason Dire Straits got in
Pretty sure it has more to do with making catchy as fuck yet surprisingly deep music for thirty years and touring almost just as long.
Does anybody really take the R&R Hall of Fame seriously anymore? It's been proven time and time again that the nominators will routinely ignore the wishes of the general public and choose artists that will create more publicity -- or simply artists that they themselves like -- over artists who are more deserving of recognition for shaping the genre. It's why King Crimson will probably never receive an induction while Rush, Genesis, and Yes get in, despite the fact that, arguably, all three bands wouldn't have gotten to where they were without King Crimson, who essentially created progressive rock as we know it today. Or why Brian Eno still hasn't gotten any recognition for producing albums for 3 of the inductees (Talking Heads, David Bowie, and U2), being a major figure in helping shape and popularize (and name) the ambient genre, and overall having been directly involved with so many artists over his career that it's hard to find a band that can't be linked to him somehow. But no, let's ignore all that and induct the artists that really matter, like Guns N' Roses, Journey, and Bon Jovi.
It's why King Crimson will probably never receive an induction while Rush, Genesis, and Yes get in
The only place Genesis belongs is a fucking bin.

Bon Jovi is like Nickelback-tier rock. Don't know the others, to be honest
