A social media celebrity got an unpleasant surprise Friday when his car was surrounded by police with guns drawn at him.
However, this is not the first time the man known online as “Ice Poseidon” has experienced the phenomenon people are calling another “swatting,” a prank intended to draw law enforcement to a particular person or location after a threat or false report of violence has been made. Naturally, he caught it all on tape.
In this instance, police believed the men were involved in a robbery. They were taken into custody, but police said no crime had been committed.

Ice made a statement that the cops are holding onto this camera equipment ($7k+), and will keep for more than a week as part of an ongoing investigation. Just 2 days before he flys to Europe.
Again?
Wonder what the claim was this time...

Can we please stop validating this retarded nonsense by calling it a 'prank'?
Call it what it is. A crime.
Hopefully whoever did it gets caught, but I think he really needs to think if this is worth it at the moment. This will probably keep happening, and he lost all of his twitch income when he could have just kept playing games and probably been doing just fine. Regardless it's pretty shit he can't stream because dicks think it's hilarious to call the cops on people not doing anything
I find it really weird that you can legit call an entire swat brigade on someone just by giving a vague anonymous tip.
Has any streamer outside of America ever been swatted like this?
That guy just can't catch a break.

He's been making bank since he started doing YouTube (funnily enough earlier in the stream he showed off his bank acc with 43k in it) but man this sucks that the cops took his camera equipment so close to the Europe streams I've been looking forward to.

Oh yeah not sure why it escaped me that he could just use streamlabs on youtube. Still personally I'd get pretty tired of streaming IRL pretty quick if I was getting swatted this often
What teenage asshole thinks this is funny? They waste the polices time, they block a road for working citizens, and they put someone's life in danger because they think it's a funny prank. The only person that laughs at these are the people who call it in.
I don't ever watch his streams but I hope the guy that called gets the maximum.
This will only get him more viewers.
ice poseidon has this horrible habit of tempting his viewers to do the worst to him, at which point they do and promptly fuck up his day
Wasn't this the same guy that got swatted on a plane a few weeks ago?
He keeps on telling people where he is and messing with people at the same time. It's a part of his schtick to get attention and viewer money.

So because you don't like his personality he needs to held accountable for someone else commiting a crime?

Even if he doesn't tell his viewers where he's at people still find him. It's really really simple to track his location.
So because you don't like his personality he needs to held accountable for someone else commiting a crime?
If you go around constantly calling out your current location and other personal information live to a big chatroom of people, while also messing with people, you're absolutely asking for it. There's a reason there's rules on sites like Twitch to prohibit this, which is why he got banned from Twitch after getting swatted on a plane.
That's not to say I condone swatting or that anyone deserves it. But thanks for putting those words in my mouth. I don't remember saying I hated his personality, either.

While swatting is a crime, Ice has time and time again proven he is profiting of swatting, doing barely anything to prevent them.
This one is a great example, he took his camera gear out with him, when he was told to get out of the car. Who in their right mind would take a big black camera on a stick setup out with him in that situation?
He didn't turn it off either when he knew what was going one, to discourage this.
It makes him more views and money.
Lets not forget the airplane incident, where he basically tempted his viewers to swat him by giving out his gate/plane.
I can see him end up being shot if he continues that shit.

If 4chan can find a flag in the middle of nowhere in mere hours it'd be especially trivial for swatters to find out where he is especially because he spends so much time in very open public locations in cities.

I doubt it. A lot of places don't even have a SWAT equivalent. And they certainly don't come blowing up your door with batmobiles (minimum of 75 flashing lights with 50 flash patterns) and helicopters hovering above based on a single phone call.
It's different in america because so many people have guns and crazy high crime rates in general.

What the fuck is that supposed to mean? How does somebody even get the idea of swatting somebody and how do you tempt someone do to that? If I see someones gate/plane, I certainly do not think about reporting them as a terrorist, I'd rather just check their flight on Flightradar and see how their flight went.
Given his history Ice knows that people are going to fuck with him if he gives out his information like that, it's never a good idea to publicly broadcast specific information on your location online if you're someone of slight fame because people are fucked up.
Not for nothing, but when is he gonna learn his lesson? As fucked up as this is, what does he expect when he openly lets people know his current location on a livestream? He's dealt with this kind of stuff like a dozen times before, when will he call it quits?

Just to clarify, at this time in his streaming history he already got swatted before.
He should know what to not say on stream, yet he likes to do it.

Twitch streams, particularly the largest ones, have a history of being swatted due to how much personal info they let loose and the immediate attention the incident will get due to the live exposure. Swatting isn't new or novel, it's been going on on livestreaming sites for years now. Ice is especially noteworthy when it comes to this because he's so incredibly loose with his personal info included the names of himself, his family members, where he lives down to the fucking address, his previous places of work, etc. etc. and has one of the most caustic, racist, toxic, and all-around shittiest communities I've ever seen an internet personality have. Between that and going out in public and literally inviting people to SWAT him by acknowledging the possibility as he gave out the flight number for his flight to Austin you can see how Ice provokes this sort of activity.
I don't think he does it intentionally but to say that he doesn't profit off of it is naive at best. Most of his publicity has been due to small snippets of streams where he gets attacked, assaulted, swatted, or does something else stupid/personally endangering getting posted on youtube and reddit. Without these incidents Ice would be a much, much smaller streamer. It's also possibly noteworthy to mention that one of the reasons he was on such thin ice (heh) with twitch was because of the rampant racism in his community that he made little effort to halt. He's pretty terrible at managing his community, as opposed to someone like Forsen.
This guy needs to fucking stop before he gets killed.
Whether he profits from not, I say the fact he's getting swatted is helping us all by exposing how easy way this is to do damage to someone and what needs to be fixed.
He's not doing absolutely anything 'wrong' to deserve this after all. Sure, a normal person would take measures to stop becoming a target for swatting but this goes to show that there has to be some kind of protections for individuals.
The issue is he has enough individual exposure as a public figure to draw shit like this, but not celebrity tier income for security guards and cooperation with the police to prevent dumb shit from happening. It's a fairly interesting issue thats being directly caused with easy information access that exists these days, highlights how unequal shit can get when it comes to law enforcement and how much your income is.
He went to every police team in LA to warn them and things have been perfectly fine since. This happened because he didn't take the right precautions in the town he was at, probably because of laziness and his naive hope that he could for one day leave LA and not have shit hit the fan.
He needs to just accept that he needs to regulate how he live streams more with the large audience that he has. It goes against his style of doing things on the fly and not worrying about things, so it's no surprise he's a constant target to this shit.
He's also going to Europe to live stream on tuesday. So that in itself is another huge risk, but that's just who he is.

It annoyed me so much, who in their right fucking mind exits a vehicle when police are pointing guns at them with a god damn item in their hand. Is he honestly that fucking stupid? If that were any sane and normal person in his shoes, they'd have dropped their phone / camera so god damn quick, and slowly gotten out the car. But you can see him shitting himself, looking at the camera, and somewhere in his dumb little rat face, his brain things "actually no this is a cash cow I'll risk my life, and the potential emotional distress of officers, by taking my camera with me to try and film it".
Guy needs to be barred from all forms of streaming, he's shown time and again he is an idiot and doesn't deserve it.
