The new graphics card will feature slightly lower VRAM and a cut down memory bus while retaining the same number of cores as the 6 GB variant. According to reports from Chinese sources, NVIDIA is making a new GeForce GTX 1060 variant that will be aimed directly at the APAC region based Internet cafes. This model is meant to cut down the costs for such market while retaining similar graphics performance. But will that be the case? While it does retain the same core specifications, the GP106-350-K3-A1 graphics core comes with one memory controller disabled, leading to a 160-bit bus interface instead of the 192-bit bus that comes on the other variants. So we are looking at 5 GB GDDR5 VRAM, running across a 160-bit bus interface at speeds of 8.00 Gbps. This gives us a total bandwidth of 160 Gb/s which is lower than 192 GB/s bandwidth on the other variants. The thing is that this model will be exclusively sold to internet cafes based in the Asia Pacific market directly. This means that we will never get to see an official reference or custom model lineup from either NVIDIA or their manufacturers. It will be an interesting and cost effective solution for cafes that cannot purchase 6 GB 1060s in bulk. The 5 GB model will definitely be capable of 60 FPS 1080p gaming in majority of eSports titles but I guess it was a good decision to keep this model exclusive to cafes and not make it a wider launch as that would have messed up the GTX 1060 lineup even more.
So now there are FIVE 1060 configs going around: -1060 3 GB (GP104) -1060 3 GB (GP106) -1060 6 GB (Original) -1060 6 GB (9 GBps) -1060 5 GB
Nvidia just doesn't give a shit anymore

It'd be understandable if they're getting 85% of the performance (for the 5gb vs 6gb) for maybe 80% of the cost. This sounds like nVidia is gonna sell several thousand cards for a pretty small change. And in all likelihood they could be pawning off binned 6gb 1060's that didn't entirely make the cut.
Well, the 1060 was an emergency stopgap because AMD was about to royally spank NVIDIA's ass with the RX 480. They just removed some components from 1080/1070's and called it the 1060. So they probably have some leftovers that they are, once again, removing hardware from to sell at lower price points.
Memory is crazy expensive currently. Prices have more than doubled within a year.
did a factory explode somewhere again or is it more of a market-related reason?
did a factory explode somewhere again or is it more of a market-related reason?
I've heard that it's because factories are producing a lot more memories for phones than they are for computers.
did a factory explode somewhere again or is it more of a market-related reason?
-DDR4 rampup. -SSD's becoming more popular. -Phones requiring more and more memory. -Laptops with dedicated Solid state storage. -A massive memory factory in Taiwan flooded. -The biggest company's made price-deals with eachother.
I feel like i need this now.
Memory is crazy expensive currently. Prices have more than doubled within a year.
I've seen fucking ddr3 god damn quadrouple in the past year and a half. It's so bullshit.

there is a theory that samsung, hynix, and micron are in a non-compete agreement to keep ram prices high
And in all likelihood they could be pawning off binned 6gb 1060's that didn't entirely make the cut.
Probably what's happening.
Memory is crazy expensive currently. Prices have more than doubled within a year.
Look at this fucking memory kit I was wanting to get. It's ridiculous. [t]https://horobox.co.uk/u/XOm4Hm.png[/t] Seriously what the hell.
RAM might be a good investment, buy now, sell on eBay for less than MSRP but still make a profit later. :v:
That's not how money works
Buy it now for XX and sell it later for YY because the prices keep increasing. As long as you sell above what you paid and below what it's selling for at retailers, a profit was made.
I've seen fucking ddr3 god damn quadrouple in the past year and a half. It's so bullshit.
That can partially be attributed to ddr3 production ramping down in favor of ddr4. But at the same time they're using the perceived notion of ddr4 being new to keep the prices artificially high.
Between ram prices explosion and cryptocurrency hoarders murdering the video card markets this year, the computer parts market is a real a mess lately. Makes the availability of tech feel way more fragile.
I was going through my old newegg order history and in 2011 i bought 8gb of ddr3 1600 (2 4gb sticks) for $47
I was going through my old newegg order history and in 2011 i bought 8gb of ddr3 1600 (2 4gb sticks) for $47
Around this time two years ago I got 8GB of DDR3-1866 (2 x 4GB) for a whopping $30.77
Paid ~$200 for my 2x8gb DDR4. I was not even aware that memory prices had raised, but I'm casual scum.
Paid ~$200 for my 2x8gb DDR4. I was not even aware that memory prices had raised, but I'm casual scum.
I got 4x8GB for ~$180
~$85 for 2x8GB Now ~$210.
Because RAM is made by a total of like 3 manufacturers and they all have been artificially inflating the price and blaming it on a "surge" of supply needs from mobile manufacturers
No wonder ram is so fucking expensive now, so much for upgrading..
Nvidia just doesn't give a shit anymore
Given AMD's performance over the last five years, they don't have to. [editline]1st January 2018[/editline]
Probably what's happening.
This is exactly what they're doing.
Look at this fucking memory kit I was wanting to get. It's ridiculous. [t]https://horobox.co.uk/u/XOm4Hm.png[/t] Seriously what the hell.
ram is the new bitcoin invest while you still can
Speaking of ram, back in July I bought a 16gb of ddr4 ram and received two 16gb kits of the same type I ordered. Oh and it cost like $100 at the time :v:
