Russo Brothers (Civil War, IT) Win Rights to Direct Film About Simon Stålenhag's The Electric State
Russo Brothers Studio has just won a heated bidding war for The Electric State, an illustrated novel from Simon Stålenhag. Andy Muschietti, who directed one of the year’s biggest hits with It, is negotiating to direct the film. He will produce with Barbara Muschietti. RBS principals Joe and Anthony Russo will produce with them, and their production head Mike Larocca will be executive producer. At least four studios made offers and numerous producers and directors chased it.
Writing the script will be Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely, the screenwriters who teamed with the Russos on the last two Captain America films and the two sequels to The Avengers that the Russo Brothers are directing. Russell Ackerman and John Schoenfelder are attaching to produce as well.
Novel is a re-imagined low tech apocalyptic mid 90s vision of the American West, with stunning visual artwork. The narrative artbook was produced through a Kickstarter campaign, a link worth watching because it conveys the visual scope with compelling images. Simon Stålenhag is the internationally acclaimed author, concept designer and artist behind Tales from the Loop and Things from the Flood. His images depict hyper-realistic Scandinavian landscapes and he tapped that style to convey America in The Electric State.
Check out his artwork here, if you don't already know about his incredible artwork.

YES! And after that we go to Sweden and the Loop.
How were the Russos involved with IT?
Edit: Misread. Russo brothers purchased the rights, but want Muschietti to direct.
When I heard Simon Stålenhag's name I had to make it was who I thought it was.
Hell yeah, it's such a creative universe, I hope they adapt it well.

The DoP is going to make or break this film.

Lots of lore as well, I just hope it'll turn out as good as possible
I dunno man, I don't worry so much about the DoP. These paintings more or less spell out exactly the tone and shot composition the artist prefers and would like to see.

The point is a DoP would be the one to actually translate these images to the silver screen. If the DoP is shit, he'll disregard the source material and just do something else. Hopefully that doesn't happen, but you never know.

I would hope that any DoP who's offered this job knows when to take good concept art and source materials as the bible that it really is.
I doubt this would happen, but I would cry tears of cinematic joy if Roger Deakins was the DoP on this.
About time. Guy really knows how to tell a story with imagery
This is a rarity, his art is phenomenal and eerily intriguing already. Sometimes it gives me a Wasteland 1/2 vibe (albeit less southwestern).
I'm so happy for him, he's an amazing artist and he deserve all the credit
I am so absolutely ludicrously excited for this. Simon Stålenhag is my absolute favorite artist and I love the world he as build in his books so far. I also loved IT and the direction of that and really think they'll do Simon's story justice.
I absolutely adore Stalenhag's work and seriously hope for the best
Simon's work always gave off a combination of Half-Life and INSIDE vibes for me, it's truly wonderful.
oh cool, i've seen his art around the place before, didn't realise it was all from the one artist.
his artwork bleeds atmosphere and always tells a bigger story than what you see. if they are going to make a film, they better fucking nail the colour correction and post processing.
