The Su-25 was destroyed over the rebel-held northwestern province of Idlib as it provided air support to pro-Assad regime forces attacking the city of Saraqeb. Video footage showed the Russian jet manoeuvring over Idlib and then a parachute emerging after it was hit. “The pilot had enough time to announce he had ejected into the zone, under the control of al-Nusra Front fighters," the Russian defence ministry said, referring to a jihadist group linked to al-Qaeda. "The pilot was killed in fighting against terrorists."
Other sources say the pilot got captured
The rebels have been known to use such weapons, known as man-portable air-defense systems (MANPADS) in the past, but it is not clear who would have supplied them.
i cant imagine what it would be like sitting in a parachute slowly going down into enemy territory by yourself in broad daylight.
Other sources say the pilot got captured
Captured and then killed. They've posted pictures of the pilot's body.
well they got some from Syrian AA forces (captured quite some depots) also it's been discussed that Syrian/Iraq civil war actually saw usage of several types of AA launchers believed they already unusable (e.g. battery wise) like http://armamentresearch.com/improvised-manpads-batteries-employed-in-syria/ so low altitude plane or copter can be prey of those then in past several 'rebel' groups gained little bigger toys (vehicle with radar and some rockets) they were used in past to take down some of the SAAF planes
And on that day the learned the meaning behind, "Don't poke the bear" nice knowing you Jihadis. Russia is gonna be out for blood real soon here.
In tomorrow's news: "Entire Syrian city disappears overnight; only glassed earth remains"
And it's already happening, Russia is fucking pissed.
How many are those civilian deaths?
For now unknown, even though some pro-ISIS channels told that there were 30 civs dead, without any proof.
Several camera angels in the video in Funkers article https://www.funker530.com/russian-air-force-su-25/
How many are those civilian deaths?
Check out Julian Ropcke on twitter. He usually has good info on civilian casualties after a notable attack. "Russia supplying the YPG with ATGM to destroy Turkish tanks? Turkey supplying the FSA with MANPADS to destroy Russian jets? #Astana in a nutshell."
In all honesty is was probably Turkey rather than the US
How many are those civilian deaths?
Unfortunately for the civvies the russians have a habit of ignoring the collateral side of the equation.

Just a late question but what's with them saying "Allahu Achbar" whenever some lethal shit goes down? Are they praying that whoever's injured or killed in those situations, let Allah take care of them?
Kinda surprised they even use the SU-25's still, those things don't exactly have the best defensive capabilities. Like if it was someone flying them on behalf of Russia i'd understand but the Russian air-force itself?

-snip, cannot guarantee accuracy-
It's a catch all exclamation, it can mean shock, dismay etc. In this case one of celebration.
Either that or they're praying for strength and/or good fortune. For muslim fighters in general, that is.

The problem is not with the plane itself(which is equipped with a pretty good counter measure system by the way), it sounds more like a military intelligence failure to me. They should have known the rebels got their hands on manpads.
It's a catch all exclamation, it can mean shock, dismay etc. In this case one of celebration.
Just to add - Actually translated it means "God is great!" but in terms of usage it's often used in a similar vein as "Oh My God!" - multiple uses include shock and terror or satisfaction.

I just did it.
Admittedly there tends to be more said in many situations than a constant stream of nothing but 'FUCK' for a minutes at a time.
You can see multiple instances of people using "oh my god" over and over again to convey a multitude of different emotions.
You can see multiple instances of people using "oh my god" over and over again to convey a multitude of different emotions.
Actually, I haven't seen this. You might here an "Oh my god!" followed by a "What happened?" or screaming or something, but never do you hear it from multiple different people repeatedly for minutes.
