Various Japanese zoos have been collaborating with Kemono Friends and hosting special events. It’s been working, as social media has been showing an increase in zoo visits. The Tobu Zoo was hoping to bring otaku and children alike to their exhibits, but they accidentally turned one of their penguins into an otaku…
Each exhibit pairs a Kemono Friend character with their real life counterpart. Grape-kun, a 20-year old penguin, literally fell in love with Hululu, who is a Humboldt Penguin character.
Japanese visitors noted that Grape-kun would spend every minute staring at, sitting next to, or praising Hululu as if she was a breathing mate. He was even neglecting the rest of his flock just to be with Hululu. The penguin was dedicated!

Just 10 more years and he'll get magical powers.
I guess we gotta put this one to sleep before he spreads it.
The last word of both title and article technically doesn't make sense because that 'waifu' is looking to paper-thin.
But overall, I think every animal can make easily converting to Otaku religion.
Does Kemono Friends have a walrus?
What a fucking loser
The zoo keepers are isolating him from Hululu for his health. It turns out, Grape-kun wasn’t eating his food because he was too busy chilling with Hululu.
This is something we all can identify with.

y'know, maybe the world isn't such a bad place after all

Well now I'm morally obligated to check this out. Good job Japan.
It baffles me that Kemono Friends has gotten as popular as it is. The waifu potential isn't even that high.
let the penguin have his waifu
normally anime related news gives me nausea but this is adorable on multiple levels
This is animal cruelty.
This is animal cruelty.
So is getting penguins stoned.
let the penguin have his waifu
But his waifu is ruining his laifu.

It's amazing how much animals can reflect on humans
Very inspiring news. Could it be that we were arrogant and wrong when we thought the cuteness of anime girls was something beyond the capability of animals to appreciate? Could it be that the appreciation of anime cuties is more universal than we realize? Does it apply to bacteria? it would explain why pillows and other merchandise so quickly get the smell.
I guess we gotta put this one to sleep before he spreads it.
It would be a mercy killing, really.

As I've posted in a previous thread:
So you have a maximum of 72 calories a day? Not the kind of diet I would expect from a weeaboo.
EDIT:
Maybe it's because money is spent on cleaning body pillow cases instead of food.
now this is why i love japan
You know people have always said zoos are cruel and shit, but I always kind of shrugged it off as "the animals don't know better" and shit like that, but this, this is one step too far. They have seriously crossed the line here and Japan deserves international sanctions until this problem is fixed.
This is the most important news i've ever read, this is precious.

How does an entire show circled around animal girls not have high waifu potential?
Kantai Collection, for example, is a series entirely based around ship girls. But it's waifu status is off the charts.

It's got like a million characters, that makes it extremely easy to pick a waifu.
It actually wasn't popular at all originally. In fact, the anime was a poorly animated tie-in to a mobile game that had already shut down by the time it aired, and it seemed to only exist due to some sort of pre-existing arrangement. It picked up popularity three or four episodes in when the show turned out to surprisingly not suck.

Separated from 2D waifus by insurmountable forces, just like us.
Yep, little penguin, that's life.
Keeping him away from her but still in sight of her just seems cruel.
They aren't keeping Grape away from his waifu. They just put him behind that net after closing time because he's old and they don't want him to drown. The rumors about him not eating and stuff aren't true.

As far as I can tell, Kemono Friends is more about cute animal girls doing cute things. KanColle plays up and revels in the waifu-ism of its characters while Kemono Friends is more like 'look at this cute serval cat and this young human girl get into funny, cute hijinx with this animal girl of the day'.

It's an incredibly charming show with a lot of thought put into it considering how little of a budget they were working with. I think they had a total crew of 10 people working on this for its production.
