The parents of Zachary Bowlin posted a picture of the intended suspension notice which read, “The reason for the intended suspension is as follows: Liking a post on social media that indicated potential school violence.” "I was livid, I mean, I’m sitting here thinking ‘you just suspended him for ten days for liking a picture of a gun on a social media site," father Marty Bowlin said. "He never shared, he never commented, he never made a threatening post… anything on the site, just liked it." The picture in question is of an airsoft gun, and according to the students’ parents, their child didn’t comment on the post but simply liked the picture. "I liked it, scrolling down Instagram at night about 7, 8 o’clock I liked it," Zacahry said. "The next morning they called me down [to the office] patted me down and checked me for weapons." Since receiving the notice, the family said the school has dropped the suspension and there will be no repercussions for the child’s actions. Friday morning an email went out to parents stating: “Yesterday evening school officials were made aware to an alleged threat of a student bringing a gun to school. We act on any potential threat to student safety swiftly and with the utmost importance. This morning, the alleged threat was addressed and we can assure you that all students at Edgewood Middle School are safe and school will continue as normal. Thank you”
http://www.fox19.com/story/35355907/middle-school-student-suspended-for-liking-photo-of-gun-on-instagram http://www.wlwt.com/article/instagram-gun-photo-like-sparks-alarm-suspensions-at-butler-county-school/9612240 http://kron4.com/2017/05/06/ohio-7th-grader-suspended-after-liking-gun-photo-on-instagram/
You've got to actually be fucking metaphorically, god-damming, bitch-tingly shitting me.
Were they stalking his instagram to figure out that he liked the picture?
How would the school even find out the kid liked the picture? You'd have to be stalking his account activity
Were they stalking his instagram to figure out that he liked the picture?
If you friend the school on anything nowadays (not always specifically staff, either), they pretty much use it as an excuse to stalk anything you do on Facebook, Instagram or otherwise. Just to "watch out" for the problem children and those who are stupid enough to accept the friend request and then text openly on Facebook during class time. And even if you don't, they try to keep an eye on you most of the time anyway.
Zero tolerance policy, the cancer of the public education system.
i'm pretty sure a fp user got suspended or detention for talking about a rifle he was gonna buy with one of his friends fuck stupid people for focusing on bullshit like this instead of teaching kids how to properly handle and respect firearms
What the fuck they gave him a 2 week suspension for that. I've seen some really fucked up fights end up being at most, a week long
Schools these days are just 👌, like it wasn't even a picture of a real gun wtf.
Schools these days are just 👌, like it wasn't even a picture of a real gun wtf.
You are now suspended for posting the white power hand sign emote
America has an amendment dedicated to the right to have guns, but if you're a student you better pretend they don't exist at all cause that's gonna get you suspended
Were they stalking his instagram to figure out that he liked the picture?
Instagram has an activity feed where you can either check the people you follow's activity or your own accounts' activity (likes, comments, etc) someone, a student or staff must have checked that, saw that he liked multiple pictures including a gun and just straight up said "yeah he liked a picture of a gun, reporting this" american schools went from suspending a kid who made a gun shaped poptart to almost suspending a kid who liked a picture of a gun that might be two states away from them
That must have been a huge flabbergast for the kid. "you're suspended " “why?" "you liked a photo of a gun on instagram" What good does that even serve you anyway? Hey, we'll suspend you if you start digging guns, so don't do it! Whats funny is that the school muat be going through the activity log with a fine tooth comb, to find this out.
We either need to amend our laws about guns (which is very unlikely), or accept that kids have to be allowed to know what a gun is without being punished
Imagine what would have happened if this was a pop-tart gun instead of a fake gun... :downs:
I don't get it. Is the school watching the kids activity online? I don't know about you but seems a bit creepy.
There should be a Zero Tolerance Policy for Zero Tolerance Policy schools.
Gotta love this nation of fear we're building around guns, reminds me of the post-9/11 terror scare.
Imagine what would have happened if this was a pop-tart gun instead of a fake gun... :downs:
No recess and no more library card.
This is why you shouldn't involve your school or job into your social media life, cause then dumb shit like this happens.
So glad im in my 20's, and got to escape the public "education" system before it became theis level of fascist. I recently talked to someone who still goes to my old highschool and they all have to wear their id badges at all times now. and god help you if you dont have it.
Back in my day some kid brought in an empty shotgun shell for show and tell freshmen year of highschool. No doubt he would have been suspended if he did that today.

Ohio isn't even an especially anti-gun state, what shit is this
About how it is anymore, if you don't play ball the man will come and put you away. Really have to watch everything you do in this country anymore. Just have to assume Big Brother can see anything you do online, same with employers, police, NSA. etc I don't think I've ever seen it this bad and it's getting worse. you really have to conform, or you can be punished severely.

Alabama sometimes is pretty cool.

If you don't have the money, then too bad you can't get in.

The fuck :v: Do you live in City 17 by chance? [editline]8th May 2017[/editline]
If you loose yours, you have to pay a fiver, where I am. Everybody at every school in my region did. Also see-through backpacks only.
