It is part of the x files franchise, created by Chris Carter. The program originally aired from September 10, 1993 to May 19, 2002, spanning nine seasons and 202 episodes. The series recounted the exploits of FBI Special Agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) who investigate X-Files: marginalized, unsolved cases involving paranormal phenomena. Mulder believes in the existence of aliens and the paranormal while Scully, a skeptic, is assigned to make scientific analyses of Mulder's discoveries that debunk Mulder's work and thus return him to mainstream cases
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_X-Files
The story follows agents Mulder and Scully, removed from their usual jobs on the X Files, and investigating the bombing of a building and the destruction of criminal evidence. They uncover what appears to be a government conspiracy attempting to hide the truth about an alien colonization of earth. Viewed in the context ofThe X files chronology, the film's story takes place between seasons five (ep "The End") and six (ep "The Beginning") of the television series, and is based upon the series' extraterrestrial mythology. The story follows Mulder and Scully who have been out of the FBI for several years; with Mulder living in isolation as a fugitive from the organization and Scully having become a doctor at a Catholic-run hospital, where she has formed a friendly relationship with a seriously ill patient. But when an FBI agent is mysteriously kidnapped, and a former priest who has been convicted of being a child molester claims to be experiencing psychic visions of the endangered agent, Mulder and Scully reluctantly accept the FBI's request for their particular paranormal expertise on the case.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_X-Files:_I_Want_to_Believe
Love this show. I grew up on this, and it fueled many nightmares. It wasn't mentioned in the OP, but the entire series is up on Netflix (at least in the States), so if anybody hasn't seen it, you definitely need to check it out there.
i've been meaning to catch up with this show i have only seen a bunch of episodes and fight the future. someday i'll sit down and watch the entire series. also, there's a comic book run entitled "season 10", does anyone know if it's good or not?
I actually just started officially watching this show from the beginning a couple months ago. Almost done with season 2, it's a hard watch honestly... seeing as I've watched just about every single show that was inspired by it. But, it's worth it just because of the chemistry and banter between the leads.
I also just love seeing the shows extras and cast they have for each episode. So many people from stargate, and other tv shows plus movies that were popular in the early 00's.
I hated how all of a sudden the ending turned all super-religious
I think the x-files/Cops episode would have to be one if not my favorite episode.
Well then....
oh god, i need to whip out the boxset again
Some's gotta compile a list of must-watch episodes-- not just the mythology ones, but the really good monster of the week ones. I'm on S4 now and it'd help a little.

Watched the whole show on hulu a year or two ago and was entertained the whole way through, and watched the first film as I own the dvd. I'm really excited for the new season, and I just need to get around to watching the second movie to be fully caught up. Edit: As for favorite episodes, some of mine have to be X-Cops, Bad Blood, Jose Chung's From Outer Space, Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose, Monday, Dreamland, and Hollywood A.D.
so if i watch one episode a day from now until 1/24/16 i'll be all caught up eh? time to marathon this shit.
I'm at season 5 now, I love the X-Files, I hope I can finish the rest before the event series. It's too good man.
oh man, now I gotta marathon this show again. thank fuck hulu has all the episodes so I can watch 'em all. I agree with the above user though, someone should compile a list of must-watch episodes
I watched the first three seasons not too long ago, and by the third season Scully still doesn't believe Mulder most of the time. You would think after seeing some shit you would believe.= She gets abducted at one point and gets put through an alien pregnancy. How the fuck do you not question an unexplained pregnancy?
I was even more pissed during that episode where Scully says she believes in miracles. You believe in miracles but you don't believe in aliens???

I love Skinner's transition over the course of the series. I mean I love Skinner in general for just being fucking badass, but his character transition really rubs me right.
Saw s5 ep...5? It's the one with the great Mutato. Absolutely loved it
Postal just added an X-Files emoticon I made to the FP list of emoticons. :xfiles:
Hey my thread is alive. Should probably update the OP then.
Awww shit, I'm so hyped that its coming back. Besides aforementioned MoTWs (with some mythology episodes IMO): Squeeze/Tooms, Sleepless, Irresistible, Ice, Eve, Piper Maru, Musings of a Cigarette Smoking Man, Død Kalm, Leonard Betts, Unusual Suspects to name a few.
I really wanna watch this but I can't find it on Netflix Boo
I really wanna watch this but I can't find it on Netflix Boo
Its available on Netflix US, region locking is a bitch.

already got season 1 nearly done and man I'm so fuckin' hooked on this show again. forgot how easy it was to get hooked to it
Nearing the end of Season 5, might have to find myself the X-Files movie now. Also goddamn these goofy episodes that happen every now and then really butter my biscuit.
I fucking love the X files, but I gave up on season 9. Am I a bad person? I want to rewatch the show now, the earlier episodes were great. I liked the monster of the weeks more than the overarching plot. Like at first it was nice, gov conspiracy, deep throat, etc. But then you get bullshit like [sp]the smoking man is unkillable[/sp] and stuff like that. Still, a very enjoyable show.
