Footage of an incident leaked online on Tuesday shows accidental rocket fire from a Russian strike helicopter hitting close to parked cars. The Russian military denied earlier reports on social media that the incident happened during the ongoing Zapad war games. The footage shows two Ka-52 helicopters approaching a group of several cars. One of the helicopters then fires a rocket at a nearby object. The Russian military denied claims on social media, which said that the incident happened during the ongoing Zapad drills and resulted in several casualties. The footage shows the actual incident, but it happened during another exercise, according to the public relations department of Russia’s Western Military District.
https://www.rt.com/news/403780-zapad-helicopter-error-strike/ http://www.reuters.com/article/us-russia-nato-wargames-incident/helicopter-mistakenly-fires-on-parked-vehicles-in-russia-war-games-media-idUSKCN1BU1JQ?il=0 [B]"POPALI! Someone should get ready for their court martial.
Oh shit that video from the ground is scary as fuck
Someone should get ready for their court martial.
I'm honestly starting to think they were going for a target behind the impact area or purposefully trying to shoot overhead. Mixed terrain like that can fuck with CCIP (Computer Calculated Impact Point) systems, you REALLY got to pay attention for shit like that.

(that's right of the videos perspective)
when you're aiming rockets or other weapons that dont have any stabilization and just fire towards where the vehicle is pointing, even the tiniest bit of turbulence or a strong wind can change your aim by a degree or two and make you shoot lower, which looks like what happened here
It seemed like they wanted to shoot over the parked vehicles and cameras but for a split second, it targeted the vehicle parked on the left.
That's pretty much what I'm saying, but these were dumb fire rockets. Likely S8s because that guy at the site apparently lived, if it was the big S13s he and the camera man would of gotten fucked by shrapnel. The pipper was above the launch site prior to launch with it flickering to and from, it's a very serious concern when engaging stuff in mixed terrain like that.
rip that dude standing next to the truck
Holy fucking shit, how does something like that even happen? "Lets fire live munitions close to friendlies! What could possibly go wrong?" That guy close to the blast is pretty much fucked. Even if he survived, being that close to explosions like that means permanent injury. Hearing loss in at the absolute minimum.

god I thought those shreds were the dude, but he's still standing upright til the camera moves away [t]https://i.imgur.com/OtQM6Ae.png[/t]

RIP that guy's hearing. I imagine with that db level eventually he would have at least some hearing return. Honestly floored if that guy walked away in one piece.

Even the noise level of helicopters flying that low over you leads to permanent hearing damage after just minutes of exposure.
When you're standing that close to an explosion the db doesn't matter, you're dealing with the air pressure.
Good thing his two ton balls got in the way of the blast or he'd surely be a goner.
Good thing his two ton balls got in the way of the blast or he'd surely be a goner.
I mean, it's not really a case of balls when its something that happens by accident.
I mean, it's not really a case of balls when its something that happens by accident.
The guy filming hits the dirt and the guy who almost died just turned around and started walking just as calmly back the way he came from. I stand by my statement just like he stood by that explosion.
The ministry of defence is denying everything. Yeah right.
Holy fuck, man so many heads are gonna roll Rocket barrages are fucking scary, imagine being a taliban getting pounded by apache rockets.
When you're standing that close to an explosion the db doesn't matter, you're dealing with the air pressure.
This. Shrapnel aside, the air pressure alone is enough to kill you. It will severely injure hollow organs like your heart, your intestines, stomach, lungs, etc. Embolisms are common. I have no idea if this guy survived or not (because I guess it's possible that he could just be that one lucky exception), but it wouldn't be a surprise to find out that he died. That's a big explosion to be so close to.
different angle camera from ground https://twitter.com/why_color/status/910127658033393664
The ministry of defence is denying everything. Yeah right.
There is some doubt to claims, because journalists on training exercises are kept way further from machinery, and they're guarded. And all the footage (including technical helicopter) got in the internet after an hour after it happened, which is almost impossible in army training territories.

https://www.facebook.com/notes/conflict-intelligence-team/855375221282123/ Also use Google Translate RUS to ENG. It's a good translation. I can vouch for that.
The guy filming hits the dirt and the guy who almost died just turned around and started walking just as calmly back the way he came from. It might look like he's walking away like a ~~badass~~ but the guys probably in shock.
More news of training accidents than usual, just recently some danish fellow died in the northern coast exercise.
different angle camera from ground https://twitter.com/why_color/status/910127658033393664
Welp I guess "that guy" is probably not the only one that won't be walking away from that.

Why the hell you'd fly so low and shoot directly over PEOPLE during live fire training is beyond me
Oh man I missed that. RIP that guy's hearing. I imagine with that db level eventually he would have at least some hearing return. Honestly floored if that guy walked away in one piece.
Not terribly surprising really. The most dangerous thing is there is the shrapnel, which looks like it missed him with some distance to spare. If any of that debris that went shooting through the air (including stuff too small to see on that camera) had hit him he would've been torn to shreds though.
I mean, it's not really a case of balls when its something that happens by accident.
I'm not sure about you, but if someone shot a rocket directly next to me; I might just die of a heart attack.
