Sleek, very nice. I like it.
this is not for EVA btw
Not bad at all.
lol @ the comment about the Berkeley riots [editline]23rd August 2017[/editline] Wonder how much one of these costs??
Not quite sure what the function is, it seems it's for use in the craft only, I wonder if the mars craft will depressurize at any point in it's travel and these suits are needed, or perhaps they are for use on the martian surface primarily? Can't be used for space walks.

Not suitable for full blown EVA, but its better than your jumpsuit.
Ehh, I prefer Boeing's suit. [T]https://www.nasa.gov/sites/default/files/styles/full_width/public/thumbnails/image/tigergrass-graphic.jpg?itok=D9gukuKs[/T] The helmet is the only real difference between the suits, and the SpaceX one makes me think of Opa-Opa. Then again, I do have a fetish for globe-like visors.

I understand he's trying to sell the company to investors but the R&D cost of making it aesthetically pleasing didn't do that great considering the moon suits from the 60s still look better.
The suit is allegedly designed by Jose Fernandez, superhero suit designer. This isn't an EVA suit.

Those spacex suits are only to be worn during launch and (re)entry to prevent the crew from death in case of cabin pressure loss. See Soyuz 11 for why that is important: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soyuz_11
The new suit looks good and I can only assume that they function as well as they look. I can't wait for Musk to reveal the EVA suit, hopefully it is not too far away

"double vacuum pressure" what...
"double vacuum pressure" what...
Well, there's twice as much vacuum inside, duh...

Looking schmick!
"double vacuum pressure" what...
Im guessing he means double the internal operating pressure in a vacuum, because space suits are pressurized.
Out of curiosity, have we ever had an event during the time frame where these suits are worn where cabin pressure failed and it didn't ultimately end in flames and debris? Not being critical. Even if we haven't had that, having light weight pressure suits that can probably be put on much more quickly (possibly even alone) makes sense for any sort of space travel. Cabin pressure failing without the main craft failing in orbit is entirely feasible. I'm mostly curious if it has ever made a difference for ascent/descent. Usually one thing going wrong at that point has a nasty tendency to cascade.
Elon gets it. He knows that if you want to increase public interest in something, it has to be sleek and shiny and make people feel like they're "in the future".

Interestingly enough, this suit isn't new. There's an unofficial picture of it going back at least a year ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/spacex/comments/4cg518/spacexs_space_suit/ And you can even see it in this video from 2015: https://youtu.be/a1EB5BQpm7w
I still don't buy it, looked dumb a year ago, still looks dumb as purely an emergency option for space tourism, sure thing. people will want to look cool and have something that's easy to put on but I bet when in a vacuum it balloons into a horrible monstrosity that's impossible to move or work in. there's a reason spacesuits look how they usually do [editline]24th August 2017[/editline] I'd love to be proved wrong though once the details come out
cool, but not as cool as this

Everyone called it fake, and that it would never look anything like that.
