A shooting was reported Wednesday near a Congressional baseball game practice field.
A reporter from the Huffington Post tweeted that a congressman said he "heard there was a shooting at the Congressional baseball game practice field."
ABC 7 News reported "multiple shooting" in the 400 block of E. Monroe Street.
The suspected is "believed in custody," ABC reported, according to Alexandria police.
A reporter from Fox News tweeted that staffers were hit.
Right now, we're secure," Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Ala.) told CNN Wednesday morning.
Brooks said "at least five" people were shot, his voice breaking.

Brooks said Scalise was shot in the hip and was "dragging his body" to get away from the shooter.
Brooks also said he helped two shooting victims, applying a tourniquet to one unidentified staffer.
"You're pretty helpless," he added.
Brooks said the gunman had a semi-automatic rifle and stood behind a dugout.

"He appeared to be a white male," Brooks said, adding that he only saw the gunman for a fraction of a second.
White House press secretary Sean Spicer said both President Trump and Vice President Pence are aware of the “developing situation in Virginia.”
“Our thoughts and prayers are with all affected,” he tweeted.
A congressman was shot in the hip and expected to survive. The target was a GOP softball practice.
Steve Scalise, House Majority Whip, according to BBC.
Not good.
To brazenly attack a politician at softball practice is a statement.
I can only imagine that this is politically motivated. The political divide is nearly reaching the level of public health crisis at this point if this is the case.
This is not going to be good, witch hunts for the motivation are going to be rampant.
This is a terrorist attack

Hopefully no-one dies. With 50 shots though that could have been a massacre.

This sort of thing makes me happy to see. Hope it shows that both parties can actually get along over something. Hopefully no one politicizes this shooting. But as I speak I'm sure the crazies are trolling up a storm

If there's one thing history has taught me, people will politicize it. It's almost a fact of life now.
Sounds like zero fatalities which is fantastic news.

They fucked up going after a member of Congressional leadership who has police protection
Fox reporting 2 cops also wounded.
Status of the gunman is up the air, some reporting dead some reporting in custody(police will cuff a corpse tho so who knows :v:)

This will almost certainly be politicized. The president might even be the one to do it!

It has to be. It's too well worded and free of slant

is this what you guys worry and scheme about when a politically motivated attempted killing, and potentially mass shooting happens?
people got shot and the thread is just gonna get shit up with "bcuz turnip didnt say somethin stupid it wuznt him it wuz some1 else :downs: "
you have problems.

Can't say I'll be surprised if this was an attack targeted at the GOO, with the party's recent actions it's no wonder there are angry people willing to lash out. I wouldn't be surprised if more shit like this crops up on either side of the political spectrum.
I hope to see an article from Paul Krugman, in the NYT, like the one he wrote when Gabrielle Giffords was shot, though I doubt it will happen. Here it is for anyone interested: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/01/10/opinion/10krugman.html
It's especially ironic because Krugman specifically says, "Listen to Rachel Maddow or Keith Olbermann, and you’ll hear a lot of caustic remarks and mockery aimed at Republicans. But you won’t hear jokes about shooting government officials or beheading a journalist at The Washington Post," while the NYT just helped sponsor a play where Trump is put into the role of Julius Caesar and assassinated along with Kathy Griffin's image of Trump's decapitated head.

It's just a conversation. Who's scheming? Touchy or what?

Well the last time we had a violent attack in the news Trump decided to smear the mayor of London and insist that his travel ban would have solved the problem. Is it weird to suggest that he will do it again?

It is possible to have more than one thought at a time, you know.

Thanks, I guess.
Perhaps I'm wrong, not like I can actually know. It's just not a tone consistent with his usual twitter feed, and the accounts being monitored by his staff lately.
A gunman opened fire on Republican members of the U.S. Congress during a baseball practice near Washington on Wednesday, wounding several people including senior Republican leader Steve Scalise, before he was taken into custody, police and witnesses said.
Five people were transported medically from the scene in Alexandria, city Police Chief Michael Brown told reporters. Two of the wounded were Capitol Hill police who were at the scene, witnesses said.
Scalise's office said he was in stable condition and undergoing surgery. President Donald Trump said in a tweet that Scalise was "badly injured but will fully recover."
Scalise, a representative from Louisiana, is the House of Representatives Majority Whip, making him the third-highest ranked member of the Republican leadership in the House.
In a dramatic account of the shooting, Representative Mo Brooks of Alabama said the shooter, who appeared to be a white man, was armed with a rifle.
Brooks told CNN he saw the man only for a second, and that he was shooting from a chain link fence behind the third base position on the field.
"There must have been 50 to 100 shots fired ... I hear Steve Scalise over near second base scream. He was shot," said Brooks, adding he helped apply a tourniquet with his belt to a congressional staffer who was shot in the leg.
Appears to be aimed at Republicans.
Regardless of your politics this is frightening if it continues that extreme elements do blows to each other. Just like Antifa and the Free Speech rallies, the normalization and escalation of violence used can be a short road.

Yeah Trump should probably stop going out of his way to rile up liberals too.
So you are blaming Trump for other GOP republicans being shot while playing baseball?
Nope! But Trump is a republican and the President reflects upon the party as a whole.
