Becker missed Steely Dan's Classic East and West concerts in July as he recovered from an unspecified ailment. "Walter's recovering from a procedure and hopefully he'll be fine very soon," Fagen told Billboard at the time. Becker's doctor advised the guitarist not to leave his Maui home for the performances.
source
How sad - Steely Dan has put out some incredible music:
All of their songs are really fun to play. I was literally writing out The Fez yesterday, the only song on that album that he has a credited guitar solo on, was kind of spooky when I heard. I think they were all-around great songwriters and not just guys who liked writing fancy jazz-rock stuff (even though those are my favorite) Like Kings is just a solid fuckin tune that I hope most people would like. My cousins just saw Don Fagen touring at one of the casinos nea where I live and I was wondering why Becker wasn't with him. Had no idea he was ill.
fucking shit man... i have tickets to see Steely Dan next month :-( this is atrocious. great band, a true staple of american music yet they didn't get the full respect they deserve tbh. glo ally they top fleetwood mac in my opinion.
That's rough to hear, Steely Dan has always been one of my top favorite bands. Their music is just so incredible to listen to. I can pretty much just chill out and listen to them any time for hours on end.
i think donald fagen will still continue the steely dan name. he says he will still tour, but it's sad to see only him listed as member of the band :-(
very sad rip
