The Chancellor said a criminal investigation would examine whether building regulations had been violated when the block underwent an extensive renovation that was concluded last year. He insisted the Government had acted on safety recommendations after an earlier fire in London in 2009, but it would wait for the public inquiry's findings before making any changes in regulation. The Chancellor's comments came as the political fallout from Britain's most deadly peacetime disaster showed no sign of letting up.
That external cladding isn't as fire retardant as some claim. And one of the components of that cladding decomposes under high heat (>200°C) releasing hydrogen cyanide gas both toxic and flammable. And if this shit is banned then why the hell did whatever contractor thought it was a good idea to use in the first place.
And if this shit is banned then why the hell did whatever contractor thought it was a good idea to use in the first place.
Most likely because they could get it cheaper than what they were supposed to use.
Most likely because they could get it cheaper than what they were supposed to use.
But even then who'd they source it from?
But even then who'd they source it from?
Old factory stock for pennies on the pound?
But even then who'd they source it from?
Generic Chinese Manufacturing establishment with passable looking forged certifications? You likely could not build that many panels in quantity domestically without attracting attention. My bet is that the contractor was unaware that the material being sold to them was not the product they requested. I really cannot fathom that they knew it was both banned and hazardous because holy fuck that's pretty fucking brazen and many levels beyond criminal.
But even then who'd they source it from?
Anywhere in the EU with no checks whatsoever.
