A baby dolphin has died after it was surrounded by tourists looking to take photographs on a beach in southern Spain. It had lost its mother and become stranded in shallow waters off the coast of Mojacar in Andalucia.
Tourists then began touching and photographing the animal rather than seeking help for it.
Equinac, a local NGO, said "selfishness" caused the dolphin "suffering and stress."
The organisation, which works to protect marine wildlife in the area, wrote in a Facebook post (in Spanish): "The animal was subjected to the curious who wanted to photograph and touch it."

Sigh
Well, seems that dumb tourists aren't an exclusive of china (at least by looking at the first image).
Regardless I wouldn't be surprised if soon enough they start to plant signs that tell not to touch animals or outright ban tourism from hitting the beach given the recent uproar in Spain.
Charge them on basis of their own dipshit facebook/instagram posts as evidence of animal cruelty imho. It doesn't take a degree in marine biology to know that if you pull a water mammal out of water you're hurting it.

It doesn't say anywhere in the article that they took it out of the water, the image of it being held is an animal rescue worker.
Everyone's calling them dumb - they probably didn't know.. Not everyone can possibly know that a dolphin at that age is not independent
Yes, they probably should have left it alone, but our best hope to prevent this kind of thing in the future is more education/awareness
how exactly did it die? the article isn't exactly overflowing with information.
Sounds like it could have even just been from the stress of being beached as well as having a bunch of people petting and crowding it. Wouldn't be the first time stress has killed a wild animal.

Quite possible. I don't think the dolphin pup would have been okay with the sensation of being touched. Chances are to a wild animal in the ocean if something that isn't your mother is touching you, it's probably going to eat you.

Heartstroke or something if I remember correctly, it got separated from his mother, and all the fuss from the tourists did not help.

The mother probably didn't want it back because people touched it. Everybody should know that you shouldn't touch a baby dolphin who fell off the nest.
