Swastikas and far-right images were displayed on the Queen Street screen on Tuesday night after a hacker gained control and selected what was shown. Writing in an anonymous online post, the hacker claimed there was a security vulnerability with the screens.
le pepe xd
Just how many of these dumbass screens all over the world have been hacked so far? :suicide:
I guarantee you it was left with factory default settings
I guarantee you it was left with factory default settings
I once left a raspberri pi in charge of streaming media to a quarter mile long video screen in Las Vegas(Fremont Street Experience/VivaVision) on default settings. You haven't lived until you've been rickrolled in 360p stretched to 7552x552 over a quarter of a mile with a 200,000 watt sound system.

Honestly seems like a pretty neat way to get your message out if you are an activist of some sort. Shame these guys decided to display mostly racism and epic memes instead.

Many fun pranks involving SSHing into random Pis. You're not alone! (not an externally accessible network though)
I guarantee you it was left with factory default settings
The adverts were being set-up using a teamviewer remote desktop program, which normally displays a username and password which you tell your IT support guy via telecom, only difference this screen was also plugged into Cardiff city center and someone took a pic before the adverts went full screen. I laughed at the 'sharia zone - no alcohol, gambling or porn' one they put up

This is the key to turning every single city in the world into Akihabara.
no fucking way, surely there is some record of this event
It was during testing time at 5am, right before dawn. Nobody was around, which is why we were testing. I actually cobbled together the raspi setup in the 4 hours prior to that, to interface to the Pandora's Box servers and run a simple frontend for management purposes and pointing the servers at the right content from external sources. It was on an internal network with minimal outside access, and the rickroller was one of my coworkers. After the prank, I changed the passwords, of course. That system is long gone, this was about 3 years ago. I forgot to mention that as well as the video, the rickroll was also played over the 200,000 watt sound system as well. Quite the experience.
[...] it was switched off at midnight.
That's quite late. I normally wouldn't expect something like this to stay up for more than an hour or two.
Can we just talk about how the they appear to be using Windows 2k?
The guy who did it was posting on /pol/ about it. /pol/ supplied a lot of recommendations for what to put up. Probably still in the archive somewhere.
