The former Deputy Tax Commissioner Michael Cranston was allegedly heard in intercepted phone calls, warning his son Adam that he was at "high risk" as investigators prepared to make arrests in a major tax fraud investigation.
Transcripts of the phone calls were tendered to the New South Wales Supreme Court, where the AFP has been seeking details about Adam Cranston's financial affairs.
Michael Cranston, who resigned from his position last week, allegedly told his son what tactics investigators would use if the case ever came before a "f**king judge."
"They won't get you criminal, it's civil," he told him, but suggested "they'll have a crack".
Adam Cranston and his sister Lauren were among 10 people charged last month, in connection with an alleged fraud worth $144 million.
It is alleged the syndicate used a series of companies to skim tax from payroll, that should have gone to the Commonwealth.
Was that picture of him stretched or something? I swear he looks unusually wide in it, like in that picture of Superman in the animated series.
fuck me he looks like stretch armstrong
Hopefully when they nail him those cars get auctioned off to good homes and not crushed or something like that.
im betting they'll get crushed

Car crushing is the stupidest fucking thing in the world. I understand it for most mass produced vehicles but there are cars that are crushed all the time that have absolutely no business being crushed, and that people would love to still own.

It's called writing off assets. Normally you can get more written off for tax purposes if you destroy it than if you were to auction it.

That's so soulless.

cant you just sell it and then destroy the money
But that's an original Ford GT40 (i think, could be a replica), they can't destroy something this beautiful.

Business Insider is saying that the cars a replica, whew, thats a bullet dodged if they do crush it, but there are conflicting sources (mostly tabloids) that say its a real GT40
https://www.businessinsider.com.au/the-afp-is-trying-to-find-this-long-list-luxury-cars-connected-to-the-alleged-165-million-tax-fraud-syndicate-2017-5
In the case that the GT40 is real, they'll probably make more money off of auctioning it off then they'd lose from the lost write-offs, since the last auctioned GT40 sold for $11,000,000.

There's similar issues with the railroad and other transportation services.
Let's say a train is blown off the tracks (it happens more often than you'd think) and it was carrying a butt-load of high-end 4K TVs.
Even if by some miracle the TVs made it out ok and are perfectly fine, odds are they're going to be destroyed/taken to the dump purely for insurance reasons. It makes no sense to me, but that's how it is.

The destruction isn't the point, if you destroy the thing in sake of your taxes you can get away with claiming the thing was worth as much as you bought it for. If you auction it off, the auction determines how much is it worth (usually less) and since it's money you owe in taxes anyway, you won't see any of it and since you are a jaded, antisocial piece of shit, guess what's the only metric you care about?

so if you live near the freight lines, raid the dump every so often?
so if you live near the freight lines, raid the dump every so often?
Every winter there's a few good accidents where a truck will dump a load of lumber or something. Usually its hauled off and with lumber especially if it's going to be too expensive to recover they leave it there, then its usually up to the scant few who are insane enough for example to scale a 150 foot drop over a steep embankment and winch back up a dozen 2x4's.
Then there's the other freight companies who will keep the accident where it is under the watch of a private security service until they can ship in a crew to salvage everything possible, THEN let highway maintenance drag off the wreck and reopen the highway.

Welcome to modern capitalism. I've had to destroy hundreds of thousands of dollars in products simply because it was either not as described on the packaging or simply, the product was not selling and the distributor wanted it gone.
It's often clearly not the "best" way, but it all comes down to shaving pennies.
so if you live near the freight lines, raid the dump every so often?
Nope. Odds are they'll hit them with a hammer (in the case of TVs) to ensure that they're destroyed. As for the dump, at least here, nobody is allowed to take anything from there. They try to make sure to direct you to dump in an area that's currently being worked on, so pretty much as soon as you dump (and the levels get high enough), it's immediately buried. On top of that, because of where they direct you to dump, there's guaranteed to be workers watching you.

Had better fucking not, that's a ford GT for fucks sake. I'm pretty sure the good church of ford australia would overthrow the australian state for that.
